I remember watching you when you were a student fishing. I started fishing in the 60s so I followed you since you’ve started and I wondered if you were still fishing ,and I’ve just come across your UA-cam channel I still have a book of yours which my wife bought me one Christmas years ago the only problem now is I’ve got a back log of you UA-cam to watch tight lines, Henry George, the old man in Stoke 👍😂🎣🎣
In the naming convention of bass fisherman that’s a CHONK! Lovely fishing Henry. You deserve it! All the fishing, the time spent at the waters edge and timeless hours in the winter months it was bound to happen. 😊 top work bud. Keep slaying
such a fish!! i dont know if its the same for you but ive noticed the water as far back as feb seems way warmer than it normally is, my seatrout are about in way better numbers than normal
Henry, thanks for yet another amazing video. I took up bass fishing in Jan ‘24 - probably the worst time of the year for bass fishing! I’ve fished all my life, and caught carp to 60lb+, but I’ve been totally inspired by your videos and fishing for bass. I love fishing with minimal gear and not sitting in a bivvy waiting for the fish to come and find me! I’m fishing on the South Coast of England, and I’ve now had 2 bites in 21 sessions, but I did manage to land one off the shore at the end of January on a SG sand eel weedless lure. It went absolutely nuts - like a trout on steroids (!) - and that’s encouraged me to continue bass fishing despite repeated blanks. I live in hope that the fishing will improve as the weather gets warmer……….!
Outstanding, so cool to read stuff like this!!!! You have done well to land bass, it's not a great time of year and we have months of the best fishing to come. This lure fishing for bass is SO addictive, welcome to the sickness!!!!
Henry great to see you looking so well! Good to see you back out and about catching some awesome fish. That will give the ticker a good run :) take care!
A real lunker! Rich reward for your time & effort over winter.....temps are up around 10°c on the north coast so better give it a crack after seeing this.
Hoping there I’ll be many more like it this year. It’s a good start at least. It’s nice to read about your catch in your blog, and then come her to get a video too. The video gives me a better idea of the fishes size.
Fantastic fish Henry. Absolute corker. I always remember you saying "your mother was a man!!" on one of your shows😂. I sometimes use it when I lose a Salmon! Always good to see you catching.
Nice one Henry 👍 I'm almost your age and experience, things have dramatically changed up here in north wales over the years, pollack , mackerel and bass are 12 months now. Bass would traditionally only take a lure from may after the algae bloom, who knows now, I'll give it a try, had 20 mackerel and a launce last week so the food is there.
I caught a 12lb Bass in March while flattie bashing on the Lougher estuary here in Carmarthenshire. We’re loaded with Schoolies during the summer, but the specimen fish show early and late in the year.
Beautiful fish. I remember watching your videos as a kid fishing Ireland for bass with peelers. I fish Sussex coast for bass, I actually always think the big girls are book ends eg beginning of season and end. Stunning fish
Excellent silver bar Henry remember we have to go to that spot I was telling you about but we need weather to settle down hopefully nxt month I’ll be in touch when time is right 😎👍
thanks Larks...............yep, big time, plus it's been far too long since we fished together. I am so interested to talk to you more about what you see bass wise when you are out and about, I have got SO much to learn...........
Superb Henry. It was nice bumping into you at the Glasgow Angling Centre the other week - asked you if you ever fished the bombarda for bass and now I can see why you said NO 😂
Crackin fish And on lure well done , great start to your season , big Bass must been feeding this week in uk Also seen a 16lb 04. Photo caught on bait ,great fishing ,tightlines 😎🐟🇪🇸
What a great fish, congratulations. I wish that you'd weighed it though, the modern trend to measure a fish doesn't convey much to me. Just think what John Locker's record shore caught 20lb one must have looked like?
I didn't have any scales with me and my mate had a measure, I am not really bothered about how much it weighed but I do tend to agree that weights mean more to me than lengths
Never knew you had a youtube channel, ive been following ur adventure on fb but came across this video on my yt home page. Fantastic bass for the time of the year, ive had my pb bass last march from an open ocean but that was on lug worm, nowhere near the size of that beauty but always welcome fish so early in the year. Look forward to future uploads, tight lines mate 👍 🎣
Nice fish Henry plenty of bass being caught here in guernsey I was spearfishing on 26th March saw a bass well in to double figures, hopefully a good year ahead tight lines.
Con-Grats Henry what an amazing fish, hope you have more like her this year. . . . Just a question I've used a couple of bleaks 10cm on unweighted 2/0 hooks, what size n weight do you prefer. . ? Thanks for any info. . . Tight Lines 🎣
Many thanks, most kind! I am early days with these Craft Bleak lures, but for bass fishing I am thinking around 4/0 for the 10cm and 6/0 for the 12cm, both with belly-weights preferably. I need to play around with cheb-rigging them as well
Amazing! Congrats and hopefully they will get bigger as the season progresses. Would you share the model of your shoes pls? Are they wading or just waterproof ? They look like Adidas but I can't find such model online...
The lure is what I caught the bass on............ Nope, the rod is a sample I have been working on with Savage Gear. I love a Shimano reel, there is nothing like them in many respects. But for a lot of the bass fishing I do? I'll take a Slammer or an Authority from Penn with how they stand up to saltwater ingress. I don't obsess about the lightest spinning reel possible in a lot of situations.
Is march for you very early or late in the season? Is every place different. In northern spain march is more the end of the highseason. And in yoir place?
For us it's early in the season, I tend to get going around here into April...........hope you have had a good season in Spain, I love your country, it's awesome!!!!
Mint fish! I used to watch you on the fishing channels years ago class you used to fish for pollack I’ve subscribed to your channel look forward to future content I have my own channel too 🎣
Well done Henry, that fish is well deserved after your recent trials and tribulations. lovely fish that would have been a proper beast in autumn pre spawning condition.
You will have those lures sold out all over the uk and ireland now😂. Fair play for releasing. Absolute Lump of a fish. Some people will fish their life without seeing a 70+cm bass
@Henry Gilbey - YOUR MOTHER WAS MAN !! ive contacting you many times to no avail for a guided tour!!!is there any vest you can recommend thats still online!!!
Great bass there mate ,great to see your ok ,i use to follow you many years ago ,big shock to read your health scare ,so glad your all good now .👍🏻🎣

