This isn't the usual sort of video I do, but this is probably my longest edited video on the channel that took a very long time to do. I felt a heavy sense of dread yesterday… just realizing this really is it for bungie. I dreamed to work for them as a kid, then rethought it when Destiny was entrenched in controversy. I still love and play Destiny often… but I feel like I’m playing with a friend who’s dying in less than a year. It’s depressing
Please explain the “Less content drops in the future” statement as I thought episodes were specifically made to give us more content than what’s within a season, so far we have 3 strikes like battlegrounds that will likely enter the vanguard playlist, breach executable, enigma protocol, and an exotic mission. That sounds like more than we’ve gotten in episodes to me.
Praise to ya for pointing these things out bro, sadly seeing far too many fans in denial of the faults and pinning the mistakes on problems originating from microsoft or activision or recently sony, when bungies choices r their own faults
"This isn't the usual sort of video I do" yeah no shit, coz you're the typical surface-skimming type of content creator who covers store updates, new stuff mentioned in patches etc. You don't do deep dives, you don't mention lore or how it affects the choices the devs make to develop certain weapons and story, to you everything is just content. And this video shows. You don't touch on anything else we don't know about Bungie, there is nothing new compared to what many other 'better' video essays about the topic have already touched on. And your approach to emphasizing the 'downfall' of Bungie is so full of superficial fluff I'm completely regreting my choice of even clicking on this video. Seriously, stick to your superficial content reporting from now on. Many parts of your video kept calling Bungie "lazy", and likewise I could say the same about you for putting out such a shallow Bungie-bashing video without delving into the myriad of choices they made on releasing their expansions. No mention of community feedback shaping the developers' choices. Such a sad existence for someone like you to attempt a new video format because you just realised Destiny2 might not provide you with the usual content monetisation you rely upon. Don't blame Bungie for your insecurities and inadequacies to create better content. TL;DR shite video from another typical content creator crying out for help because Destiny2 content drying up. "Don't recommend this channel".
@@kellofkells6002 In the future it's been stated that we'll likely to move away from the episode model as its not working the way Bungie want, so instead, 2 small content packs per year with a smaller anual expansion.
And you Guardian. I had some amazing games with some great people. Those made a big difference to my playing experience. The time me and a random pushed on and 2 manned a GM because the other bailed on us at the start was a stand out. So much fun!
I’m not playing it out of principle. If they are gonna abandon destiny when their fans are finally coming back then I’m not gonna continue to support them
@skred6792 no but considering destiny players are the reason destiny is their most successful project that's been keeping them afloat you'd expect them to treat the game and player base with more respect . Even for non destiny players, the way they're treating destiny gives the company a bad look that would make many people not want to take a chance on another project done by the same studio
Funny how all three major publisher had issues with Bungie's lack of content output all while Bungie complained about being over worked. All their mmo competitors crank out content at almost double the rate. Even Sony is pissed they can't hit their benchmarks.
@@SuperStormDroid what do mean confiscated the IP. Destiny is a sony IP. Bungie is a subsidiary of sony. Not a third party studio. It's sony's internal studio. Sony wholly owns bungie. They are sony employees. Like how Microsoft owned bungie back then and how Microsoft owns halo.
I know Sony is PISSED that people still leaving even with Final shape because like realistically anyone smart can see final shape really wasn't going to do anything. LIKE BRO I still have d2 uninstalled since final shape and after I played with prismatic, it was kinda just like "ok cool? I can redo all the same EXACT content but different😮"
@@IsntTedexactly like they were hyping up final shape with everything and the only things good were the pyramid ship pre-order and caydes ending other then that I enjoyed the vanguard strikes gambit and the dungeons but yeah just feels stressed now trying to get shit daily
It's amazing bungie lasted this long. One of the most tone deaf bad decision companies I can remember. The crisp shooting mechanics in destiny is the only thing that kept them alive.
This 100%, I've been banging this drum for years, the moment to moment gameplay is just so good, everything else is peripheral to this single factor. It's the reason they've managed to survive this long, and as recent events have shown us, even though Bungie has been badly run at the executive level with a level of consistency that is almost impressive.
There was also a lack of activities that were fun to play. They keep sunsetting them. They are actively shooting themselves in the foot repeatedly with each sunset
@@SuperStormDroid i doubt they'll do much to actually improve. iirc they abandon a rather large amount of games after the acquisition of companies and they or corpo suits who only care about money and will probably kill it harder, i have been a PSN fan/player since the PS2 but i do not like Sony, they do not make things better
Yeah the dcv was the worst punch in the gut for player morale and the new light experience, they removed almost everything people enjoyed from the game.
They really should’ve just made Destiny 3 at that point. You can at least still go back and play Destiny 1 and all it’s content that isn’t in D2, but good luck trying to play any pre shadowkeep D2 content, wether it be strikes, Raids or entire campaigns as well as weapon and armor sets.
I quit when they sunset the gear, and really why would I ever want to come back? Unless you're going to boost my several years outdated gear to the current light level. Why would anyone want to come back just to grind hours and hours for the same gear that bungie took from them to begin with, while making the game actively more predatory and repetitive?
