The fact that Chloe played winter and Christian played summer and they won the competition together is so cute☺️
Did he and Chloe both win?
@@nadiasmith6460 yes, they did
Makes sense cause they’re both so takented
@Sankalp Gupta yea

THE KID WAS AMAZING, but let's talk about the concert mistress being so nice. I've been watching these videos and she's like a comfort for the kids. She gives them a reassuring smile that says everything is fine.
So true. She, as well as others, were very supportive, kind and loving to these kids. Goes well for the whole.
Yes, I loved to watch that. No matter his abilities, he still is a little kid.
Not that they need that, though lol. They were born ready for these performances
Erik bluui
@@euomu It's still nerve wracking despite your level of skill. A lot of pressure must be put into them.
no ones gonna talk about how cute his facial expressions areee
Ikr 😭
Specially this one 9:59. That one threw me off the window
@@zheydhan665 it just me he looks so cute and handsome HAHAHA
People have a problem with it. They said he doesn't play well because he is focusing too much on exaggerating those expressions.
@@nightmarefury9308I do not agree with that judgment.
The orchestra thought they would just be playing a children's competition and ended up being part of one of the greatest Vivaldi Summer performances in recorded history.
eh. It's pretty well known the Menuhin competition is like the Olympics when it comes to youth violin players. Only the cream of the crop gets into this competition, there's no doubt that they will have significant talent.
And winter with Chloe Chua as well.
No they didn't. It's one of the most renown competitions in the world.
anyone else watching the face of the violinist behind him?
A.Krishna the dude looked pretty kind, his expressions showed he had nothing but respect for Christian
He looked impressed.
Yes! That was part of the fun of this video. The other musicians watching him with such respect and awe.

14:08 when both accompanists smile 👌
Actually cellist
13:06 Not only his skills, look at his knees, body, feet, even eyes. Passion, spirit, and himself have blended all together. Amazing.
Lol boys are just overdramatic like that
perfect like score
@@ChiefHerzensCoach Thank you for the link. Nice to see play Turkey March at 6 years old.
13:06 there are very problematic notes
whats the piece played there
Great violin talent, BUT I think he will eventually conduct. His control of the orchestra during the Vivaldi is extraordinary.
What I thought so as well, his emotions while interpreting the music shows too!
Peter Balint I can see that, for sure!
Yeah, it's in him, alright. Perhaps often conducting/performing.
His motions and phrasing really shows the orchestra the type of sound and feeling he’s looking
I think so, too!
Ok but you should've seen me on the kazoo when I was 10
are u the kazoo kid
OF COURSE NOT
HAHAHA

It was an absolute privilege to be in this concert and see these competitors, and especially to witness the two joint first prizewinners burst into public consciousness with their remarkable playing.
There are a number of comments about Christian's tone and playing, and what he did is all the more remarkable when one considers that he created this beautiful tone on a half size violin.
Christian shared the first prize with chloe Chua, and if anyone who has not seen her video should really do so! Her playing is equally remarkable and completely different. She has extraordinary emotional depth, too. Totally different and equalLy talented!
Classical music has a bright future....
I prefer brillante. Bright strings are too harsh for my taste :)
chloe Chua >
I am listening for the past 30 minutes to the first piece here and by Chua. I have no idea why I like hers so much better. I am going back and forth to figure it out but no luck.
@@MariaVlasiou She has more dynamic in playing it, and more gentle touch in some moments.
@@kieranriddle9120 Thank you. I will listen again with your comment in mind.
God, they're getting younger and younger by the day... this kid was not even playing to show off, you can feel authentic emotions from start to end... amazing talent...
Wow. My favourite was watching the violinists around him. That one behind him who looked skeptical in the beginning, then it changed to impressed, to moved, and finally beaming with pride. He won everyone's respect in those 16 minutes. Way to go super adorable kid. I must say I also love his facial expressions. Clearly this kid feels this music down to the core. It's because of people like this that I am starting to love classical music. Thank you for sharing.
I think they've probably rehearsed with the competitors beforehand
@@teaizyummy But you never ever know how it is going to come on stage. It could depe nd on the mood of the moment. From what we see, he is absolutely clear giving the cues. He is in fact conducting. 15:30. The way he leads the dynamics of the last bars with his body is so impressive.
I dont know if it was skeptical so much as having their dreams crushed by a 10 year old
Man, it's so therapeutic. The power of music!
15:54
Warms the heart when he asks the orchestra to stand and receive the applause also
Yeah, so cute. He looks small compare to the adults. And they were smiling 😄
Ahaha he could become a conductor 😂
But.... but... he's only 10....
He's an equal
He shared first prize in this competition with a girl of 8
yeah brahms i know..
@kirinphoebe1 dont forget about the kazoo
socks_and_ candies No, he's the youngest ever winner of this competition at age 10 and shared first prize with 11 year-old Chloe Chua
He must’ve practiced 40 hours a day ...

