In this video I mistakenly said that the Pro Connect XL went up to 700 degrees. It does not, I was misinformed. I edited that info out of the video but depending on when you watch this you might still see it. I apologize for that and will make sure I double check things in the future.
A few weeks back I commented about the XL temp being up to 700 degree. I was misinformed and then spreading that misinformation on to you. I should have researched it more before I commented. For that, I sincerely apologize. Otherwise, thank you for this great video.
@codyk-bu6uu you are not the only one I heard it from. That’s for watching and commenting!!!
What about when you said it's about 180 sq ft!? 😂🤦🏻♂️
Ok so what temp does it go to?
@johnsondoeboy2772 500f
When you're looking to spend a lot of money on a smaller sized multi-purpose grill.. it's fantastic to have someone doing a VERY detailed explanation & comparison video. Great work DGT
Right on!
I just got this as a gift for Father's Day and found your videos. I'm so glad I did. I'm a visual learner also and your videos are detailed and well paced. I'll definitely be subscribing!
Thanks and welcome aboard!
Just came across your channel while looking at the Ninja Woodfire grill. Subscribed immediately!
Thank you for all the info and the tips on cooking carnitas. I am looking forward to watching more of your videos and buying my own XL once I am comfortable with it!
Keep the vids coming!!!
Thanks for the sub!
Funny I did the same thing going to get one today
You are a freaking amazing youtube channel.. just amazing ❤
Well, thank you very much!
Do not confuse an extension cord being rated for outdoors with one being rated for a heavy load. I don’t know what gauge wire is inside the cord you’re using. It could 12, 14, or even 16 gauge and still look like yours does. What people need to pay attention to is the gauge of the wire in the cord. It needs to be 12 gauge for heavy load item like this grill. It also needs to be grounded (three prong). It is also extremely important to not use an extension cord that is any longer than it needs to be. The longer the length, the more resistance. I have some outdoor infrared patio heaters that have a similar draw to this grill. I go online and buy the shortest outdoor-rated 12 gauge, three prong extension cord I can buy to use with them (the shortest length that works for my needs, of course). I have heavy duty 12 gauge, three prong chords that are 3 feet long, 6 feet long, 10 feet long, 12 feet long, 20 feet long, and one that is 50 feet long. In short, do not use any cord with a heavy load like this grill that is not 12 gauge, three prong, and only as long as you need it to be. Doing otherwise risks a fire, damage to the wiring in your house, and damage to the grill itself.
Thank you so much. Your videos are extremely helpful especially as a beginner.
You're very welcome!
My Ninja XL arrived today, busted her open, got her fired up all right, threw on a few fresh haddock, smoky goodness dang it they were superb
Cleanup was quick and easy, no problem at all, threw on some asparagus same deal. This beastie is my first foray, and I love it
It is a great entry into the bbq smoking world!
I'd think they would have a rack with feet so stuff isn't sitting in grease + the air gets underneath the meat as well. Would shorten cook time as well
Good video. My neighbor has this smoker. I have a Masterbuilt electric smoker I bought for $350, on sale. We compared the same pork butt, cooked on both of our smokers, and mine had a lot more smoke flavor. Makes sense, larger bin for pellets on the Masterbuilt.
Did your neighbor refill the hopper during the cook or just use the one hopper worth?
@@DadGotThis I know he at least used 2 fills, maybe more.
Alway after running it for a while or when your done cooking. Check to see if your extension cord is warm or kinda hot. That means the gauge size of the wire is too small. It would be best if you bought a heaver gauge cord. The Cord should stay cool.
Great tip!
Also, looking forward to your XL quick step guide!!
I can't wait to make that one too!
(6:38) Man, 180 square feet ? THATS BIG ! You could almost drive a car onto it !
I know right! 🤦♂️
U the best bro ! luv it thanks for the info
No problem 👍
Thank you for the video AND your suggestion of keeping a record of your cooks. With that record it would be nice to have the ability to add notes to the cook record. Our Pro Connect XL is on order. Can’t wait to do our Holiday prime rib on the Ninja smoker.
Well stay tuned….
Hello, I am a new subscriber! We purchased one 2 weeks ago, and I am glad you taught me how to smoke a pork shoulder. One question! Where did you purchase your grill cart? Thank you, and enjoy watching your vlogs.
Thanks for watching! Here is the link to the grill cart I use in my videos! amzn.to/43NCXxK
PS- Great Video! I really enjoyed this... Well Informed For Anyone Starting Off. I Love This New Ninja! - I definitely Liked & Subscribed👍😉🇨🇦
Much appreciated!