@@gagethompson8943 I’ve been saying that bungie deciding to remove half of the game and weapons killed the game they didn’t add anything back to replace what was lost
I will rater buy WinRAR than Marathon they deserve my Money more than bungie. Sice Sony took over the Game feels Like Money is the only Thing they want. I know that Money is important but If WE Look at would of Warcraft IT is old really old Had Bad Times also good but with the newest DLC kinda catched me (i Played wow Till wotlk) and i kinda want to Go Back. Bungie is a really Bad company now days.
Put Marathon, a game that nobody asked for, before the golden goose that people want a sequel to. I don’t even care about layoffs. Concord should serve as a warning to Bungie.
Concord shoud serve as a warning to EVERYONE. Studios need to make games we want to play. Live service should be a way to keep a relatively simple game fresh. The whole point of Fortnite is to be the last one standing, but every season we get different guns, locations in the map, etc. Other studios have been trying to feed us stories through the live service format and it doesn't work because eventually the narrative will reach it's natural conclusion like with The Final Shape and players will just leave.
You’re killing me now.. The Forsaken vs Lightfall content quantity and quality just hit me hard. I never realized that as a returning player from Red War to Lightfall.
If you're jumping in at a new expansion, there's basically no mentionworthy content in the game. Spent a few days roaming the patrol zones, was still fun someway. Still miss the red war campaign, I played the hell out of that in Forsaken during the gambit season
The idea that bungie will storm the extraction looter shooter genre with Marathon is whack. The genre is already so terribly burnt out no one I know plays them anymore.
Plus they already have a problem with cheaters in both PvE and PvP. Now in a game like destiny where you don't lose loot when you die, cheaters are a secondary problem In extraction shooters is a wildly different story.
Facts, I ain’t touching that game at all. I’m still pissed about the dcv. It’s more apparent now than ever. The ritual playlist was the place to go when everything slowed down but they are so stale and boring because of the lack of actual strikes, and the boring battlegrounds we grinded to death during their respective seasons
I'll do you better, and not touch it with a 9579847928370938275390857204958734209857340958732405983479759487897897857589340757234857340985273985739857408798250983475832945730573204985734908573240573240987289-mile pole.
Let Destiny die, I loved that game more than anything and all they did was try to screw over the most loyal players over and over. They've ran out of chances to do the right thing and if you think otherwise you're delusional.
You'd be surprised how many people think the game is only going to get better. I've gotten into a few too many arguments with people online telling me I'm too negative and to leave us "players" to enjoy the game. Fucking delusional
The problem with Bungie is the CEO, the employees don't want to work 24/7 not knowing that today or tomorrow might be their last day, they need a new CEO who actually knows how to manage a big studio like Bungie, otherwise everything will go to shite
its not just the CEO. The CEO also does the hiring. To just blanketly assume that there arent developers and lower level staff who are pure and clean and innocent in any of this is without evidence. They know what the company does and stands for. They could go work somewhere else. They dont.
@@kingcurmudgeon8685 go fuck yourself its not easy to "just go work for someone else" if you never know if you get the job or not and ya know living kinda requires money
CEOs will always do their CEO bullshit, its unavoidable,. Destiny 2 devs simply dont want to work, everything good about final shape was done when they took extra time and were under pressure and threat of being fired. Bungie fired 500 people and lost 200-300 to sony, not only did it not not affect game, game is arguably better now that some of these people were fired. Because these people were doing nothing but drinking coffee, having meetings and knitting sessions instead of working.
@kingcurmudgeon8685 @FluffyFlounders Ha! Listen to these two buffoons. "Bungie sucks because nobody wants to work anymore!" Doesn't matter that the general game development environment is one where people are overworked and often asked to compromise more innovative ideas for the sake of profit. It forces morale to drop. This weird take that folks just don't want to do work anymore is absolute dipshittery.
@@FluffyFloundersthat’s stupid, saying the devs don’t want to work and that’s the issue is just silly. What job have you been to where can easily be fired allows workers not to work? The issue will always be upper management because they decide what does and doesn’t happen in game. Especially when they know what we as players want and don’t want. I put the blame on the ceo, directors and all upper management that make decisions. Not the devs that clock in and out and are told what got do on thier shift.
Already uninstalled Destiny 2, it has become overwhelming with too much stuff from classes to fragments to boring repetitive events to stupid inclusive history, it's like man I wanna play and have a good time, and don't get me started in the total abandonment of the PvP aspect, the one thing that made me stick to the game for so long.
I too used to play Destiny mainly for pvp. They abandoned PvP years ago. Never any new maps. Constantly vaulting maps, bring them back pretending they are "new".
My clan went from at least 3-4 raids a week to none since the episode started. I’m feeling the fatigue of Destiny for the first time since the beginning.
Feels man, my clan has dipper to like only 4 to 5 people being active and this is a clan if over 50 people. No one wants to play D2 anymore, myself included.
@@TheNemisisxpeople are blaming the studio.. its the player base, no one wants to do the “things” we all use to love after a decade of doing it.. no one wants to farm, grind LL, etc. We want everything streamlined, and it ruined the day to day reasons/desires to turn on the game.. were on year 7 .. the best and most replayable part about destiny… the weapons and gear, our vaults are full we only actually use maybe 5-7 guns every year that come out..and armor, its completely obsolete, we have all our min/max gear.. we have like 130 exotic weapons and 100 exotic armor..the game is saturated naturally after 7 years. We all love Destiny but were all bored of “Destiny” and its better than its ever been gameplay wise..
