The only thing that will break Guilliman will be the hug from Vulkan upon his own return. God damn the avenging son chapter gave me chills
I mean he also broke Magnus’s spine, and he doesn’t even have one.
'Because nothing can stop the Avenging Son,' said Colquan, his eyes once more fixed on the planet below. 'I know for I have tried.'
cringe

"of all the Emperor's sons, Guilliman was the most human"
Vulcan: am I and my legion a joke to you?
LOL
Vulcan is too good for humanity, thats why!
Why is youtube deleting comments? Yikes. I said after I read that it was such a stick out bad line that you figured Matt Ward wrote it: typical Gulliman cock sucking. Vulcan was the spirit of humanity - Guilliman was the statesmen.
@@TKUltra971 Vulkan was TOO human. To an abnormal and noxious degree.
@@robertmartin8907 Hey man don't disrespect the Primarch of Hugs! ++EPIC HUGS++ ++DEPLOY++
That "ugh" after the Ultramarines surrendered to the Fate Weaver. XD
His reaction when they escaped and just found all their shit ready to go. Kek
See the thing is that could’ve been a really cool storyline. Because of course, if you can take Guilliman hostage you can force the surrender of the rest of the crusading forces, even if they are superior to yours. A lesser enemy holding Guilliman prisoner without really respecting who and what he really is could’ve made for an interesting scenario, as well as how they get out of the situation.
After the surrender, confescate the weapons (AND THE POWER ARMOR), order the ships to self destruct, and above all make sure Guilliman himself is not kept with everyone else. If his followers don’t know where he is, then his captor has the upper hand. Until they find him, at least.
This could’ve lead to some tense scenarios and thrilling escape attempts.
Instead it all ends up being frustrating and stupid. What a waste of a cool story idea
@@AnIdiotsLantern gw wasting good story ideas? That doesn't sound right...
@@rickconnolly5006 like, ok, let’s run with this.
A band of traitor astartes who are also pirates manage to, somehow, capture Guilliman. Instead of the Chains of Feels let’s say Bobby was part of a scouting party that gets ambushed and somehow they incapacitate him. Ok. Now they’ve got him. They tell his fleet and Allies that they’ve got him and if they want him to live, they have to surrender right now. So even though there are many many more soldiers and battle ships in the crusade then the pirate traitors, they can’t risk any harm coming to Guilliman. (Have a scene where the different Allies debate this tho - maybe grayfax wants to shoot the pirates out of the sky and then demand Guilliman’s return if they want to live, but the ultramarines won’t allow it)
So they surrender. The pirates now have all of this loot! Whoohoo they rich. There are still way more prisoners then guards that can manage them but as long as the Primarch’s well being depends on cooperation, nobody will resist. The humans are enslaved and put to work cataloging a whole crusade’s worth of weapons and supplies so the pirates can sell them. The astartes are forced to surrender their power armor and kept isolated on a separate asteroid prison of their very own. Celestine and her Gemini are separated and kept in chains under heavy guard. Nobody knows where Guilliman is being kept.
Ok. Now you’ve got a problem our heroes need to solve. First they need to re-establish contact with each other, probably with the help of their psychic powers. The human slaves who are moving the gear and stuff around may be in a position to gather information. Maybe the pirates decide they’re going to sell the sisters of battle and guardsmen as slaves and contact the Drukari, which is how the Eldar get wind of what’s going on.
And as events progress it becomes clear the pirates don’t really understand what they have got. They think this is just an exceptionally good day of pillaging. But having a Primarch alive is going to draw a lot of attention, and some people tell the pirates you know, sooner or later someone is going to Come For Him. And the pirates laugh it off but not all of them. Maybe one of them just says they should kill him and sell his bits as holy relics. But the prisoners sometimes require Proof of Life to maintain their good behavior. The point is the longer the situation goes on the more dangerous it becomes. It takes time to modify that many ships, sell that many slaves and decide which weapons to keep and which ones to sell. And they might not have a lot of time.
So when things finally boil over, it feels like a real climax and not just “and then suddenly, murder clowns.” We missed a chance to see our heroes be really resourceful and think their way out of a tricky situation.
…. I apologize for the ramble, forgive me, this was typed on my phone like I’m a crazy person. My point is there was potential here and now I will stop talking
@@AnIdiotsLanternwhy tf would they blow up their ships. They would want them
The issue with trying to depict soldiers with thousands of years of experience is the writer's having no idea how to put such intelligence to form.
agreed
@@ABorderPrince I know you weren't enthused from your very noticeable frustration at "those" parts haha! I just didn't get how they all would be capture without objection or "die with glory" commanded. It seemed bizarre near ALL of them were captured.
I just don't see how some writers don't study war tactics, apply it to where if both sides even, are near stalemating one another THEN something surprising yet believable happens to break the tie. It's not the only story characters seem to not be pre-emptive, the writer forgets to other characters exist and would have input.
I might be reading too much into it, yet I noticed the author only focused on whoever the scene was on, just having all other characters occupied unless moving the plot along. I've read some good stories where someone is in a pinch, yet another character, maybe not even that significant, will pop in and overall it feels alive as if this is an army with combat experience passed down centuries.
It just got frustrating listening to when bad things happened without much rebuff.
@@blumiu2426 you definitely didn't read too much in to it. The writers clearly haven't read enough. Cheers.
I don’t care how powerful they are, there are fewer soldiers in the imperium then fucking WW1
@@lordbonney9779 What?? There might be fewer space marines than soldiers in ww1, but "soldiers in the Imperium" encompasses the Imperial Guard and all the PDF:s as well. The Guard alone number in the billions, if not trillions. And the PDF number in hundreds or thousands times the number of Guards.
There's more soldiers of the Imperium dying every hour, than the total population of Earth by the time of ww1....
I still can't get over how the chaos forces capture the whole crusade and just throw them in a cell with an inept guard instead of killing everybody. Great job on the reading though. It isn't your fault that the plot is daft.
YEP!
Jim Bowen but don’t forget... ALL their servitors, war machines are all right there.
Oh and all the crew members, guardsmen and battle sisters are dead... just because.
Did they just write this up to a certain point and then get bored and let the intern have a go or something?
@@bentim7732 that’s what I thought was going on. It was a part of Magnus’ 4D chess game.
@@scarletskunkjob9842 to be honest the humans - guardsmen, battle sisters and crew members would have been got rid of as they would have been used as sacrifices because they weren't probably considered as important as the astartes.

