  • 200 Duke Top Speed! Shop Duke 200 Parts here: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/?r... or on Amazon here: amzn.to/3nuBQ1q This bike is so light and so fun! The top speed could be improved for freeway riding... but the fuel mileage is remarkable. I look at and ride this 200 Duke back to back with the 390 Duke... What do you think... is it enough?

I'm 41 years old and picked up a Duke 200 as my first bike. So far its been fun and I learned pretty quickly, I would say though that I should have started at the Duke 390. But for 1st bike purposes, this will do for now. I do see myself getting a 600CC bike in the future though. My MPG on this 2021 200 is about 84 in the city.

I've been riding motorcycles since I'm 18 years old, trust me that KTM Duke 200 is winner !
Light weight, power available anytime, quality build, I NEVER had that much fun with a bike before, even big heavy ones !
The motor is not linear (boring), you get plenty torque to enjoy riding !
I was planning to get a BMW (flat twin) but I changed my mind when I tried the Duke !

If you already have ridden dirt and have made it to b class and some racing then I'd start 390. If you have ridden since 3 years old, I'd start with a 600-700 cc bike.
And if a person never could bunny hop a bicycle an 1 in. off the ground or a skateboard off a curb at some point prior in their life, that person probably shouldn't be on a street bike of any kind. My EU spec 2016 KTM 200 with Bridgestone Road Tyres has a top speed of around 84mph. It will easily hold 70mph on British Roads fully loaded with me and camping gear in the saddle bag even against steep gradients. Over the last 2000 miles its averaged 84 ukmpg (just under 70 usmpg). Ive taken it on day trips of 200 miles with no problems at all. Range from full to the low fuel light coming on is around 160 miles. Good Fun.

No Way, You are Absolutely NOT TOO OLD to ride a motorcycle! I have a girlfriend that turned 70 years old and she ALWAYS wanted to ride but her husband was a wussy and wouldn't let her. Fast forward 40 years she is now a lesbian, had just beat cancer and was turning 70... and asked me to teach her to ride. She learned on my DRZ400, then bought her own cruiser, leather chaps, a vest, gloves, a matching helmet and she was OFF to the RACES! Game Changer for her... She was amazing. GO FOR IT! I would actually recommend the 390 Duke if you can afford it. I own one and I LOVE IT. The 200 has limitations, the 390 can go ANYWHERE. You won't grow out of it in a year.

Switch out that back sprocket with a 66 and bring up your top speed and lower the rotational mass and moment of inertia to help with acceleration. 20t up front and 60t rear and really save on that rotational mass reduction, including the chain shortening, to help even more with acceleration with the changes gear ratio. Don’t skimp on the sprocket materials though 🙃🙃🙃

    • @CharlieSolis
      @CharlieSolis 2 роки тому

Shoot those changed gears are for the 125 duke. But the concept still applies. Lower the gear ratio a bit and decrease rotational mass/moment of inertia of the drivetrain for higher speeds with a slightly lower acceleration loss then if just the front sprocket was increased for higher speeds.

@@manybikes I just did this to my 2022 Honda grom. I wanted to get the higher top speed that every one gets from just increasing the front sprocket. But because you have to grind away on the front sprocket cover to make it all fit for a change to a 17t/38t @2.2252 (from 15t/38t @2.533) I didn’t want to do that. So instead I changed the stock setup over to 14t/31t @2.2142 (which is actually a little bit higher top speed than the 17t upfront). But by getting rid of the 38t sprocket I reduced the rear sprocket mass by A LOT and I reduced it in the periphery where it’s most detrimental to have mass. So the power loss to giving rot. kinetic energy to just spinning up the drivetrain (and not seen on bike acceleration) was decreased. Not to mention I reduced 4 links on the chain itself which is further rotational mass reduction that. I haven’t dyno’d it yet but this one change alone has made it a a whole new bike. I honestly cannot tell or feel any kind of acceleration loss from the gear ratio reduction for higher speeds and if anything I’d swear it’s even better because cars in front of me at stops used to always slightly get away from me when we’d start accelerating before. But now, unless the car ahead of me is really racing I never lose them. And I pretty much take all compact cars on the start off without hammering the throttle too. And I baby the throttle on this bike for starts still.
But, with me at 210lbs, my top speed jumped from 62-63mph throttle pinned going downhill up to 70mph on flat highway with plenty of RPMs to go before red line and because acceleration seems to be better the bike can use a little bit more of its power to actually accelerate the bike up to that higher speed. My cruising speeds and down shift to throttle and speed up/pass someone are in a much better torque band of the engine’s RPMs now too. My 45-50mph before was like 5500-6500rpm 5th gear (almost the start of red lining) to now 4500-5000rpm. Also gives a much nicer, lower, hum to the muffler at the lower cruising rpm. And first gear feels like it goes for days now too, went from 13-15mph red line to 18-20mph red lined first gear and I’ve done literally no other mods other than add speakers to my handlebars.
And while, depending on your bikes tachometer sensor, if you don’t fix it it’ll end up making your bike read like it’s been driven less miles than it actually has. I’m waiting for my Speedo corrector to come in the mail but I used a gps speedometer and compared it to a street speed reader, with the new sprockets, when my dash says 35mph I’m actually going 40mph.

Ktm's motto Ready to Race means exactly that. KTM builds all of their bikes for the track. So once through the break-in. Feel free to beat it up on the limiter as it will be fine as long as you are adjusting your valves on the specified intervals.
And also during break-in, I wouldn't go by too much of what the book says because if you never hit the limiter during break-in you will never get the full RPMs after breaking because you're wearing it to a set point and it's not going to be worn correctly. The best procedure out there is one that Fortnine explains very well. This is exactly how we broke in all of our race bikes for the last forty years.

@@manybikes The KTM390 should do over 100 + . If it didn't I would never buy one . I have a collection of bikes . Most of them are from late 60's to early 70's . A 1973 Honda CB350 will do 115 MPH . I know I own some . The 1974- 77 CB360's had a bit more HP and carries a 6 speed trans and could top out at 118 MPH . That is back in the early 70's . What I meant is what the rider said 65 mph in a slight head wind setting up not tucked in . For a 200 cc engine it should be able to top out at 80 anyway with ease . Dont be a fool now OK .

I can easily hit 80mph and have hit 90mph. I can also get 90mpg if I keep it under 70mph

Not nice, in my country Philippines 80kph is a normal speed of any motor cycle, we can do converting up to 200kph top speed not like yours. In 200cc motorcycle.