Played since beta d1 I have been part of highs and lows I haven’t played since the first episode but since the game lunched a little bit every day wasn’t uncommon for 10 years that’s a lot done all the raids dungeons go flawless when I like and just effectively only played destiny and now it just feels off I am looking for a replacement that I don’t feel exists and marathon looks awful I guess I will go back to it for a week or so maybe for nostalgia but that’s it unless d3 ever happens a fresh start needs to happen
@@slats1537which is exactly why they should make a d3 and make an effort to create something new. The fact that they refuse to and just keep pumping out mediocre seasons is evidence that bungie clearly thinks that they don’t actually need to put any effort in
To be honest you didn't hit the worst offender of Destiny 2 right now. It makes sense though because as a long time destiny content creator you don't think about it. But its the new player experience. The game will always have a steady decline instead of a balanced one as long as the new player experience forces people to not want to play right from the start. The story is way too confusing for them and how its to be experienced. Many of them probably don't even know that shadowkeep, beyond light, and witch queen expansions are all free with the campaigns either. Long time players can't recommend the game to their friends until it is legitimately fixed otherwise their friends will never trust their advice again.
@@gleebybooer just so im completely clear, its not just destiny players are quitting because of greed and activism, its all of them and concord was a beautiful example of that.
You guys remember when Sony brought Bungie in to help fix up their live service model? Remember when Bungie brought the axe down on the The Last Of Us live service game but said they believed that Concord could be successful? Remember earlier in this vid where it's speculated that Bungie is forsaking Destiny in favor of Marathon? Like they did with Halo for Destiny? Anyone else seeing the pattern here?
Helldivers 2 is not competing with Destiny 2 about who can get more players. they are competing with who can kill their game the fastest, and let me tell you, Helldivers 2 is winning right now
Probably one of the worst gaming companies out there when you take account of the company’s culture, treatment of employees and consumers, and the games monetization. It’s probably second to activision and blizzard but honestly that’s debatable. The extreme monetization, eververse constantly gets stuff added, the prices increase for ornaments, they charge an insane amount for little items like for example 8$ for shaders, they charge for every little thing in a dlc, making you pay 50 for a dlc, 20 for dungeons, and 10 for season, forced people to buy dlcs to play forsaken then take away those dlcs, made the game free after 2 years (really one year since vanilla d2 doesn’t really count), raised the prices of seasons and dlc while making the content smaller, whine about having to do their jobs like balancing guns and designing and adding ritual armor once a year, constantly and obnoxiously virtue signal and discuss politics to make themselves look like good people, only to be exposed for fostering a toxic work culture and treating their employees like dirt, management refusing to take a pay cut to help employees, ceo buying a bunch of cars before firing people. It’s honestly such a great company.
Bro eververse monetization is just normal asfuk . We lucky almost everythin get on the brightdust section for 1 week . Every other games like that would monetize at 90% eveverse and nevee let the things go for brightdust.
What also hurts so much about Destiny dying is that D2's early content is unplayable & the older Seasons are unplayable so we will never be able to experience them ever again which totally sucks.
Ngl, been playing this franchise since i was 11, now 19. Knowing that destiny is dying tears my heart to pieces. I really hope for something big. Anything that makes the game enjoyable again. But it seems that the ceo just doesn't care about us no matter what. This might be immature but i do hope their new game will flop hard asf so they do something good to destiny again or sell it to a company that will treat us well. Anyway it was nice playing with y'all
Bungie is keeping their original promise, 10 years of Destiny. They had no problem leaving Halo behind for Destiny and it appears they're leaving Destiny for Marathon or some other project(s). I hope I'm wrong.
Destiny is one franchise I don't want to die since I've been playing from D1 but man it's a hard play nowadays, seems so boring and unless you have two others it gets worse 😂🤣
For me I feel the opposite, kinda blaming myself for taking on too little content for something as costly as D1/D2 for too long, so by me saying I want bungie to die is solely my belief it could lead to a fresh new beginning for Bungie to be a fairer provider.
They are actively pushing solo players away. Somehow they even found a way to push the golden tricorn 3 player Fireteam up. The Dual Destiny absolutely was idiotic, my 3 man friend group hit that mission and saw one of us needed to leave. Idiotic. And no matchmaking, must have comms etc etc Solo players are not welcome in destiny
Watching Bungie’s downfall over the last several years has been a wild trip. I stopped playing D2 before Lightfall. Occasionally I still follow “Bungie news” because this entire ordeal is morbidly fascinating. 🍿
@@tsevgamesalot Yep. My husband tried quitting for ages but I wanted to stick it out until the end. Witch Queen was pretty good, but the seasons that followed weren’t really to our liking, storywise and otherwise. I told him that I wanted to wait and see what the reviews say about Lightfall before we blow any more money on a gaming company that doesn’t seem to respect our time or money. Once the reviews came out, we said our goodbyes to a game we played since September 2014-we’ve played since the day it came out. I remember how excited everyone used to be when they went to GameStop to get their copies they preordered. I remember getting our copies and passersby asking if the item in my bag was the new Destiny game. I haven’t heard anything remotely exciting from people since then. Destiny could have been great. It had a lot of potential. I even have a TON of Destiny paraphernalia because I am, admittedly, a huge fan. But it is what it is, now. Some of the people behind the game ate it up and spat it out without the courtesy of swallowing.
