Hah, don't forget Chloe Chua, they are both wtih Li of the same age, talent, discipline and they play both violin on the same level. But they play it totally different way :). Li plays mainly for outer effect meanwhile Chloe plays according to composer's intention. Don't take it bad but some people can't stand playing just for effect.
Your comparison of two brilliant children, 9 months apart in age, is inappropriate and inconsequential. Their families and teachers don't indulge in such petty schoolyard ranking. Neither did the judges at the prestigious Menuhin Competition in 2018. Watch, listen, admire, and enjoy.
@@rofo2107 : to claim, Christian plays for "effect" only, is ridiculous. Listening to his Bruch, Vivaldi etc. opens musical worlds. I love Chloe too, but all these likes are a matter of opinion, taste, and prejudice.
Absolutely brilliant and I am a retired professional cellist. This young lad will be the Yo yo Ma of tomorrow. He exudes such maturity. Close your eyes and you are listening to a mature man. Isaac Stern would have fostered and mentored, such a talent.
Each piece I watch Christian play I just don’t know which words to use as he leaves me speechless with his skill and total control of the violin. It is not only a joy to listen to he is a joy to watch as well. He is one with the instrument and you can see how much he loves playing. Another outstanding performance.
Superlative in every way, both violin and piano. To Christian Li and Laurance Matheson: when your incomparable duo performs your first recital in Carnegie Hall, and I know you will, please play this piece. You are a peerless duo, perfectly synchronized, thinking and feeling together like twins. This video deserves to be immortalized in a time capsule. To all my fellow listeners: we are lucky to be alive in a world where these two maestros bring the genius of Dvorak to life in this brilliant, glistening Sonatina. To the parents and teachers of these two perfect musicians: unadulterated praise and thanks. Lilian Duval, U.S.
lilianwriter Thank you for your good comments Lilian. Laurance and Christian has played music together for 2 years, there is already a great understanding between the two good buddies.
Yes, their rapport is fantastic, and they are equals onstage. There is nothing childish about Christian's violin playing. Every note and nuance from that gorgeous Amati is just absolutely right. That lucky violin has landed in very deserving hands!
Christian Li, you never disappoint! It always brings me so much joy to listen to you and watch you perform. Goodness, you have matured musically so much in just one year! I am always so impressed by your ability to collaborate with other musicians. You and your accompanist, Laurence Matheson, worked so well together. BRAVO!
Every night, I listen to him. Seeing his passionate playing motivates me to take up the violin, and add it to my piano career. Thank you so much for bringing joy to my life. Of course, thank you to your parent's for giving him encouragement every day. What method do you use to practice? As an advanced pianist, practice is extremely important to achieve a stellar performance, such as the one above. Thank you, and keep giving us extraordinary music.
What a darling of a little man who will someday be famous. We are lucky to see him as he grows through his stages into the full adult famous violinist world wide. He is very strong guy to take on so much learning and discipline and conduct himself in such a mature manner that is uncommon in most of the population of unruly kids these days with no real goals. His work will be rewarded. I pray he get the nurturing and off time needed to have a well rounded life. Am anxious to see him blossom once he reaches manhood.. He is another of Gods gifts of prodigies that we are so fortunate to see on UA-cam. Thanks YT.
Estoy maravillado con CRISTIAN LI...por dios es un angel dandonos la paz y velleza de la musica con tan solo 8 años...no puedo dejar de admirarlo...UNICO
Same as I thought. I heard Gil Shaham, one of the greatest of all time, just prior to Christian Li, and truly I think I preferred the latter. I too thought the same thing- close your eyes and anyone wouldn’t have an idea this is a child. Praising God for such beautiful music and the amazing performances thereof, amongst the best IMO being this one.
You keep treating us with great performances... Such a wholesome and emotional interpretation - Thank You, Christian ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Greetings from Finland !
my kids my husband and I have a playlist just with you which we play at home quite often. You are an inspiration for my 2 kids (4 and 9) to play, study and enjoy music
This is beautifully played and accompanied, thank you. I really love how you’ve transitioned to this massive 3/4. Great sound. Fantastic tempos. You really went for it in that 4th movement 😂
As wonderful and enjoyable as always. This perfectly illustrates what a talented person is like. 祝快乐成长,快乐练琴,终成音乐大家🎵 And, the Vivaldi summer you played during the Menuhin competition(Junior final) is the best version I've ever seen on the internet. It's just full of unreplaceable and unique 灵性和夏天的热情--The priceless feeling I can not even find a word in English to express...
This is not just another 11yr kid playing the violin. Many can do that. This is an 11yr old who plays with the insight and understanding of a true artist. That is what makes him so extraordinary. He also has a wonderful pianist accompanying him . Great team
Great duo. Love me some Christian especially playing some of my very faves. Looks like a different violin...full size? I wonder. Keep chasing your passion, I’m quite sure you’ll be famous for a long time...I hope so, because I love hearing you!
Dear Parents, 1stThank you for this gift! Christian is going to be the best violinist from all sides (musically he is really good and, of course, technically) Please, ask him for me (as a violinist) what is in his mind during his playing? Does he think about notes, about accuracy or how to shift and get right note? Or something else? It will be really helpful for us - common persons. Regards
Edward Onischenko I asked him, he said in practice, he will consider the accuracy of what you say, but in performance, he will only consider the cooperation with the orchestra or the piano, and try to show the right character of any movement to the audience.
Is this violin made by the Nicolo Amati predecessor of Antonio Stradivari? That Nicolo Amati died in 1684. Anyway, violins need violinists, and your playing is wonderful. I hope to listen you playing Mazurek, also by Dvorak!
He's been practicing 40 hours a day since he was 36 months old. No, seriously it's amazing to watch his progress from only five years old and how he's developed. Even at seven he was shockingly good; sounding wonderful on a smaller violin. In a few years when the violin is no longer bigger than his entire upper body....well he already sounds awesome now, can't imagine what we'll be hearing when he's 16.
Christian! You are a great musician! Would you mind telling what size instrument and bow you use here? Bow looks short, violin big. Whatever it is sounds great!
Two wonderful, sensitive musicians. A brief comment would be Mr Matheson might do well to consider using less una corda - it devalues the range of colour and control which I am sure he has, and it does Mr Li no favours in listening to and blending with a wider tonal colour range around him because his violin will always be "on top" even when it needn't (or shouldn't) be. Nevertheless, a distinct pleasure to see two young performers at this stage of their journey enjoying themselves with honest music making without the histrionics and artificial "expressions" that seem to have become the norm with too many up-and-coming instrumentalists. Well done, guys!
I would recommend him to play short pieces (to 6 min.) on stage. His brain like supercomputer and it will be not healthy to force him to do this mega performance during such long period of time. Nose Bleeding is effect from such big pressure on his brain. Parents, you should know, that during performance, artist uses almost every part of his brain. Like engine overheating during fast driving. I'm worrying about his health, He is a really nice boy. Please, tell him that he is already popular in Ukraine) My best wishes !
Christian Li, you are the best junior violinist in the world. Even under extreme pressure, you handle the music maturely. Keep being amazing!
