As a child in the 70s, I helped an elderly neighbor make seed tapes all winter long. We used the flour glue but used strips of single layer newspaper instead of tissue. Worked well.
Thanks for suggesting newspapers. I didn’t put mine out for recycling today; I’m definitely going to try this for planting carrots! I tried the cornstarch method and wasn’t happy. In another video, it was suggested that you use the spacing to which you think the carrots.
Hi Robin, youxould use a matchstick to pick up each seed. I do this when I sow carrot seeds onto wet kitchen towel that is placed inside a plastic tub. I put the lid on a leave them to germinate then, plant them into small holes in the compost to carry on growing. No need to thin out as im the same as you, dont like to thin out. Great idea for people who like to use trips. Lots of good advice. Thanks for sharing and take care 🙂
Thank you, Janette! I noticed it on a seed company's menu and was amazed at how few seeds there are for the money. I had to work out how to make some and just had to share.
I only recently learned about seed tape. I've watched a few videos on DIY, but yours is my favorite! Spring has just started, but im out of time for preparing fresh beds. But, this will be great for my medicine garden next year!
Oh I'm so glad it was helpful to you! I used my carrot seed tape last year and it certainly helped me keep them the right distance apart - I didn't even have to thin them out - which is great, because I'm not a good thinner-outter! 😊
@@bristolveggiebeds5310 I'm not a thinner-outter of veg (I know I should do it but I hate killing stuff that's growing). So I'm going to use this system for carrots, spring onions, and beetroot next season. Maybe more but definitely those. I know I'll still have to thin a bit, but maybe a little later when I can use the leaves in salads so it doesn't feel quite as wasteful. 😁
i had 53 varieties of carrots last season. For every variety i had 10 rows à 150cm ( 3x50cm). If i would have done it, like you show it, i would still working on it. 😉 But the idea is good, no question. If you do it every 2,5cm it works perfectly... 👍
Wow! You have your own carrot factory there! I reckon the seed tape would be really useful on a smaller scale, or to do during the winter months when not much is going on. You'll be swimming in carrot soup, you will! 😁

@@classicrocklover5615 these days, tissue is more readily available than newspaper, at least at our house. What a great way to reuse newspapers! ☺️

A great winter project when I can't be in the garden, thank you!
I hope you get creative with what seeds you use! 😊

Great idea for using the match sticks! 😊
Hey Robin, I didn’t even know what seed tape was 😊 I’ve just had to Google 🤣 so I’ve definitely learned something new today. What a fantastic idea!! ❤

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm terrible at spacing, so I'll be making these by the bucket full. 😀
I'm so happy this is helpful to you 😊 I can assure you I'll be doing the same 😂
Very clever!
@@IAMGiftbearer Thank you 😊 I hope you'll let me know if you try it out x

You sound American then you use a word like “quid “?
I am American, but I have lived in Scotland for more than 15 years, so the vocabulary tends to change when you live abroad. ☺️
