👍A sling with a stone is an excellent ranged weapon. A sling with a ball is a great sport. Both kinds are cool! it's a pity we don't have a place in a big city where you can throw stones and have to go very far to make everything safe.

Something that helped me is letting go when it’s to the side not in front. The rock it pointing to the front only when it’s at your side. This makes it so you don’t have to slow down

For some reason if i add a wrist flip as i release not only does the sling crack and my power increases but also my accuracy improves 10 fold.. wrist flip and throwing the knot like Spiderman at the target 🕸️

Love the vid. More similar content. The tip that helped me get better was don't hesitate with your spins, be confident with your wind up. Meaning don't stand and spin till you feel ready then attempt to time your throw. Have a standard and regular revolution limit. I dont spin more then 3 times. Each spin is deliberately moved. The release is always the same. The figure 8 throw is the best for this as the motion is 3 consecutive movements then a release. But its helpful with the standard style ad well. Every revolution is an attempt to gain acceleration, not an arbitrary movement until you feel ready. A deliberate movement with a known release point. Every time.

Nice useful video , thank you . I'm an old novice slinger , but I have had many years of target work in my past ( boomerang, archery, air rifle and pistols , full bore 900yrd 7.62 mm even knife 🔪 throwing ....) it's all down to muscle memory and consistency. What a wonderful hobby to practice safely with soft balls ,to the total lethality of rocks 🪨. Your overhead throw is exactly what I'm working on 💪 .

Every weapon has its own challenges and pros and cons, and needs its own dedication to properly train. With a sling, there are various methods, from the many different spinning methods to the no-spin over/under/side shots. I think that Ideally, the best thing to do is to dedicate a month (each) of training exclusively to every method you can find so you can do any of them in a pinch, and then pick the method that feels the most natural/intuitive/accurate TO YOU and then stick to that as your specialty. Then as you grow in your form, you will naturally add little tricks and tweaks to make that form your own.

One of the hardest parts is recreating that perfect throw, trying to get the body and movements exactly the same every time, and some days everything is just clicking and you can’t miss, then the next day you’re fighting for just a couple of good shots.

The helicopter technique for me is the hardest to use, there’s a guy on here (HaifschKuchen) has a video with 6 techniques to try out all different.I started with a shorter sling which helped me a lot,the faster id throw the more off target it was,I found by slowing down just a touch got me closer to the target with only slightly less distance ..thanks for sharing 👍happy slinging!

In these days we have a lot of Goliath sized problems. No matter how huge the problem, never helpless. Kinda feel smug with that sucker wrapped around my wrist and a few stones in the pocket. Glad I am walking distance away from our old dismantled railway, and the spillway over at local dam is a great backdrop of concrete. Got a duct tape x on it. Fig 8 I find is most accurate, helicopter is great if you are used to sidearm, but I do tend to aim a bit to the left..... find initial stance lineup is important. Follow through like baseball throwing is good, and yeah, only one or two revs to speed up, but slow slow slow aaaand snap. I tend to have a comfy follow through and after the shot, the tag end lands in opposite palm, ready for that next rock. Am loving the excuse to get out with a pack. my current range am working on is about 40 yds, even 60 is decent, but needs practice of course..... is such a fun activity to take family and friends with. Had construction workers take a break and watch from half block away on railway ave, got a boulder in a rock pile I like to target on at 60ish yds. And some seem to be interested, a little exposure therapy, just happens that my usual place has some traffic walking by, and occasionally questions, love giving a demo, and keep an extra shorter one if they wanna try. They are usually very surprised at how scary deadly those are, folks forget about David, or Balearic and Roman and Greek armies....... hehe. Love how far you can get and how eerily accurate one can be with the underhand shots too, am sure across the Dam is somewhere around 280yds mark, and that boulder across on the shore, great target, had to do a little jig every now and then when I burn out shoulder from fig 8 and sidearm helicopter, but don't wanna stop..... so distance with underhand..... man she the line is good, and land like 5 feet in front.... That is worth a little jig. Stone takes like 8 seconds to get there...... and THUMMP! heheh.

Consistancy with ammunition is pretty important, same as with a catapult (slingshot) to get consistent hits. Even the Romans made lead shot and ancient people made clay shot for war.
David was VERY specific in the five stones he chose.

man, I could sling all day if my shoulder and back could take it.... gotta be careful, usually have to limit to two or three half full cloth shopping bags of rocks or about 80 lbs of em or so, to not overdo, but yesterday, only one, gotta watch the tearing or I will have to wait a week, and that ain't gonna fly. Is so much fun, and so rewarding when doing well. Love my assault style shoelace. Thanks for the pointers. And yeah, practical paracord is a great source.

I find the weight of the object thrown makes a difference. I have a lead cannonball mold ( golf ball size) and the weight helps with accuracy and I also throw in a figure 8.

Went out today and slung for the first time in my life with a split pouch sling i made from jute twine and leather. Didn't do too bad and seemed to go in the direction i wanted. I was trying to hit a cheese cracker box and missed by about 6 inches to a foot 3 times and all others were either high or far left lol.

Now I need to try it with a sling. But I live in the city and I a mobile home park now that I am retired so I don't have any place near by to practice

Slings can be dry fired. A rolled up sock is great to practice with, it will not go very far. Grab some practice tennis balls at Walmart and head for the closest park empty field, or empty baseball field. I sometimes sling tennis balls at disc golf courses. I also sling golf balls at driving ranges and recently played a round of golf w/ my sling. Had no problem keeping up w/ the other golfers.

I watched on channel. He does it in one motion. The way he talked about it was to pick up a stick and throw it over your head. That is the motion you are going for. So just one motion and throw.

These were every kid's favorite toy where I grew up. And I'm still pretty damn good with one. Hopefully these 2 tips will help.
1 .Don't spin. Historically, the only reason people spun was to keep the stone seated while running (like a Lacrosse ball). It actually has no effect on your release.
    2. Don't think of it as a sling. Just before your release, the cord is straight as an axe handle. So modify your throw into a horizontal axe toss...
Im also curious why you call it a "Sheppard's" sling. That's actually one of these with both ends tied to a sheppard staff. You throw that like a lacrosse ball, or a trebuchet. And the length of the staff exponentially multiplies the force of the throw. (We had those as kid's too. But the adults always took them away. 😂 You can send a stone through a car door with one of those.)

I learned a brute force pirouette style from a Finnish guy on yt called timpa linkosling. Now it's super satisfying but very difficult to be accurate. I could hit a barn door at 180 meters in like 1 out of 100 throws haha. Today I tried a much shorter sling and the figure 8 style and it was like going back to square one. I managed to sort of get it after a lot of tries but still doesn't feel fluid and no where near as far. I suppose it's just practice as with everything. Thanks, your vid was very helpful. 😎👍

It can be a hard road to be bow accurate with a sling if you objects are round or oblong try releasing with the side of the pouch instead of flipping the pouch open seems to give the straightest shots for round or oblong objects now if what your throwing isn't very round or it's flat flipping the pouch open works well but usually curves the shot a bit more check out archaic arms video on how to use a balaric sling covers this style of release i think he calls it the bullet spin release

Stand up straight w/ your throwing arm relaxed and fully extended along your side. Measure from the tips of your fingers to the ground. You now have the maximum length from the center of the pouch to the end of retention cord loop. Shorter slings are more accurate and longer slings more powerful. Experiment to find your ideal length. Most beginners start with too long of a sling.
