Oggi 3 marzo sono 12 anni che il grandissimo Pippo ci ha lasciato per le conseguenze della nota aggressione , ma noi lo ricordiamo sempre per le sue meravigliose , uniche doti che ci hanno sempre accompagnato.... Quante e quante volte Pippo Di Stefano ha interpretato il ruolo di Mario Cavaradossi con la splendida ed unica voce, con i suoi filati , la sua mezza voce indimenticabile riscaldando il pubblico presente fino all'esplosione finale costringendo Pippo Cavaradossi a bissare.. Sempre!!!!!

This man is phenomenal. The music composed by Puccini is a clear statement that God exists. No man regardless of how much they study can compose something like this unless they are directly inspired by God. This music is divine. Di Stefano does justice to the piece through his phenomenal delivery. Bravo Puccini!!! Bravo Di Stefano!!!
Wrong. A statement is not evidence. If a god did exist, dogs would have a longer life span! Dog life spans are to short so there is your evidence god does not exist and Puccini was simply a genius.

Wow. Giuseppe di Stefano had a beautiful voice in all registers. The tender mezza voce, pianissimo diminuendo to the powerful and passionate crescendo. Sustains the “o” in “tanto.” An appropriate, moving sobb on the “La vita.”

I haven't listened to di Stefano in a long time, and even though I would tell anyone who asked (although no-one's asked lately ;) that he was the best, this served as a spine-tingling reminder why. Such an artist. People can go on and debate the merits of Corelli vs. Bjoerling vs. Del Monaco vs. Domingo vs. Pavarotti for technique and tone--and you can't judge personal preference in the latter--but di Stefano, aside from the beauty of his voice, was an artist--that's what the mezza voce and diminuendo were used in service of.

Yes, but the great Placido Domingo, apart from great singing, has always been a very invaluable artist and had a musicianship, which simply cannot be surpassed even by the great Di Stefano. Just listen to Domingo's version of "E luce van le stelle" - that is the best one.

+Jon Laan I've heard a couple of live recordings of DiStefano and Callas singing Lucia -- the one they sell on CD isn't the better one. The other one I heard on vinyl was like his best "on" day ever. Absolutely definitive recording, I can't seem to find it online...