Idk how people think TFS was a success when people only bought the expansion to finish off the story an then quit so many people did that they quit with TFS since bungie basically admitted its the end.
Bungie never admitted that “it’s the end”. It was the end of the light and darkness saga but not the end of destiny which they reiterated many times. Also, to me TFS was a success since it had a great story, raid, quests, and location. Saying it’s not a success just because people bought it to finish the story isn’t really the expansions fault. The expansion itself was very well received regardless of why people bought the expansion.
@@TooGoodDynamoeveryone keeps saying it’s so great but is has the least amount of retention of destiny expansions. Which screams to me isn’t as good as people say it is.
@@Austin-l1j what’s there to do after completing the expansion? This retention dip is people stopping to play since the light and darkness saga is over. Nothing to do with the expansion being bad or whatnot. Just no more content lol
Yah, especially when you compared the pre order sale, the Final shape barely cracked over 1 mill. Lightfalls poor sentiment probably took atleast 1 mill pre orders away from it.
Problem is Destiny isn't like Halo, it's a live service game that people have put thousands of hours into and don't want to stop playing anytime soon. Halo was a great campaign and fun pvp, but it wasn't meant to be played exclusively for years, and the Bungie made ones didn't get dlc. And also unlike with Halo most Destiny players aren't intrested in moving to, or even trying out, Marathon like Halo players were with Destiny. We want DESTINY content, not some stupid fucking extraction shooter that's apparently a hero shooter now as well. They're taking our hobby away that we are 1000% willing to pay them for and saying screw you guys we want that younger Fortnight crowd. They're spitting in the faces of the very people who pay their bills and are funding that piece of shit abomination of a game Marathon. I feel they have an obligation to the people who keep the lights on, the hardcore players, just as much as their investors to keep making quality content. And when they abondand and screw over their loyal players they're also screwing over their investors, and Sony, by not hitting revenue targets and losing millions which in turn screws over the devs doing all the actual work who get laid off a day before maternity leave and a few weeks b4 their stock vests. Ppl might say they don't owe their players anything as we got what we paid for and can make what they want but I say in that case either give, or sell, the IP to another studio or fucking leave and go work somewhere else/start a new studio with the millions they made from the Sony buyout. They DO have an obligation to the paying customers as the game is marketed as an on-going live service instead of a single contained experience. Ppl bought in with the expectation that development would continue at the same rate and quality as it had from the start. You don't just get bored after marketing it that way and abandon everyone without repercussions and backlash. This isn't a case like Anthem or more recently Concord where the execution was so bad no one played it, Destiny had at first millions, then hundreds of thousands of dedicated players all spending money. It is a major success and they are just throwing that all away for greed(and maybe bordem) cause a few billion isn't enough, they want hundreds of billions. If they're not gonna focus on Destiny anymore and reverse course and are dedicated to this Marathon shit then I hope it blows up in their faces and is even more poorly recieved than even Concord. I do feel for the devs who would lose their jobs, but if nothing changes then I'd already be looking for another job if I worked there, especially after this last year of layoffs and broken promises.
They haven't gotten lazier: the shear size increase, like with many other AAA studios recently, causes them to be WAY less efficient, taking WEEKS of work by DOZENS of people to fix simple bugs. Combined with the fact that they got so bloated so quickly BECAUSE of corporate greed: "Hey, if we hire twice as many people, we'll get twice as much profits!" without knowing how to run a company of that size. Let alone how to make *1300* people work fluidly on a SINGLE creative vision.
Never seen a game have such a lack of vision for the future than Destiny 2. The sheer potential this IP had was inconceivable, but they somehow dropped the ball
The absolute boneheaded decisions over the last decade needs to be studied heavily. The incompetence is bloody amazing , it is a miracle this game was a success at all , they literally gutted the golden goose slowly over the years .
Bungie is insane if they think Marathon can become there new Cash Cow like Destiny is. Destiny when it came out was breaking new ground and had a style of gameplay that few to no other games had aside from MMOs and other ideas borrowed from them. Marathon is entering the extraction shooter genre, a genre that already has established and good games in it and is pretty oversaturated. Even if the game is great, its doubtful it will do as good as Destiny does. Bungie needs to either vastly improving destiny 2, or just commit to a destiny 3 at this point. Preferably both. As for Marathon, a change in course from extraction shooter would be preferred.
d2 is dying, warframe is going up and up. trust me people i tried warframe the first time a month ago thanks to the final shape and the first descendent and yeah - we have ALL been playing the WRONG game.
Definitely, the new questlines are crazy good. The quests start to get REALLY good at “second dream” and beyond. The early quests aren’t as good tho (mainly just because they’re older ngl) At least there’s a new player experience unlike *other* games
I said this years ago but my friends decided to stick with destiny. Now they complain about there being nothing to good to play while playing d2, overwatch, and xenoverse 2 lmao
Marathon is gonna flop so badly. I'm glad... I know it sounds bad but I'm glad because that way Bungie will have to get back to D2 and make it better for once. If Sony allows them to do so, of course.
