i would reckon payback was refered to internally as a 3rd destiny game not D3.

I know right? Genshin and warframe are miles apart in the types of game they are.
Luke Smith DOES NOT represent the good times of destiny bruh. Taken along was the last time he did anything worthwhile. The glazing byf does for the people that helped ruin Bungie while shitting on dudes like Marty o Donnell is very very telling
Destiny is in the top 5 most profitable space IP's. Maybe 3rd behind StarWars and StarTrek if it beat out WH 40k.
Sony didn't buy Bungie for merely a game studio, they bought the Destiny IP which is far more valuable. Sony also has a film studio...
So, my theory is that 'Payback' was scrapped because telling the stories of Cayde, Ikora, Zavala, and the rest by means of a movie series or TV show would be an *_EXCELLENT_* way to capitalize off the Destiny IP.
They could even hint at or add some Easter eggs of a new mysterious antagonist in the show that could lead to D3. But if I'm right it will probably be close to a decade before we see D3.

You people think destiny is way bigger than it actually is. Unfortunately its not this epic amazing thing. Seriously? Comparing it to star wars? You people are starry eyed.
On the contrary, I think people undersell how big Destiny is because people like to be negative online all of the time. You're correct in that it cannot be compared to a Star Wars "Franchise". But if you split out just the Star Wars games it's as big, if not bigger. It's obviously dwarfed in worldwide fandom when it comes to cinema and everything else.
@@mikel2d384 really? Borderlands. Fallout. Elder scrolls. Dragon age. Dungeons and dragons. Warhammer. Final fantasy. LotR Etc. And these are just narrative wise.
If you include online pvp games there are a bunch of other franchises. D2 community need to touch some grass.
The best way to describe Destiny in that way is that it's a movie. While others are epics. It's your average stuff. Not this amazing thing but not a bad thing either.

I’m not entirely disagreeing with you, but Destiny is more sought after than most online communities would have you believe. Their numbers surrounding their big releases and reveals are indicative of that. Destiny is the only one of its kind gameplay wise (in a live umbrella). It has great lore too, but I’m not disputing that its lore usurps the others you mentioned. But should it ever get a place in cinema or series, don’t be surprised if it does better than you think, that’s all.
