For those with a push button start rather than a key, hold the button in with your foot off the brake until the lift pump starts. Once the lift pump kicks on it’ll run for a bit and shut itself off. Once was enough. The engine fired up like normal.
The black stuff (actually brown) on the filter and in the bowl will be there no matter what fuel you use. It's caused by common rail and is called asphaltenes. The fuel is heated by the HPFP and by cycling through the injectors and back into the tank, and that causes it to degrade into microscopic particles. The particles are soft tar so they don't hurt anything, they just get caught in the filter. A lot of people wrongly think it's algae contamination and waste time with biocides, which are bad for your engine.
Thanks for the vid. That's a lot easier than my 2016 GMC 2500 where you had to pull the ps front wheel and inner fender
Thanks for making. Got a 2023 3500 and can’t find any information in my manual or duramax book supplant on location or procedure. Ridiculous. Looks to be the same procedure for my international semi trucks as well. Thanks!
Bet the inner cap is to reduce the amount of vacuum off the filter housing allowing it to spin much easier
Thanks for making this!
Yes sir!
Much love thanks a bunch!
Very helpful! Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Great video! You referenced some fuel additives that you add every other fill up and every oil change. Can you share what you add and when? Thanks!
Thanks Evan! They’re hot shot secrets EDT (everyday diesel treatment) and they’re diesel extreme at every oil change. They help and I can see my mileage increasing in between regens. I don’t do the edt every tank but maybe every 2-3
Hey, great video I had the same truck I was wondering what size rims and tires are running on it I was wanting to do 20 x 9 if it 35s but I don’t wanna have to really lift because that’s my daily driver I do construction. So what size rims and tires are you running and what is the opposite? Thanks so much I appreciate it.
Thanks Jason. They’re 20x9 with a +12 offset. I had the stock tires on in this video but you can run 35’s with little/no rubbing. Stock tire size is 34” anyway so 35 is not a huge difference. I currently run 37’s with a 3.5” lift and it rubs, I’ll be downsizing to 35” next
If you start to get the P0191 error code dealing with fuel rail pressures, even if your fuel filter says 20% remaining life, change it - that is primarily the problem.
I have the “Service water in fuel” warning. I took the water plug off, the T-30. Some water did come out, I put it back on, warning popped up again. So I have taken and put it back on several times, water dripping out every time. I am wondering if you don’t leave it off and idle the engine? Your thoughts?
So only so much will come out when you pull that plug, it creates a vacuum in that filter housing. I would completely remove/drain/prime it again and see if that solves it. If not, you might be pulling water from your tank/pump and your fuel source could be an issue
I was so happy to see GM relocate the filter to a practical location & ditch the sensor wire.. you have a knob on the guage cluster to scroll the menu? Wierd, i have a 21 custom, i use the steering wheel buttons
Agreed, never did the one on my ‘15 lml but I heard it sucked. These are so easy and convenient. H&S makes an aluminum housing too if the plastic does plastic things
Good job, keep those fuel injector clean
Thanks for watching!
Tank's
Hello! Please, could you ask a question? Does the 6.6 Duramax Diesel version also have a fuel filter? Or just the gasoline version? Thanks!
Yes both have fuel filters. Harder, diesel motors require more filtration (dirtier fuel, higher fuel pressure, etc.) so you have to change them more often. With gas motors it’s much less frequent as the gasoline is inherently cleaner and the fuel pressure required for injection is not nearly that of common rail diesel motors you see now.
Can I change the filter with a full tank ? Will I have excessive fuel drainage? Also , did you pour fuel onto the filter or did you install it dry ? I heard you say the you lubed the o-rings with fuel.
Thank you
Fuel tank level will have no effect on changing your fuel filter. The only fuel that will come out is in the bowl itself.
Install it dry and prime it as I showed by cycling your key (foot off brake) to all accessory power 3-5 times to purge the system. The motor will take longer to start but that’s normal as fuel builds pressure all the way thru the system.
You can use fuel on the O rings or an O ring specific lubricant. Fuel is fine tho
How does the air purge out!??? Obviously on the older duramax there is a air valve
Whats the average mileage between fuel filter changes on these 15k? Do you wait for the dummy light to come on the dash so to speak or does the owner manual specify a mileage amount?
Owners manual has maintenance intervals based on normal or severe use. I use my life % on my dash as a guide, but sooner the better as alwasy
I got about 14k. I need to change it
Is it just one fuel filter? New to gmc I got a 2022 as well. I was told there are two fuel filters on some other trucks
Yup just 1 on 2020+. Pretty nice and they make it easy. No more double filters with one by the tank and one under the hood, although with diesel, more filtration isn’t bad
How do you prime with no key? I have a push to start ...
Keep foot off brake and turn on all accessory power a few times. For touch to start it should be 2 press without brakes and then again to turn off power
Yo man did u prime it? How do u do that on a push to start
I mean I did key on and engine off but I couldn't hear it priming
Keep your foot off the brake, key all the way on without cranking it over, wait 10-15 seconds. Do that 4-5 times and you should be good
@@aslife3813 okay wasn't sure, I couldn't hear it prime like normal. Worked on one today and just wanted some assurance on the fuel pressure 😂 thanks
Thanks for this video I had my oil changed at Walmart and offer to pay them to install my fuel filter but they wouldn’t do it 🤷♂️ so here we go.
@@chandlertorres8272 I just went through this for the first time. Had to hold the button in for about 10 seconds and then it’ll start the lift pump. Just pushing it on then off a few times won’t start the pump. This was on a 2022.
Wow that's really low mileage I've got a 2022 that I bought in March and I already have 41,000 on it
How much diesel came out.. any need to unplug batteries?
Nope no need to pull the negatives. You’re not pulling any sensors or messing with wiring. Very little, just what’s in the bowl so a few cups I think
@@aslife3813 just did it TY 😊
is there just one fuel filter on the Duramax?
Yes sir, the convenience almost makes up for the valve body on the Allison taking a shit and losing your truck for a month…
What’s the torque spec on the T30 Torx?
I’d have to check don’t know off hand but it’s plastic so nothing crazy if you use your hand wrench
@@aslife3813 copy that, just don’t want to over-tighten and strip and or under tighten and leak.
Dealer charged a FULL hour labor on this today before I took the time to look it up. UGGGH Criminals.
Easy job but any shop will charge their minimum for this. It’s insane
2 pack on amozon is $20
U worried about dirty your concrete when u have patches everywere