Join the Tenno, in Warframe, guardians. Warframe has a higher player count than Destiny 2. What you're missing: melee weapons, the best movement ever, better character customization, you actually get to be inside your ship (which you can customize), space/underwater combat, dogfighting in space, pilotable mech suits, a robot/dog/cat companion, some of the best plot twists in gaming, a modding system that First Descendant completely copied for their game, and... ...all the content is free. You can even earn the premium currency, in-game. Like Helldivers 2.
Warframe is a game changer, my gaming life was changed for 4 years when I swopped d2 curse of osiris to warframe. Ended up racking 11k hours in warframe and left when the reprised Kings fall came out....boy bungie and destiny is so outdated and clunky when comparing the 2 games.
@@KeanuChrist sure let me play a game that has damn near no good challenging endgame content, hours long crafting times to get literally anything, repetitive mission design. Oh yes so much. Better

@@snickerdoge4903 It's kinda hard to make a difficult endgame when most players with a little bit of knowledge can make set ups that hit damage cap with ease and kill most enemies before they even come into the same room as you. EliteDeepArchemedian is cool and all but it's not fun since the difficulty comes from the debuffs that the mission throw at you making the game near unplayable if you have all of them for the best rewards especialy when the missions roll some bullshit modifiers. I agree with you about the lack of endgame but I think DE is also trying to figure it out themselves since most people above MR20 are like a mini Saitama killing everything
@@ancientgeargolem9843 Cool, i understand incarnon adapters and damage multipliers are beyond broken and can hit damage cap with enough stacks, the game literally cannot be powercreeped because you are quite literally doing maximum damage then there are 1 of 2 options 1. Add *actual* mechanics to a difficult activity that are unique to them, not just replicate normal gamemodes, per say a mechanic in which only 1 player can tell you in what order you have to destroy x thing to force player interaction and fast thinking. 2. Cap the amount of damage an enemy can receive, they did it with all 3 fragmented bosses and the fragmented one superboss... i dont see why they just could make certain enemies have a cap on how much damage they can take or have insane amount of unstrippable armor. My point is, Warframe and DE can do it, they just dont do it.
D1 day 3 (had to wait for Amazon to deliver my physical limited edition copy) player here, this is the only game I've played in the last 10 years and as you mentioned in the video it's been an amazing experience. You have absolutely nailed the state of the game and how it got here in this video with your commentary. I commend you! Remarkable insight into what's happened and why. I have no idea what to play now and it sucks........PS the ending got my teary eyed, lol.....Thank you Divide.
I found my way back into Warframe a few weeks ago. Started playing in 2017 but then had a longer break in between. Now I'm back and interacting with the game and it's community has kinda opened my eyes regarding Destiny. The content structure and ingame systems are incredibly dated. It needs a genuine overhaul and modernisation. A new interpretation of what Destiny as a game is. Otherwise it will never fully heal. It needs bold ideas, the courage to risk things for the longterm betterment of the game or community, monetisation needs to be streamlined and reworked. Unless these things happen, unfortunately, Destiny will keep dying or stagnating, no matter how much "work" Bungie may put in.
I knew bungie was bad but I was pretty addicted and invested into destiny 2. But I tried the first descendant on release and after couple weeks it opened my eyes to bad bungie is. All my destiny friends have left for first descendant and all love it as well as myself. It’s so nice to have developers who listen and fix things fast. Who don’t let bugs sit for months. Who don’t nerf literally anything good.
Brother huh? The First Descendent is rather rough to say the least. Check out Warframe if you want a company to actually respect you without folding in 7 months flat.
@alaskayoung3413: yes me too with the destiny investment part, as saturnspawn states try warframe, atm im playing first descendant and yes its fun but if u want first descendant on steroids and totally free and wanna play a game for a few yrs give it a go dude its a game/developer mindset changer.. ive 11k hours in warframe when i swopped from curse of osiris coz d2 was boring thrn and hasnt changed much since. Even Mactics has switched to warframe.
Bungie used to have this thing called "30 seconds of fun". Now it seems like they forgot what that even is. And don't give me the "overdelivery" excuse crap.
Solstice 2018: Peak armor, Peak replayability. Since then they were like, hmmm let's make it 10x worse every year, this year I spoke to Eva and left when I saw wtf they did to earn the armor 💀💀🤡🤡
Destiny to bungie is like those lottery winners you hear about going broke after a year. The game is a unique gem that is, unfortunately, being killed by bungie's greed and mismanagement. Love the content❤
This is off-topic, GREAT VIDEO BTW 😊, but I just wanted to say you have an awesome soothing voice for a youtube content creator. Keep up the good work!
I’m surprised you didn’t mention Warframe, which is arguably Destiny’s biggest competitor. WF’s doing well and, like Destiny, has ups and downs, but is often looked at as “the better game”. At the very least, your time is more respected, it’s truly free and DE is more player-friendly. I was all-in for Destiny and my desire and goodwill for it and Bungie have eroded to nearly nothing.
