That's a beautiful story about Benny. God bless him. I wish my grandpa would have shared a few stories. As far as he was concerned, those years of his life were over and done with, never to be talked about again. I love hearing our elders talk about the old days. Amazing song! JP was the greatest songwriter that ever lived. But you've got to hear Swamp Dogg cover this. John and Swamp became good friends and even performed a couple songs on Swamp Dogg's most recent album right before John died. But hearing Swamp Dogg cover Sam Stone may possibly be the best cover ever

You should look up John Prine "Hello in there".
Some of his songs are more joyful, but I'd recommend Hello In There before moving on to his other great stuff. All of his songs tell the truth.

I love John Prine and I love this song. When Johnny Cash covered this song he wouldn't sing "Jesus Christ died for nothing I suppose" So listen to his cover and see how he changed it . I absolutely adore John Prine's music and I love Johnny Cash. Just a little factoid about when he covered his music. He loved John Prine too he just didn't care for that line.

I see you have a good selection of older music. Which is when my love of music started. Music my parents played. Loved it. Try Aurora. Runaway. Live at Nobel Peace Concert or Murder 54321. I love the music I have seen you have reacted to and this may be a little different and more current but still good. Her Runaway song reminded me of being a kid in the country and listening to music and feeling safe at home.

Thank you for reacting to this song - IMO Swamp Dogg's cover was better but still great. People need to empathise more with those suffering from addiction - they're always trying to cover some pain, something broke them and they're trying their best to keep things together while hating themselves every day.
Anyone that thinks an addict gets high for pleasure really doesn't understand what it's like.