Great video!!! My wife just bought me one of these! I'm excited to try it out & your video was fantastic - it answered a lot of my questions.
Ninja's really smart sending this stuff to you, you do a great job reviewing these products and give great advice. Thanks!
PPS: The app only works if you have Bluetooth of course, and you have to pair it first, but you MUST also have location on & the app must be able to connect the app to your WiFi! This is a real bummer as my WiFi won't reach to where I want to use my grill. WTF!
Thanks for watching and I am glad it helped. Unfortunately the grill does need some way to connect to the internet so it can connect. I use a mesh wifi system to make sure my wifi extends to my patio. They are sell little repeaters that you can use to help extend your wifi.
WE are enjoying yoru videos. WE pruchase this unit and it arrived today. Perfect videos for our journey. We are now subscribed as we also looing at replacing our Neato D4 robot vaccum clear with the Shark Ninja 2502AE. Another great video. thank you again
Welcome aboard!
on the Ninja site they now have a griddle plate for the XL
Yay!!!!
So I'm curious. There is a (growing) number of odds and ends that are included, and optional with this cooker, and is by design for outdoor use.
Given limited space, any tips on where to store these things (thermometers, measuring cup, pellets, fry basket, etc.) for easy access and organization? Really surprised that the Ninja stand had no provisions for such things.
This is the table I have been using and it has done me well so far. amzn.to/3zR1WW6
@@DadGotThis yeah, unfortunately in my haste, I purchased the Ninja stand. I'm going to try adding some stackable storage boxes underneath for organizing some of this.
They are plastic, so I'd never consider this for fire heated cookers, put since it's electric I think the risk is low.
Yes, you go ahead and rub it in on your Great "Unboxing" Experience! - Idiot me did not realize it unboxed so easily😭& I did struggled with it, to say the least!! lol👍😉🇨🇦
Oh no!
I have made my choice of which one to get now. Buying the XL today!
The XL is a great choice!
HSN have it $329 plus 15% off and flex pay
I wanna slow cook some birria in this thing. has anyone found out what size of a deep dish pan will fit inside of this thing?
I know a half sheet pan fits perfectly.
Dad! How cool is this ?
I cannot wait for this one to hit Europe 😀😀🇩🇰
It is really nice to have something that is this easy and fits larger cuts!
I’m having an issue with the smoke setting on my XL…it’s leaving a really bad over smoked chemical type of taste on it… I usually fill the pellets to the top and do the dad shake then allow it to ignite and then add food… but I keep having the same outcome and unable to eat my meats.. today I Only filled the pellets to the middle and same result. was curious if you knew of a way to fix it ???
I have not had the "bitter taste" with the unit so far so it is hard for me to help. First question is a weird one but humor me. Do you actually like smoked foods? Have you eaten lots of smoked food before? Just wondering what your smoke tolerance is,
Wait... What's the range on that Bluetooth? Certainly you can't take a road trip and maintain connection?
With WiFi you could check it from anywhere. I have not tested the Bluetooth exclusive though.
@@DadGotThis okay, even cooler then imagined.
Hi from Scotland.
Soon be warm enough to get out the new smokin' barbie y'all.
Thanks for the tips and info.
😊😊😊
What kind of Scottish food should I try and make?
@DadGotThis I'm Scottish as well. Great channel by the way.
have a look for square lorne sausage recipes for grilling.
For smoking an "Arbroath Smokie" is a smoked haddock.
Maybe some Venison?
I've just got my XL so I'll let you know how I get on 🏴
No disrespect your missing a secret ingredient; half to a can of coca cola. I have smoked and oven roasted pork and used this marinade with and without and it makes a difference. Thanks for your videos; because of you and CJ's videos I bought one and loving it. I live in a condo and grilling and smoking w/out electric as fuel source is not allowed. Loving it Thanks.
He did put Coca-Cola on it WTF are you talking about
Love what you doing I'm starting my own call the YUM YUM EM UP keep on
COOKSHOW
Rock on!
waiting for it to hit Costco. they always have good deals on things like this
They do!