Great work narrating this book. Assuming it is a book, that is. For the first two hours I was convinced, or hoping I was listening to a summary. By the Emperor this entire storyline needs to be rewritten and developed better. I'm fine with all the major story beats, I just wish this didn't read like Season 8 of Game of Thrones.
Story: Our group of unlikely allies journey together to Maccrage.
Me: Wow. The tensions must be high. Can I get some of their inner thoughts?
Story: No. Later some of the characters have words with each other.
Me: Mind telling me what those words are?
Story: No. So they arrive on *probably* Calth via webway, meet up with the Ultramarines who then provide them escort under heavy guard.
Me: Oh I bet some of their group couldn't have tolerated having space marine bolters aimed at them .
Story: And then Saint Celestine said some words and that kept everyone calm.
Me: ... Any idea what these +20 Charisma level words actually were?
Story: No. So then they arrive finally at the Fortress of Hera and are presented before the Chapter Master of the Ultramarines.
Me: Wait, just like that? In the middle of a pitched battle? I didn't know SPACE MARINES were so welcoming of visitors.
Story: Well they rolled out the red carpet for our band of 40k village people.
Me: Indeed. In any event there's no way Calgar is going to let them within spitting distance of the holiest site on Maccrage (the resting place of their Primarch) with a possible witch, a freaking ELDARI, and a suspicious Arch-Magos with a checkered past being followed by a walking box carrying who-knows what?
Story: Actually it will be super easy; Barely an inconvenience.
Me: Oh Really?
Story: Yeah see the Ultramarine's Librarian had some wierd dream, so he says "Trust the filthy xenos with our Primarch" and they're shown right in.
Me: Of course they are.
Story: Y'vrainne then tells everyone point-blank that their plan won't work unless Guilliman dies. So the Xenos Witch is at this point telling Space Marines she's here to kill their Primarch.
Me: I suppose there's only a token resistance to this idea and they are allowed to proceed?
Story: Yes. Also the Black Legion break in at this point.
Me: Into the most heavily defended place in the 500 worlds? That didn't take long. Say, can I PLEASE get some inner thoughts? Perhaps a bit of Dialog? Anything other than "this happened, then that happened"?
Story: No.
Its an backstory + rules book, not an narrative one
By the third hour, Inquisitor AB Prince struggled greatly to keep the sarcasm from his voice. Such was the implausible and downright idiotic nature of the text before him.
its like you were there with me lol
It was remarkable that any being, never mind a mortal man, could continue to endure. But such was the calling of an Inquisitor.
The Imperium not only wasn't always this broken (before the recent plot advancements it stood for 10,000 years and slowly declined to where it was circa 999M41) but it is still remarkably functional considering the pressures and threat environment it exists in.
@Cian Abroad I'm curious as to why you call him George.
@Cian Abroad Okay, that's so damn funny I am going to pick that up too.
The Primarch Roboute Guilliman moved at such speed that GW had to remove initiative from the game so that he wouldn't strike at initiative 1 with his Fist. Now everybody strikes at initiative 1 except Slaanesh and some others, duh.

