    Yeah, while I like the idea of the defection, it definitely seemed to happen too fast and too suddenly.

      Agreed, having read the book before playing the campaign, I suspected this was how it would turn out, but it was just too quick. For most of the campaign she is a rebel not an imperial.

      Melese Getahun - that reminds me of another issue I have, marketing. They very purposely made the trailers and such look like it was going to be a, as you said imperial perspective campaign, I may be rebel scum, but that was disappointing.
      Of course the marketing department are to blame for that one, not the people to design the game.

    Honestly, Iden Versio sounds like a pretty interesting character, and it would've been a hell of a lot more layered and developed if the campaign focused more on her years in the Empire. Her defection to the Rebellion in the game just seemed forced and rushed.

      Ciaga wey yeah. I think the big reason is because the campaign is too short and the plot was just really bad. The switch to the rebellion isn’t good because we have don’t see the horrible things she’s done to so many people. The romance between Del and Iden literally came out of nowhere.

      I think she's a great character in a bad campaign. I wouldn't say she was wasted but I would've preferred to see her in a different time period. If they wanted to make her turn to the rebels, that's fine but then make the game during the battle of Yavin or around there.

    Everything was great until the BF2 campaign happened. I dislike Operation Cinder a lot, so I don't blame Iden for disobeying it. But the defection was just wrong, went against all advertisement and her own character as shown in the Inferno Squad novel. Clearly the new canon is not 'gray' enough to depict Imperials that disagree with Operation Cinder band together to stop it. You're either a fanatic or defect to the Rebellion.

    • @Rilhon
      @Rilhon 6 років тому +29

      If memory serves, Rae Sloane did just that: she disagreed with the operation and wanted to kill Gallius Rax to regain control over the Imperial Remnant and restore the Empire's "dignity" (her motivations are more complex than that, but I don't really have the books by my side right now).

    • @hsc6310

      It's ok to serve the empire but after palpatine's death the first order really became evil space Nazis. It's understandable that iden defected but it should have been a gradual process with some heavy traumatic experience for her that makes her change her mind.

    • @JanPeverell
      @JanPeverell 6 років тому +11

      Rilhon For the most part, that sounds like Legends. Various Imperial warlords establishing their own personal kingdoms, splitting the Empire into pieces, and various leaders vying for power at the top of the "official" Empire. The canon also says that these things happened, but somehow all of it is forced into a single year from Endor to Jakku. Everything in an attempt to be different and set things up for the First Order.

    Honestly I'm pissed at Iden defecting. Not only was the defection sudden, It just made me mad that they would have such a predictable outcome that happened on like the 4th mission. I was really excited to get a story that showed the other side of things, as well as getting to blast some rebel scum, but instead I got a lazy, short, and underdeveloped campaign.

  • @Mrbluefire95

    Battlefront 2's campaign was pretty forgettable. Why we needed characters like Luke, Leia, Han and Lando to show up, I don't know. Iden was pretty meh in game too, and the trailers portrayed it as us being pro imperial and helping build the First Order. This campaign just wasn't great.

    • @r3pherade784

      I honestly would've had more fun if the whole campaign was just her staying imperial than the classic I'm working for the wrong side and I just realized it story. Well I understand why Iden left the Empire. Vardos was the planet that she was from and when the Empire used Operation Cynder on it, she became emotionally shocked over that which made her realize what the Empire has become. I know that some people don't understand why she left the Empire but I hope it gives you guys something to think about. What would you do if something like this happened in your life?

    • @GrapeJuiceCXX
      @GrapeJuiceCXX 6 років тому +4

      She definitely had limits about the Empire. In the book she couldn’t justify why the Empire killed millions of innocents in Alderaan. She had no issues with Yavin IV - only the Rebels would had died.
      She was an imperial with a heart. The Empire is the government: it’s there to protect you as a citizen.

      You’re both wrong. Lucas’ notes on 7-9 were completely unlike anything in the sequel trilogy or the Thrawn trilogy. We have never seen Lucas’ vision for the sequel trilogy, they only exist in his imagination. The Thrawn trilogy is Timothy Zahn’s vision for 7-9, the sequel trilogy is JJ Abrams’ and Rian Johnson’s. Neither resemble what Lucas personally envisioned for the trilogy, and we will likely never see his version. Let’s all just stop arguing what the “real” sequel trilogy is.