HSN have it $329 plus 15% off
@@theresasanchez-ramsey6940 I bought XL with proconnect from Amazon. HSN is selling the XL standard for that price. Mine has the app control hence pro connect and has more cooking modes. But that is a good price on HSN. The multiple versions can be confusing
Turkey bags for marinade
Do you think anyone would notice this is electric cooking at a bbq? I'm thinking of buying this and replacing my old propane grill with it because it seems so amazingly convenient, but I am worried it won't be authentic BBQ. I don't cook for a lot of people, but do host a couple of summer backyard parties. From your video on the smaller version, it really seems like this thing is totally legit. Hope you see my message and can give me your honest opinion.
It depends on what you are cooking. If you are doing burgers (not smash), dogs etc I still think those come out better on a propane or charcoal grill. You just don't get that flamed on char that comes with cooking that way on the ninja. Now, if we are talking ribs, brisket, pulled pork or actual smoked/bbq foods then people will notice. They will notice the real smoked flavor in the cooking!
What is the minimum depth of the table?
Best regards
I ordered the xl from Sam's club on sale till June 2nd. Order on line shipped. For 319.95 not available in order club. Must be ordered to ship.
What’s your first cook going to be?
I got the XL last week. My manual says max temp is 500 degrees max. The Ninja oven goes up to 700 degrees. I too hope the griddle XL becomes available shortly.
You are correct. I was told this one went to 700 by a few people and did not test it. I should have, it in fact does not. Sorry for the wrong information. I edited out that info. It may still show up in the video for a bit but should be gone soon.
Where did you get your grill cart? It looks great.
On Amazon of course lol. amzn.to/3WBTJOU
I have one on the way, where did you get the cart/stand that it's sitting on ... good vid, subbeb
Where we all get everything lol, Amazon. amzn.to/3vAxIF6
What size grill cart is needed for the XL? Can you mesure the footprint please?
I have an XL grill cart for it. The fooprint is 20.5 x 18.5 inches. This is the one I use in my videos. amzn.to/3Ty5wfi
Why no griddle plate
I have one now!
I just got mine and could barely figure it out. The steaks did come out good though. Could not get the thermometer to work. Did not know how to set temperature. It just said hi medium or low. I think I learned that you have to get the smoker going firstand then go to grill, but I’m not sure. And people were right, a filet mignon took like four minutes instead of the book says 19. Don’t trust those cooking times. And I had it on medium.
The settings differ depending on what mode you are in. In the grill setting you only have e hi and lo. In the other modes you pick temps.
@@DadGotThis yeah I figured that out. So I just use smoker now for everything but I do have a medium setting because I have the pro XL. Love your videos by the way they are helping big time. Baby backs came out beautiful, but I think I will wrap them halfway through next time.
How much smoke comes out of this thing? Im in an apartment and dont want hassle from jealous neighbours
At startup there is quite a bit of white smoke but after a few minutes it is not that thick. Very light actually. Now the smell, they may get jealous over that.
@@DadGotThis thanks dude. I love coal on my Weber kettle but get lots of hassle from neighbours and to be fair with stuff like Picanha, the fat creates smoke signals that can be seen in Mars! Just purchased the Woodfire Pro, so excited to get back into regular cooking again.
@@BenSmith-eo6jc this should not be as bad as the Webber for sure. I actually just sold my kettle :(. However something new and exciting might be coming to take its place.
I’m curious to know were you able to get a seer for your steaks using this Pro?
Video coming really soon!
On the smoke part, How many times did you refill your pellets hopper?
I topped it off about 4 times. It wasn't totally empty each time I did it. I just topped it off each time I checked on it.
That's tyme it's grown All over the south America and the Caribbean and I have the plant and it goes well with everything that you cook.
After a little googling I guess that is another name for it. One thing I do know is it grows like CRAZY!!!
Did the Pro Connect XL smoke box fit in the original grill?...since you mentioned they appear to be the same size...and if it does fit did it work properly?
I didn’t actually try and fit it in there. I will and report back.
All that beautiful bark not included!?!
It did not go to waste!
Love this. What was your total cook time?
It went for 4.5 Hours under Smoke at 225 degrees Fahrenheit or 107 Celsius. Then it went for 2 Hours Wrapped at 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 177 Celsius. Finally, I rested it for one hour still wrapped before shredding it. Thanks for watching!
Why didn't you compare the heating element? No burn in?
There was no burn in required in the instructions. Is it something I was supposed to do?
