I was 18 when I watched this film. Besides the movie being memorable, this particular scene with the father and son stands out. It still hits me emotionally 34 years later.
I came here to say this. I nice bit of humanity and a real man to man moment. Pacino decided to not humiliate the man and traumatize his son. Was the right choice.
Same here. I just watched a video about the real police operation this was based on. 101 fugitives showed up thinking they had won tickets to the Super Bowl. One allegedly asked, as he was being led away, "Are we still going to the Super Bowl?"
The funny thing about that last scene where Pacino lets that man and his kid go - that actor who plays him is the same guy who Pacino cuts a break to in SERPICO (16 years earlier!). Man does time fly....
They say Criminals are done. Also, if threy watched TV, they would have seen what PHil Rizzuto looked like. The thing is I think Phil Broadcast local Yankee Games in the New York Area. I think anyone living outside the area who is not Familiar with New York and/or the Yankee Broadcasts wouldn't get the reference.
5 five years later, he'll star in a cinematic masterpiece that will guarantee that he'll never have to worry about his next acting job, probably until his passing into the other realm! ☻
@@siamfd202 It's a book on screenwriting, and it mentions this exact scene. It mentions Al Pacino's character because he is "saving the cat" here; i.e. he is demonstrating his character & doing something that makes us like him for the rest of the movie.
the delicious sequence 3:19 onward was presented to me by d4darious I think, while he talked about the Pet the Dog trope in screenwriting. it is a great moment indeed. I've never seen this movie.
Everybody knows of course that that's a young Samuel L Jackson in the scene, but what most people don't know is that the son in is played by a young Kevin Hart.
That is the beginning scene. It really is a mystery about a Serial Killer who kills Men who go on Blind DAtes in the Personals. Al Pacino's character gets invovled with Ellen Barkin and it seems likes she might be the Serial Killer. I won't say anything more. It was a really good Movie.
This was a trick played by police on people wanted for criminal investigations . They sent them letters saying they had won a prize and how to claim it. This tactic has worked for real over the years. Instead of the police having to devote days trying to reach people at their last known address.
It is a police set up to catch criminals with warrants under the guise of meeting players from their favorite sports team - they sent out invitations so the wanted would have a lure to show up where police can round them up in one place.

“Save the cat 🐱” scene 🙂
Except at the end
Dead on.
Im reading that book as we speak. Had to come and watch the scene
"Catch you later."
Unforgettable scene once you've watched it,the little slice of mercy shown.
30+ years later and the last part with the guy and his son is the scene I remember the most. Really decent of them to let him go.
This is one of my favorite scenes of all time. The way the guy says thanks man
The way he stepped back after seeing the badge sticks with me: I love the unspoken dialogue between the criminal and the police officer here.
@@rydermccall3590 Yes. Very well done. My favorite scene. It showed that the cop had a heart.
Grand theft auto 2 counts

They thought he was Phil Rizzuto, despite the fact that Rizzuto would have been in his 70s at the time.