Well done mate. Absolutely cracking fish and well deserved. Nothing better than a new lure or tactic paying off, especially on the first chuck. 👍
thank you!
Great fish you didn't mention what rod you were using? Major Craft no doubt.
Very nice sample well done
Glad you like it!
Funny thing is I had some of those lures before your video come on .
Look forward to try them now .
A real lunker!
Rich reward for your time & effort over winter.....temps are up around 10°c on the north coast so better give it a crack after seeing this.

Effort reward, well done that man! 👏

Nice1 Henry, I've been thinking do I or don't I give it a go this weekend as temps still down but that's the incentive I needed 👍

What a cracking bass Henry, love the look of the new lures too 🐟🎣
There is 1000s of lures the same
Thanks 👍
of course there are, but you can only catch on what you are fishing with..........and if it works like that for me I'm going to like the lure a lot!

Wow!
12 kg ..or...12 lb?
@@tadhghayden7601 12 kg
Was that a Bass guitar?
What a fabulous fish Henry, any idea what the water temp. was?
Many thanks, and no, I don't take much notice of the water temps, I just go fishing when it feels right

Henry you need to get back shore fishing like you did years ago ago loved watching them videos mate
Have ago please
John
Thanks John, but at the moment it's lure fishing for me, it keeps me so active and I love it!
What rod is that? Looks like a Shimano Exsence Infinity. But there is a Savage Gear logo on it? Is that a Infinity copy 😮
Superb Bass, well done! What's the record?
many thanks, I am not actually sure
Nice fish
Thanks 👍
Fine advert for savage gear, Henry. Was the rod the Shamini Genos? Regards reel, i thought i was bloody heavy.. do you really rate Penn over Shimano?
The lure is what I caught the bass on............

exactly, good analogy!
Thats my dream fish tbh
Nice!water temp pls
haven't got a clue, I am not one of those anglers who subscribes to bass anglers needing specific water temperatures to come inshore etc.
Top fish Henry - another week or so on the sprats and that would go 10lb - things seem to be coming in a good six weeks earlier than usual….

Dont bend its bottom haw down so hard
We stick hooks into fish for our enjoyment, I'd worry about that more than me carefully cradling a bass before releasing it
