      @danny355 2 роки тому +2

      Some of the details of this story are being mis-remembered by Dave I believe, for a start there's no way they had a SNES in late 1990. The Japanese version (Super Famicom) came out in November 1990 but it was hard to get hold of one even in Japan and importing it to the US would have been hardcore and very expensive. There were probably a couple hundred Super Famicoms in the USA in 1990, all owned by rich, hardcore gamers! I'm 99.9% sure they were playing Super Mario on the NES, probably Super Mario 3, which was new out at the time. Lastly, Kurt bought his Nintendo with his publishing advance in 1990, IIRC he got $1000. This is different from the $400 managment payment Dave is talking about.

    Damn, this morning I've just been invigorated with two shining icons of my 90's childhood: Nirvana and Nintendo. I've been a PlayStation fan boy for the past 25 years, so I'd like to think that if Kurt lived longer, he would have gotten a PlayStation and he would have gotten deep into Final Fantasy 7 like I did. If he did I would think that Kurt would have preferred Aeris more than Tifa.
    Edit: three corn dogs for $0.99??? Anyone remember McDonald's cheeseburgers for only $0.29 on Sundays??? Yeah I certainly remember the 90s and it was certainly better in every aspect (the only exceptions being the internet and free internet porn).

    Another wrong story in Grohl's book. SNES was released on August 23, 1991, the day Nirvana played the Reading festival. When they returned to the states, Kurt had been evicted from his Olympia apartment and Grohl hadn't been living with him for months. So it's impossible they played Super Mario World.

    I wonder, if Kurt was born as a millennial or Gen Z. Same upbringing and events happened to him up until he starts to play guitar, I wonder whether he would have still been famous.
    Like if he played Super Mario all night, i could imagine him doing the same for modern games. Would modern technology taken him away from learning guitar? Since today, there is alot of distractions, (right now, I could be drawing but I'm here typing this)
    Like I imagine he was bored, so he played his guitar until he got good. But would the distractions of today be a detriment for him on his journey to make Nirvana? Would he even had the same impact as he did in the 90s?
    Thinking about this motivates to create stuff. Kurt is an inspiration for me, even though I don't play guitar, I just draw. I even started to use less and less technology just so I could be bored and draw. It's helped a bit, but still the distractions are too hard to get rid of. So that's why I wonder where he would still have made Nirvana if he was a millennial or Gen Z.

    Sorry to be the pendant of the month but there's no way they were playing Super Mario World in 1990, or early 91. The SNES was released in the USA in August 1991 and although Japan had it in November 1990, I doubt Kurt had an imported Super Famicom, which would have required an elaborate setup to make work on the US power supply. Most likely a NES playing Super Mario 3, mis- remembered by Dave, who doesn't strike me as a massive gamer. Pendant over and out...
