    Balearic slings are most commonly made from 3,5, and 7. 7 is best for thick slings, 5 for thinner slings, and 3 are simply faster to make. The more strands, the more responsive it is in the hand. 7 strands is also more durable if you don't use leather protection for the pouch.

      I am sorry if it sounds stupid, but I have to ask: what do these number refer to? The strands? If so, how come the 7 braid is similar to a 3 strand braid?😅

    • @Archaic-Arms
      @Archaic-Arms Рік тому +3

      @@elmesau9661 Yes I refer the number of strands. Luis's sling is 7, Loki's 5, and Diego's 3.
      7-strand slings often transition to 5, and then 3 strands during the taper of the release cord.

      @@elmesau9661 theyre not the same. Each individual strand in the 7 braid is thinner than each individual strand in the 3 braid.

      Thank u for the answers!
      Now I just wonder if they braid like a 3 strand braid with uneven number of strands or there is something I don’t catch 😅
      On a side note, why do they prefer odd numbers?

    • @IndigoBees
      @IndigoBees Рік тому +2

      @@elmesau9661 Yes the technique for all of them is very similar to a 3 strand braid. You can do it with even numbers too, but it results in an uglier braid. The center line will favor one side.

    3:25 „from Austria-Germany“ …
    That‘s only technically the same thing from the 1930s until 1945…
    Just remembered story of the crazy lil Austrian dude with a tiny moustache that mnanaged to convince Germany to kick off another world war…

    The slings are cool and all but uhhh... that tree is super cool. Easily the best part of the video is looking at that badass tree.

    I just recieved the seeds for a balearic sling to braid coming november. I saw someone making a sling from scratch from the fibers from some leaves of a plant I don't know. The most logical plant to plant here in the Netherlands is hemp, and with a bit of luck with the weather in autumn I can smoke the flowers.

    There's the sling i made,I'm really glad you like it. Next year you will get one with a release end made of modern material. Or completely made of modern material if you prefer that. But I'm still experimenting because modern materials have a little less grip on the ball (some tasks not so easy to solve with an Egyptian pouch). By the way, I really like your slimmer sling. It fits perfectly my throwing style and the two finger loop is surprisingly versatile i always hold my finger loop like the string of a bow (and on the middle finger directly after the first finger joint) one can also do that with your Smiley Sling- finger loop, middle and ring finger right after the first joint and the knot fits perfectly again. I'm already looking forward to next year.

    You did not explain what you mean by the first part of the sling and the second part of the sling.
    -. What do you mean by the Numbers 3, five, seven? You talk fast but you didn't explain. I hope you some can help me with that.

      They say that people who use slings are stuck in the ancient era.
      Not this man; he’s only 200 years behind.

    i think the one on the left side of the video is a 7 times braid and the right one is a 3 times braid. From my own experience (but only recently collected, so please thake a grain of salt here) i assume it is similar to forging (folded) blades: there is a certain point from which more often makes no longer any sense (to improve quality), in this case the result is probably 7. I built a slings (balearic design) with a 15-strand braid, but the result was no better than with 7 strands.

    You mentioned that apart from pouch been heavier, which line was you on abt that should be lighter? The retainer (finger loop) or the throwing line......I found that information interesting.

    I have braided several slings from hemp, with a tapering release cord 3 strands. It is fun to do, now I would like to find tuutorials for more sophisticated patterns, does anyone know a tutorial in English or Spanish? I think I have seen one, but that one was in something which sounded like Catalan, which was a bit difficult for my Dutch ears. I would love to see a tutorial for makiing those ones.

    how do Balearic slings stop from coming undone? They never use a knot but splice out materials constantly and taper down neatly? I always end up with tons of excess tuffs of sisal running down the release cord and ultimately have to use a knot at the end of the taper to prevent unraveling

      Hey ya channing hope you had a great christmas. Whos lius? And laurence? Tried finding them and only found laurence levermore hospital. How do i make a tapered sling? At the moment im making paracord slings with four plats fir retainer and 3 for the release. Do you do tutorials on how to do the split sling poutch? Like your egyptian ones? Im a bit sick of parachuting poutches. The split slings poutches vibrate and whistle which is cool.