    • @ajzeg01
      @ajzeg01 6 років тому +1

      Not really. Disney threw out most of his ideas to go in their own direction. A couple things were carried over, such as having a female protagonist, but most of it was all new.

And also having to play the majority of the campaign as rebels when EA advertised a fully imperial story, it can be a frustrating.

    I would've let Iden and co. participate on the Operation Cinder on Naboo. Gideon would do it gladly but Iden and Del would do it reluctantly but they would reassure themselves that Naboo was a treacherous world. However once the Operation Cinder came to Vardos it would be too much on Iden and Del and they would defect.

    I think the story of Iden wasn't necessarily bad, I just wish the game wasn't pitched as "fight from the other side", but was something more akin to the original BFII's 501st story campaign...but meh, that's just my take on it xD

    thing is I feel like we were all lied to about the main story of this game, we were promised an imperial story because we are never told about the heroes of the empire. not since dark forces were we gunna get to play on the side of the empire for a change and they pulled a bait and switch, I enjoyed playing the main story very much up until the character switched sides. its like cant they make an interesting character that doesn't end up defecting to the rebels for once??

    Some say if only she had stayed in the empire but banded to destroy cynder from within we could have got a story where she joins Rae Sloane and the rest to scape to join the first order... I myself even thought about that.......... But I think it's totally out of character for her to be actually with the first order.... I mean Rae Sloane's intentions were good to save the empire of an imminent fall, but then the first order becomes something even worse for what the empire was...so iden's good. Maybe if she only had one more mition alone, siding with no one...
    Her defection would have felt better.

    Iden was an interesting character, until Disney messed up. First, her background story is amazing, until the creation of Inferno Squad and the dull missions they were sent on. The mere idea of having her go public like that when she's supposed to be special forces doesn't make any sense to me... Besides, she saw the destruction of Alderaan and had no problem with it. And she saw both Death Star being destroyed, with people she knew on them. Why would she have doubts just by discussing with one person? Especially a rebel? Second thing is Operation Cinder as a whole, which does not make any sense AT ALL! Stupidest plan ever, and Palpatine is definitelly not the type to do that. It does not fit the character. From there, Iden defecting was way too fast and doesn't fit the character at all. She was the kind of zealot believing that the Empire had its reason. Second, Imperial soldiers are trained to let go of attachment to their home planet in order to be solely loyal to the Empire (cf Lost Star novel).
    So she was a character with a lot of potential, the idea of having the point of view of an Imperial on everything that happened was great. But as always, Disney just ruined it...

    Do a video of what you think happens to Zay and Shriv in the outer rim. And do you think battlefront will add that? Continue Resurrection? I hope they do. They could get to like a new really pretty planet which is free from the war and plan to ask them to help the resistance but it’s swarming with stormtroopers and their could be like a load of epic battles for that bit and then some other adventurous stuff which the creators always add

  • @Drace90

    I'm pretty sure if this story had been told as a movie or book Idens turn to the Alliance would have looked very different. But this format didn't really allow for much exposition and character development. It's not even roleplaying game, really. It's an ego-shooter. There can only ever be short cutscenes between missions, taking the wind out of the storytellers sails.
    It's also notable that Iden never truly defected to the Rebel cause, she just wanted the war to end. Her turn came when she realized that the rebels were actually aiming for peace more than the Empire.
    I would have preferred there to be a "light side/dark side"-decision though like in Jedi Academy.

      spikymike123 She didn't. Iden was a Senior Lieutenant during the battle of Yavin, so I'd say the Death Star was merely the first assignment that we know of. It was the first for Thane and Ciena period. At best I suppose that Iden could have been in her third year in the academy when Thane and Ciena started her first year.

    Nice! You could maybe do something like this for all of the Star Wars characters who have died. (Telling us about their lives, backstories etc). Also, I still think the Rebels were dumb for locking Iden up in her armour, with her baton thingy, and with her helmet... I mean, didn’t they think that she could probably do something with those 2 things. I mean, armour and a helmet are 50 percent of a Imperial Trooper... (the other 50 percent is a blaster, which is also -pretty- very important to a trooper who’s going to be fighting).

  • @KrypticElement

    I do think she defected a little too soon, but the fact that she turned because the Empire attacked Vardos, is completely understandable.