@@DadGotThis With all my Ninja products - air fryers (dual heat flip and dble bin models) - combi cooker - and Foodi 6-in-1 smart indoor grill - I've learned the hard way on one and now burn in all appliances that get 450* - 500*+. as to Ninja instructions and "Inspiration" cookbooks I don't always agree with their times/temps so I'm not surprised they don't address burn in on the Woodfire. I did buy the Woodfire Pro XL - its 4in1 (I don't use dehydrate, broil or roast). All my Ninja products are "Smart" cook with probes so I wanted the probe. But I didn't want the bluetooth feature and dependence on WIFI. I'm tired of being tracked and didn't feel they need to know when or what I cook. Can you imagine WEF patrol falling out of the sky because you selected the Beef preset? Just kidding - well maybe not! Love your reviews it's great to see how others are using their Woodfire...have you cold smoked brick cheddar cheese yet? Try it.
What is the cooldown like on that? I can't leave easy carry $500 on my back Poarch.
Good point, I have never checked that. I will have to test that on my next cook and get back to you.
The affiliate links don’t act as hyperlinks. 😢
Try them now. Sorry about that. Sometimes youtube is funny about how you format the links.
Hey. Nice cook. Have you had a chance to compare the thermometer accuracy to a proper probe? Is it far off?
I ran some temps against my thermapen and it was bang on for this one cook. I want to try a few others to be sure though.
@@DadGotThis Cool. Thermapen is fine for me. It's the most accurate I have. Does the XL run as hot the little guy? Mine is perpetually 10-15 C, or 25F above setting.
I normally run my cooks lower than standard smoker recipes on the regular woodfire. I think it’s because it’s such a small area. On this one cook I ran it at the normal temp you would on a standard size smoker and it took the correct amount of time to cook. It’s one cook though. I do have a probe that tells me ambient temp which I plan on using to check how accurate the inside temps are though.
What model is this one please ?
It is the XL Pro Connect Model. I believe the model number is OG951.
I bought that grill, tell me is the fan supposed to run when on grill?
I do not believe so. The grill setting is only for heating the bottom grate and work with the lid open.
@@DadGotThis my fan blows when grilling wth
Not Vaseline on the camera lol
Hate when that happens....
Compared to the smaller grill, are you finding the XL much louder? Like quite a lot louder in comparison? I've just received my XL, and compared to the smaller, I'm finding it quite loud on the fan. Wondering if this one has an alignment issue and worth exchanging it.
That is not something I noticed. However I never really listened for it. I will plug both up and see now though.
@@DadGotThis Thanks! I couldn't find anyone mentioning that it sounded a lot louder or having done a sound comparison highlighting the difference, which made me think it must be my unit if I'm being put off so much by it and nobody has said a word, anywhere! lol. There was also a noticiible vibration in the handle. I contacted Ninja who did a video call with me. Gave me an uplift number so it can be collected and a new one sent out... I'll be getting that one tomorrow. So, hopfuly the replacement one won't sound the same and was just a dud.
Update: The replacement XL arrived, and is indeed a lot quieter than the one I got initially. I suspect it was a slightly unbalanced fan being the reason.
@rfc1795 I am glad to hear that I did not think it was louder.
Can you smoke a Turkey in it?
Sure can, I think they claim a 12lb bird fits.
We use phone's internet, so it's not for us
Ninja needs to make hybrid model that runs on propane or electric. This would have been useless after Ian hit and we lost power for 2 weeks.
what about a rack of ribs?
Actually cooked my Maple Bacon 🥓 coffee ribs on it last night and they came out GREAT!!
@@DadGotThis awesome thanks!
Why was my comment deleted?
I don't recall deleting a comment of yours. UA-cam has filters on that auto deletes things based on certain words, or other things. What was it about? I also have it turned on to not allow links to be posted because I was getting hit with a bunch of spammers. Were you trying to post a link?
@@DadGotThis no, just wanted to ask if you had a direct email to the Ninja company. It probably was my email that I asked you to email me. No worries all is good. 😊
I actually deal with a 3rd party that handles promotion for them. You can email me, my email is in the channel info.
@@DadGotThis Thanks much, I appreciate your time and effort!
Im selling that one for 400 new never used
Can’t justify the price when a propane grill that’s 5x the size is the same price.
Totally understand that but I feel like those items kind of are targeted to different consumers. The Ninja is well suited for someone who doesn’t really have the space for something that size, or may not be allowed to have propane due to restrictions like being in an apartment. I have both and use them for different cooking tasks respectively also. Each does some things better than the other. The ninja does some that a propane grill can’t at all.
How did you know when to fill the hopper?
What about a turkey for the XL.?
