Since it's baby tegu season we thought we'd share with you some of the basics of setting up your new found pet. You can check out MacGyver Lizard at / todeyius
+Barnaby Lovemum hmm. well um actually sir um one does not um lick a toad um because the skin is toxic so um yeah you um get them to um spray their venom and um dry it and um smoke it and um yeah.
When I buy a house with my fiancé, we are dedicating a back room to our future scaly child❤️. The idea is to have a doggy door leading outside, and whenever the tegu wants to come inside, he can just walk into his tank. I will give him/her the world. They will have their own dog bed and a soft blanket with its name on it. But I want one when the time is right and they can live comfortably as they deserve
I've been looking to buy a Tegu for the first time and have no idea what I'm doing and your videos have helped me out so much and taught me a lot. Thanks for all the advice and education!!!
Thanks for the vid! Doin' everything right. The Chacoan I got from you guys last week is doing awesome!!! Eating like a BEAST, too! I'm startin' up a growth diary for him, it's amazing how much bigger he's gotten in only one week.
good vid, straight down and to the point! I realy like how u mentioned how where you live alters the needs on how to properly take care of your gu....some people dont realize that it's a major factor. since i live in new england, i have extra heat bulbs put away for our cold winters. great job and looking forward to the next vid! keep em coming!
I'm 13 I love reptiles and amphibians I just moved to Florida and I just got my first Columbia tegu 4 months old and this video really helped me out thank you
Leopard Geckos, Bearded Dragons (they get a about the size of your hand not counting tail), Box turtles, Russian Tortoise, Ball Python, Corn Snake, Crested Geckos, Crocodile Skins and Blue Tongue Skinks are all good choices for a beginner. I recommend to you the most a Leopard Gecko because, in my opinion, you can't go wrong with a first time reptile like a Leopard Gecko. If you want something a bit bigger, shoot for a Blue Tongue or a Bearded Dragon. Bearded Dragons are very good animals.
I really enjoyed watching this video. I've been wanting to get a tegu and I've watched countless videos of people (mostly teenagers) attempting to explain care, food, bonding etc... I'm super excited I found this video (by someone who seems to know what their talking about) it was very helpful to my research in owning a tegu TV show: Sanford & Sonya :)
Live in Ohio. I just purchased a 3 1/2 month old blue tegu. He is being kept in a 48×24×20 glass enclosure. I have a nice deep humid hide which is under his basking spot. For substrate I am using a mixture of repti soil by zoomed, repti bark and sphagnum peat moss. Keeps the humidity level right around 65%-80% constantly. Ofcourse he has is cool side hide made of 2 bricks with a 12×12 home depot tile.
Dude I completely agree with him. The requirements of my tegu changed when I moved throughout the states. Washington I did not have to work hard to keep her humidity up vs California and Texas. Texas is the worst of them all because I have to do so much work to keep up the humidity.
When ever the tegu is full grown and In a big indoor enclosure does the enclosure still need to have deep substrate or do they stop burrowing when they are adults
(Questions are at the end, but I had to share this!) That is how I set up my enclosure for my Iguana except way bigger! It was way more tall than flat though, (my iguana was almost 5 feet long) with a huge branch going up to the light. He had a water bowl, and a poop pool too, but we had to keep changing both all the time because he used both to poop in, lol. He would mostly bask at the top up on the branch but when he wanted out he would scratch on the door and I'd open it and he would jump on my shoulder and hang out, lickin my face, lol. Best pet lizard I ever had, except I'm really wanting a tegu now! I actually have been wanting to breed, but not on a big scale because I spoil every animal I have, and I couldn't do that on a big scale. So am I right in guessing that tegus have a large range in their clutch size from about 10- 45? That is what I've been hearing. Out of those though, what is the average percentage of eggs that actually hatch in your experience? And lastly, are they bred once a year, or every other year? (I only would breed ones I hand raised from babies, and know that takes years for them to mature, so that would give me some good experience with the species before even being able to jump into breeding.)
Do you put heating lamp directly on mesh? Having trouble with humidity on cool side going down to 55-60 / 60 - 70's when good ...hot side basking 95 no worries but 50 humidity.. what can I do ? Also is red heating bulbs bad for tegus eyes?
can you start the baby tegu out with the size enclosure you would when it's adult (meaning keep the baby tegu in the adult setup with enough substrate for the baby to burrow in a smaller section)
quick question for ya. I got a baby argentina tegu about a week ago and he stays buried in the substrate constantly. He doesn't come out of the substrate at all unless I dig him out. I have him in a 20 gallon tank with a heat bulb over one side of the tank with a uvb bulb over the center of the tank. I keep the humidity up around 65% and the hot spot is right around 95°. Am I doing anything wrong or should I just wait him out to see if he starts coming out by himself?
My tegu lizard is 3 months old I'm wondering if mine is hibernating it ate first couple days but now it stop eating and sleeps I'm wondering what they do and can you show me the difference
I notice you have a great love for tegus, what type tegu was your first and why are these lizards so special to you and your breeding projects, also is inbreed Ned smarter than a Tegu?
What type of wood would be safe to use for my baby tegus enclosure? I'm planning of building something something that will hold him for his whole life and I don't know what size to make it. Please help!!!
4:56 "and that's when the acid kicked in and I had no idea wtf was going on and why is this dude holding a lizard?"
Maybe he licked a toad. lol That was funny.
Where will you be...
+Barnaby Lovemum hmm. well um actually sir um one does not um lick a toad um because the skin is toxic so um yeah you um get them to um spray their venom and um dry it and um smoke it and um yeah.