I miss shadowkeep era. Lots of fresh installs (myself included) and f2pers actually had something to do. 3 campaigns 24 hours combined, nightfalls that actually posed a challenge, pvp with free trials of Osiris, leviathan raid and 2 raid lairs, lots of guns to go after.
6:51 The Graviton Lance buff, The Immortal, and Cloudstrike in pvp definitely lead to a lot of people stop playing. It was like the prismatic hunter fiasco we have now but every class could use it.
They are not going lazy man. It’s obvious and it’s clear that they have been over stretching for years and that’s what has made Bungie waste and lose so much money and time! Extremely bad management. This is the reality. What made Bungie successful in the past was when they had the dad ( Microsoft, Activision) watching over them, making the decisions in a more clinical way. As soon as Bungie was on their own they starting F up! They started been arrogant, cocky, making the wrong decisions about Destiny and over reaching into multiple projects, over hiring, HQs, etc. The only thing that kept them afloat was the loyal Destiny players and community but then they 💩 on them when Bungie say “ we will stop over delivering”, sun setting content, and just using recycle content over recycle content, year after year. They should have invested that time and money in a D3 at some point! It’s too late for that now. People love Destiny more than Bungie does. It’s sad and very disappointing that they have killed the game that gave them so much! Now it’s all up to Sony because Bungie is no more.
Problem with bungie is its ceos. All the old guard have left which really had the core experience and talent. When they left , its just turned into shit. No talent at all.
My Tell tale sign was when Bungie started talking to us like they were Cult Leaders knowing most Destiny fans are super invested, 2nd one was when Bungie decided to completely ignore the pvp community and basically let its child die by suffocation i was one of those who really enjoyed pvp but overtime we can all agree it became a toxic experience, bro when i saw that i was like yeah this is not gonna end well great vid
Un-sunset the weapons but what about the content I paid for and what about all the old rolls I had to delete because destinyhas over 1000 weapons and what 600 vault spaces
Halo was fantastic, until they left it with Microsoft and 343, Destiny is (was) fantastic, until they eventually leave it with Sony and... whoever to ruin it more. I guess they want Marathon to be their next biggest hit for 10 years.
Destiny would be better off without Bungie. They screwed the game multiple times and many great things in the game weren't even developed by then. Bungie has dug its grave and that's good news for the franchise
As a casual Destiny player who quit 3-4 years ago, I appreciate videos like this made by creators who actually know what they're talking about. You named weapons I've never seen and items and events I never played. I can trust the information because it's in-depth enough for me to know you actually played a lot of Destiny 2. It sucks to see this game die the way it has because it started with great bones.
This happened because they started focusing on woke, SJW, and DEI politics. They stopped caring about good content and the actual player base due to Identity politics. Shame on you Bungie. Focus on game content and not worthless identity politics.
I'll never forget the first time I booted up destiny in 2014 on my xbox one, the curiosity I felt during the first cutscene with the speaker, I remember my first time trying to run a raid on my own and it was all in for me with destiny, played through each raid and got destiny 2 the day it came out too, I felt the same curiosity going to the farm for the first time, seeing no land beyond held by Devrim Kay, as time went the game kept feeling more and more empty, bungie, if you're reading this, I genuinely hope that your next project has and keeps the same curiosity feeling your games have given me in the past, all while mowing down hoardes of aliens
Most Disgraceful Years of all Video game history, this drought over live service games has seriously messed with everything People have a brand new ps5 Or series X and what’s to play?! Free to play that’s what. Gosh all this power and nothing to play!!!! Am I taking Crazy pills over here?!!!!
You are crazy, there’s still plenty of good games to play, just open your eyes, plus imo destiny y 2 with the last shape dlc is in the best position it’s been when it comes to new content, since maybe the witch dlc.
@@imsentinelprime9279 Got them Bot vibes , 100% you’re playing free to play multiplayer game that’s a good amount of the everyday player base, not dishing on good single player games just these live service games have been messing with everything.
My Copy Pasta for D2 content till they give us our money spent expansions back:- I joined Destiny 2 when New Light came out and it went free, I liked the game and so I brought all the expansions up till New Light. I love farming and collecting and chasing after loots so I rushed through the missions in order to unlock Raids and get Exotics for collection, all the while thinking that I would just replay missions on my other character later on. Then came Sunsetting, all the loots that I collected gone, EXPANSIONS THAT I PURCHASED gone, every new loot had expire on it (I know it's reverted now, but dmg is done already), all of this just killed my interest in game. I came back in Beyond Light to try and play with new Stasis and I enjoyed it, but I didn't knew Cayde lore before and when I came back, I wanted to play it without rushing, but I literally could not play the thing THAT I PAID FOR! Now tell me what reason do I have to give my money to these devs and buy a game with expire date on it, that too after getting scammed and losing the expansions I spent money on?!
Are people just ignoring the fact that despite two sets of layoffs there’s currently more people working at Bungie than there was before the Sony acquisition? Yes, Destiny is very stale. It’s 10 years old, of course it’s stale. I don’t know why everything needs to be so doom and gloom all the time. I still remember when cod “died” with infinite warfare.