The whole... um... Everything about Warhammer is so detailed, so convoluted to me. I only discovered Warhammer a few years ago. But, I became interested immediately upon my discovery. I could never put the concept in to any rational timeline, but wow, it certainly is fascinating. As a child I thoroughly enjoyed subjects such as Troy, the Roman Empire, Genghis Khan, and the likes. I’m sorry but how could anyone not like this this story is epic 40k has a main story again not seen since the Horus heresy.
The narrative for this book is so inconsistent the first part on Macragge is good but the whole Maelstrom plot line was totally unnecessary. It's like GW gets the amateur narrative writers for their books and the professionals go to Black Library and are left to fix GW's writers plot holes.

‘We are all our father’s sons,’ he said.
‘You are all facets of the Emperor,’ Kor Phaeron amended. ‘You are aspects pulled from a genetic primer. The Lion is your father’s rationality - his analytical skill - unburdened by conscience. Magnus is his psychic potential and eager mind, unrestrained by patience. Russ is his ferocity, untempered by reason. Even Horus...’
‘Go on,’ Lorgar said, looking up now. ‘What of Horus?’
‘The Emperor’s ambition, unshaped by humility. Think of all the worlds where our Legion waged war alongside the Luna Wolves. You’ve seen it as well as I have. Horus hides his arrogance, but it is there - a layer beneath his skin, a shroud around his soul. Pride beats through his body like blood.’
‘And Guilliman?’ Lorgar let his hands rest on his knees again. A smile inched across his features.
‘Guilliman.’ Kor Phaeron’s narrow lips moulded into a grimace, opposing his primarch’s smirk. ‘Guilliman is your father’s echo, heart and soul. If all else went wrong, he would be heir to the empire. Horus is the brightest star and you carry your father’s face, but Guilliman’s heart and soul are cast in the Emperor’s image.’

I couldn't help but give a cynical chuckle upon hearing Guilliman call someone else arrogant. Priceless bit of hypocrisy that humans pull off so well...
Thanks for the narration, for all the books & stories you share; it's much appreciated! Have a good day : )
I just what you do and how you do it . You make my life better !! Thank you with bended knee my Prince. Long live the Prince !!!!
cheers
I’m surprised you haven’t gotten a voice actor or audio recording job.
lol i wouldnt even know that world
ABorder Prince Warhammer Lore you would make a great reader for any guardsman book or game. You have that gruff sounding voice that in my opinion all the games and stories have for their characters.
2 parts John Hurt, 1 part Ian McKellen
I thought that he was already..
He sounds like Sean Pertwee
Thanks man awesome vid !
Glad you liked it!
The power of the warp is so great its warped some bits of this story into rubbish. Good job with the reading as always prince!
Absolutley brilliant 👏
Thank you for reading all of these. I listened to them while coloring. They were a mess, but I liked the parts with Celestine and Greyfax.