Got an XL a few weeks ago. I got the 4in1. I don’t dehydrate, and I think air fry is close enough to broil for me. Saved $150. $300 for the grill. Totally worth it for the size as I smoke ribs and bigger cuts. And so easy! I’ve been a charcoal guy for decades, but full-time rv’ing this thing is easy, compact, and FAST, with great smoke flavor. Is it the same as charcoal? NO. It’s different. Still good! Just different. My little charcoal grill is going into storage with my kamado. I’ll break ‘em out whenever I stop traveling. For me, this thing is fantastic.
Sounds perfect for your use case!
Just got mine... So is one born with the knowledge of how to install the grease pan? I see no instructions in the box showing this, and I apparently missed that gene.
Oh cool, ~m17 you show this. Thanks!
Glad I could help!
Excellent chiffinade! Dad got knife skills!
I had to google it lol! But yes I can cut!!
@@DadGotThis Looked like a pro! And I should know, I've been watching Food Network for 25 years! 😁😁

How was the smoke flavor? I might have missed your opinion about it
Plenty of smoky flavor in it. I never really had a problem with lack of smoky flavor in the regular woodfire either. They seem to give a really good smoky flavor. To the point where it is event too much sometimes for my wife who does not like a lot of smoke flavor.
Spaceballs
I’m interested to buy but I have a question “Do have an idea how much it’s the electricity bill in a calendar month using this Ninja woodfire XL Pro?”Thank you
I can’t say that I have seen any noticeable difference.
Saving the marinade for the second part of the cook at first seemed to be a brilliant idea. Until I immediately thought you just has raw pork in it. And now you are going to pour the juice from the marinade that the raw pork sat in over a partially cooked pork shoulder. I'll passnon dinner.
I would agree with you if I didn’t cook it for a LONG TIME after adding it. If all I did was pour it and then eat it yeah. But no real difference using it in the beginning vs a little while in. I still cooked the marinade.
well after watching this I got on the link sight and ordered it from the phone that was listed instead of the web site. I feel I got a pretty good deal from Nicole and she was very patient with me and answered all my questions , I ended up paying for extra pellets and a total of taxes 424.84 .Thank you for this video did a great job michel
I hope you enjoy it and subscribe for more content on recipes, tests and techniques!
My wife just got me one for Valentine’s Day
400 bucks at Walmart
Score!
Shut up and take my money! I'm in Canada and I can't find it here. Take it! TAKE IIIT!!!
That sucks!
@DadGotThis I got my Pro Connect XL yesterday and tried it out for the first time. I smoked chicken thighs at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. The thighs came out very juicy and tender, so I was happy about that, but I was pretty disappointed with the smoke flavor. I added in one scoop of the pellets Ninja provided (the robust blend) and barely got any smoky flavor in the thighs. Is there something else I should be doing to improve the smoke flavor profile? Should I try Grilling with the Woodfire setting instead of using the Smoke function?
How long did they take to cook at 375? I would guess not that long. That is also a pretty high temp to hope for smoke taste. If you are trying to maximize smoke flavor do the following. Make sure you put the meat in “COLD”. Cold meat takes smoke better. You can also put the food in during the ignition process, but you might get some bitter flavor from the heavy smoke. Cook at a much lower temp, like 200F or 225F. Also I feel like the ninja pellets are very mild, try another brand.
@@DadGotThis thanks I cooked for 30 minutes. I'm so used to a charcoal grill that this is a learning curve for me. Thank you for the tip about the cold meat. I'll try putting it in during the ignition process too. I saw your video about the Kona pellets. I'll give those a try.
Way too high for smoking. Try 250. Also, this smoker mostly smokes the outside, doesn't get in deep for short time cooking. You need at least 2 hours or more.
Hi
just got ninja xl pro connect from Amazon though don’t know if that makes a difference but
Did not receive grill plate …basket or instructions would u know if we have to order separate
Umm, you should have definitely received all of those items. They are part of the standard grill. I would return or contact Amazon.
@@DadGotThis Will do
Thank you
I have the Ninja pizza Oven and love it.
I love the pizza oven too!
What is the table/cart you used under this grill?
It is this one. It is really great. amzn.to/3POmTXo
Great job.
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome
Thanks!!!
See the same thing all the time with those Ninja Woodfires. The top of the meat is to close to the heater so the meat burns black. Although the idea is good but
results on a kamado with charcoal will be more tastfull i.m.o..
But what about the convection with the fan and the airflow. It it much harder to get that on the other grills. I have not personally experienced overcooking at the top in my ninjas.
Did mama never tell you not to play with your food?