I'm not sure a Destiny 3 would even save Bungie at this point. It's like they took a page out of Blizzard's playbook. Destiny is dying the same way Overwatch did, due to a lack of commitment from the devs and letting the game get too stale for too long. Bungie took a big bet on Marathon and if it doesn't pay off it could mean lights out for Destiny as well. We should at least be glad we made it this far, because if Sony hadn't stepped in to save Bungie, we may not have even ever gotten The Final Shape.
I've started playing warframe and find myself running into similar problems. I HATE GRINDING. It's not playing. It's not having fun. It's work. At the end of d1 I just played pvp. Everyday. I didn't care what loot I got. I just played and had fun. I havent had that feeling in a game really since. Every game has this time sink of sucking life from you and I have too limited time for that shit anymore.
You didn’t mention the non stop woke storylines, this season has gay, lesbian and trans. Last season gay. Before that another gay and non binary. Then back to warmind lesbian etc etc … On top of the Bungie made a big deal of hiring and promoting people based solely on sexuality and skin colour.. This is pandering of the worst kind and the game has suffered alot
Adamantly, emphatically disagree with dunking on crafting. This game already disrespects my time, given the absurd time sink of live service games. To imply we should spend more time grinding feeds further into Bungie’s negative perception: “demands it’s the only game players play.”
Bungie are letting destiny die off because they are likely obliged to Sony to support/grow it legally so they can’t deliberately abandon it but rather let it fade out
I miss the feeling of just running around Nessus, doing faction rally stuff and marveling the sight in front of me. Now for the last 2-3 years even the slightest misshaps annoy the living shit out of me. Get stuck in the smallest step there is while you're on low hp? I'm ready to throw the keyboard out of the window. So I have decided to move on, things like that put me in so bad mood and really bring the worst out of me. There's so little joy it brings anymore, in fact there is none it gives anymore. I clock around ~6k hours in D2, but last year I have total 10 hours played. Not once have I played a game where the studio does something new, they take 1 step forward and 2 steps backwards, year after year.
Reminder that the entirety of Reddit celebrated Bungie splitting from the big bad Activision like it was the second coming of christ back then. And if you showed ANY concern about a decline in their output post-split you'd get downvoted and flamed to oblivion.
I joined with D2 vanilla and was glad I stuck around. Every season, every expansion every high and every low. A lot of great memories and good times. My only regret was not joining the Guardians sooner with D1 vanilla. After the final shape everything has just felt different. I think what really killed the game was leaning further into the live service model versus the model they had with D2 vanilla and D1 with a few expansions a year. Crazy how you can still go back and play all content in D1 but not D2.
bungies downfall started during the halo era with Microsoft instilling their corporate views into their studio heads. watch Marty's interview with the act man and he goes into depth on how the gradual corruption of the studio began.

"This isn't the usual sort of video I do"
yeah no shit, coz you're the typical surface-skimming type of content creator who covers store updates, new stuff mentioned in patches etc.
Ladies and gentlemen, it was an honor to fight alongside you.
And you Guardian. I had some amazing games with some great people. Those made a big difference to my playing experience.
The time me and a random pushed on and 2 manned a GM because the other bailed on us at the start was a stand out. So much fun!
There's nothing left for me here... on to greater ventures.

Why would we play Marathon if they're just going to abandon it?
I’m not playing it out of principle. If they are gonna abandon destiny when their fans are finally coming back then I’m not gonna continue to support them

@skred6792 no but considering destiny players are the reason destiny is their most successful project that's been keeping them afloat you'd expect them to treat the game and player base with more respect . Even for non destiny players, the way they're treating destiny gives the company a bad look that would make many people not want to take a chance on another project done by the same studio
I'm not playing Marathon because those sorts of shooter do not appeal to me at all.
Funny how all three major publisher had issues with Bungie's lack of content output all while Bungie complained about being over worked.
All their mmo competitors crank out content at almost double the rate. Even Sony is pissed they can't hit their benchmarks.
This should be strike three for Bungie. I'm surprised PlayStation Studios hasn't confiscated the IP from them yet.
They should team up with Mojang and join the "AAA devs who are too lazy to do more than one thing a year" club

The raids where fckin dope. Destiny one near the end was primo. Then came destiny 2 n all the terrible decisions.
If anything this downfall was deseved

I would argue that destiny never fully recovered from the dcv and sunsetting even if they reversed sunsetting on gear

Lmao you high on copium
Same, played at launch, then came back at light fall. Didn't realize how much was taken out.
The idea that bungie will storm the extraction looter shooter genre with Marathon is whack. The genre is already so terribly burnt out no one I know plays them anymore.
And those that still do aren't leaving the established titles already there.
Plus they already have a problem with cheaters in both PvE and PvP. Now in a game like destiny where you don't lose loot when you die, cheaters are a secondary problem
In extraction shooters is a wildly different story.
To EVERYONE, do NOT play Marathon. Let it flop and die. Dont touch it even with a 15-foot pole

They dont.

@FluffyFlounders
Ha!

@@TooGoodDynamothey’ve been telling the same story for 10 years now. For all intents and purposes it’s the end. No matter what bungie thinks
Bungie needs to look at Concord to see the expectations for Marathon.
"It's been a fun ride but we're in the middle of nowhere and we have no gas, I think it's time to get out and walk away."