Sanford and sons! One of the best shows! Great video by the way. Thanks:)
The equivalent of a 5 - 6 foot vision cage. Your cage type will also depend on if you are planning on keeping it inside or outside.
Thanks for the vid! Doin' everything right. The Chacoan I got from you guys last week is doing awesome!!! Eating like a BEAST, too! I'm startin' up a growth diary for him, it's amazing how much bigger he's gotten in only one week.

Hey, that song you did is from Sanford and Son. Redd Fox was awesome as Fred. My childhood was like Lamont's.
wish I would have found this video a while ago I researched for months before getting my little tegu and he summed it all up in one video
Do you put heating lamp directly on mesh? Having trouble with humidity on cool side going down to 55-60 / 60 - 70's when good ...hot side basking 95 no worries but 50 humidity.. what can I do ? Also is red heating bulbs bad for tegus eyes?
can you do more cage set ups for more of your reptiles like the crested geckos?
sanford n son!!!!

love ur channel guys!!

My tegu lizard is 3 months old I'm wondering if mine is hibernating it ate first couple days but now it stop eating and sleeps I'm wondering what they do and can you show me the difference

Im going to keep it inside and will be able to roam for quite a bit and what are the measurements for the height and depth
What size cage would you say to put them in when fully grown?

I notice you have a great love for tegus, what type tegu was your first and why are these lizards so special to you and your breeding projects, also is inbreed Ned smarter than a Tegu?
I live in northwest tennessee, is this kind of setup going to be okay for me?
Also is it alright to use a 100w powersun instead both those lights since a powersun can do basking and gives out UVB
the guy in the background is geeked out high as fuck ctfu
Sanford and sons was the tv show you sang at the end.
sanford and sons.. "You big dummy" lol that from the show not calling u dumb lol love the video guys very informative like always
Do u have to let your BaBy tegu hiBernate? How do u set up their enclosure for them if u want to Breed them in the future?
Can someone please tell me what the UVB light bulb is used for and how do i set it up? Do I use it plus the heat lamp?
Sanford and son is the tune
Nice
Will there be any tegu taking videos?
can you make an updated tegu setup please and care
The exact measurements Rian lays out at 2:20 in the video. He will be fine in that for a bit until he starts growing.
I have a sub tropical mediteranian climate . Would this work ( Where i live we always have high humidity and temperature)
How long will that tank last before they need an upgrade
Ok thank you ! :-)
Sanford & son!! Was the show.
Can u use moss
i like your reptiles
Would this be the same set up for a juvenile
Hey I have a question I have a tegu. They said it’s an Argentine tegu but I’m not sure if it’s a Columbia tegu how can I tell
What type of wood would be safe to use for my baby tegus enclosure? I'm planning of building something something that will hold him for his whole life and I don't know what size to make it. Please help!!!
Black Beard Dragons a 6x4x4 is big enough for full grown Tegus
Sanford and son was the tv show you were thinking about. Great video though!