I see what you did there with the pic of the cars when talking about Pete Parsons. 😂
IMO the game never recovered from the D2 launch and was never as alive as it was in D1.
The final Shape was a car this whole time
Or maybe it's a PlayStation logo. Because Bungie might currently be defenseless against a hostile takeover by PlayStation Studios.
5:25 ngl i hear smelldivers lol
Same
d2 is dying, warframe is going up and up.
trust me people i tried warframe the first time a month ago thanks to the final shape and the first descendent and yeah - we have ALL been playing the WRONG game.
I hopped on warframe during curse of Osiris
Definitely, the new questlines are crazy good. The quests start to get REALLY good at “second dream” and beyond. The early quests aren’t as good tho (mainly just because they’re older ngl)
At least there’s a new player experience unlike *other* games
I said this years ago but my friends decided to stick with destiny. Now they complain about there being nothing to good to play while playing d2, overwatch, and xenoverse 2 lmao
I have over 1000 hours in warframe and we definitely aren't playing the "wrong game". 😂😂😂😂
I just got back into Warframe. Have a lot of OG Prime frames and weapons. Just been running though all the content I've missed over the years.
This was a great video. Can tell you put a lot of work into this ggs
Better
Warframe is not going to replace Destiny until they add actual, meaningful endgame content. Destiny is hard carried by Raids, Warframe just does not have anything that comes close to a raid...
@@ancientgeargolem9843 Cool, i understand incarnon adapters and damage multipliers are beyond broken and can hit damage cap with enough stacks, the game literally cannot be powercreeped because you are quite literally doing maximum damage then there are 1 of 2 options
10 years and 4,000hrs, I've had a good time but it's over for me. I don't care anymore.
@@ElrondKaresh I'm probably quitting until d3
The best thing about Warframe is it doesn't attract the toxic, man baby, jocks like Destiny does.
I recently jumped to Warframe and it is unbelievable.
Bro first descendant is highkey worse than d2 in most aspects. Its literally a gatcha game. Like nah.
@@Jonny_Nemo 4 yrs straight I played warframe, left at curse of Osiris and returned to d2 with reprised Kings fall. What a bad move

Sad, but true
To all my fellow Guardians, it was a pleasure teaming up with you. Met 100s of amazing people on Destiny and it was one hell of a ride.
The CEO is a part of the problem. The board needs to be restructured as it’s badly in need over oversight/supervision
Agreed. Parsons needs to be replaced with someone loyal to PlayStation Studios.
D1 > D2 almost everyone I knew fell off in D2 including myself
OP: An excellent video! GGs++
The Aztecross Reacts in this one gonna go crazy 😑
This is off-topic, GREAT VIDEO BTW 😊, but I just wanted to say you have an awesome soothing voice for a youtube content creator. Keep up the good work!
I’m surprised you didn’t mention Warframe, which is arguably Destiny’s biggest competitor. WF’s doing well and, like Destiny, has ups and downs, but is often looked at as “the better game”. At the very least, your time is more respected, it’s truly free and DE is more player-friendly.
I was all-in for Destiny and my desire and goodwill for it and Bungie have eroded to nearly nothing.
Is it really that respectful when I have to wait 72 hours to get a new frame
started playing warframe and it feels so much more rewarding to play none of my time feels wasted AND everything is free
@@imsentinelprime9279yes. Because you can use any frame and have fun.

Warhammer releases in 9 days...R.I.P Destiny
I haven’t even bothered with solstice this time. 12:08
Problem with bungie is its ceos. All the old guard have left which really had the core experience and talent. When they left , its just turned into shit. No talent at all.
"left". pretty sure most of them were forced out.
8:40 I agree. It's clear because armor needed a rework years ago and they just keep adding weapons. Smh
It's always hilarious watching the "pro" d2 pvpers try to run halo lobbies and get sent packing back to safety of destiny lobbies.

My Copy Pasta for D2 content till they give us our money spent expansions back:-
I joined Destiny 2 when New Light came out and it went free, I liked the game and so I brought all the expansions up till New Light.
It's time we let Destiny go. I've had 10 fun years playing this, and it's past its prime.
Bungie are letting destiny die off because they are likely obliged to Sony to support/grow it legally so they can’t deliberately abandon it but rather let it fade out
This was well put together dude
I played destiny from the early days and I will continue to do so until they go offline 😔
The game literally feels like its on a death spiral, the servers are empty.
thing is marathon will be a batle royal, most people dont play battle royals. It is a niche game genre, that not many people like.
All of those memories and hardwork are ruined just for a couple of "USED CARS", damn i love Pete Parson, guy is a menace.
Reminder that the entirety of Reddit celebrated Bungie splitting from the big bad Activision like it was the second coming of christ back then. And if you showed ANY concern about a decline in their output post-split you'd get downvoted and flamed to oblivion.
Yeah absolutely nothing changed for the better. Acting like Activision was holding them back when the problem was at Bungie to begin with.
The Destiny community in a complete nutshell. Just 'la-la-la I can't hear you'.
Where is my forsaken expansion? I bought it,I played it and it's not there anymore.
It would really be funny if Sony sold Bungie back to ActivisionXbox.