The world still has hope when we have people like this kid.
i totally agree...
Not for those of us trying to make a career in violin performance 🙄
and the world has hope when you are here listening to REAL MUSIC
all musicians are talented, it sounds as if you look down on the other violinists who have spent many years studying and doing our best. music is not about age competition or virtuosity, but about transmitting and feeling.
I watched it many times and this is the best version of Vivaldi I have ever heard. For me, Christian is like the violin itself. His body movements show he is the music. the tone is very clean, very emotional, and very musical. now, I have become a fan. Love from Indonesia ❤🇮🇩
Can we talk about how he makes his violin sound like a flute?!
Nah that never happened. Violin is violin flute is flute. Though a mosquito can b a violin 🎻 🤔
Expression and i thought the first piece was called “the magic mosquito” cuz i didn’t read the description lol
✨H A R M O N I C S✨
Cuz it's like a 1/4 violin
Flagiolets
I love how he conducts with his whole body lol
There will never be another moment like this. A purity in intention. Truly touching. As musicians grow older, more polished, they'll continue to inspire us, but in different ways. It's moment like this that I'm thankful for technology for giving people who were not present in the concert hall the chance to experience this.
What a nuanced observation! And you captured it in words so aptly articulated!!
I agree with you 100% . !
He is probably the best winner they've had in the Menuhin Comp for the last 10-20 years. The complexity of the arrangement for the Vivaldi Lestate is just astounding! The precision in which he plays is just phenominal.
What a time to be alive.
Twominutepaper
so you did not watch Chloe's performance then huh ?
Your photos and posts are beautiful. The article on your page was so nice and so bright that it caught my eye. I hope you don't mind knowing better
Anyone who has seen Chloe knows she is the true winner.
Christian was absolutely amazing but lets appreciate the fact that no one clapped between movements!
I'm so impressed with his command of the orchestra. That goes beyond simply being a soloist. Such incredible musicianship and leadership.
40 hours a day keeps the teacher away
Watching his performance right after watching that of Chloe Chu's, it's amazing the virtuosity and presence that each presents, but also how each brings a different interpretation and color to the same pieces. It's breathtaking. I would like to see these two, SuHyun Ko, Himari Yoshimura, and Natsuho Murata all on stage together.
@@ChiefHerzensCoach I was introduced to him only a few days ago.
To Teo No, I'm not a musician, but I enjoy listening to these performers. Somehow I got swept up into the world of TwoSet.
Chua 蔡, a common Chinese family name. Chu, usually 朱, another one.
I'm pretty sure Chloe Chua and Christian Li played different pieces. Chloe played vivaldi winter whereas Christian played vivaldi summer
Both Chloe & Christian are insanely talented 🎊
Wow… 🤩
Wow this kid. His musicality is so deep and emotionally mature. Man and it’s not even a full sized violin. Crazy. Can’t wait to hear him when he is fully grown.
Yes he was using a half-size Italian violin made in 1780.

And when he quietly and slowly turned the music sheet over while locking his eyes at the little maestro's back.
He’s definitely going to be a conductor when he’s older
The way he plays, his facial expressions, his body movements all suggests that he is not just playing music with his violin, he is the violin, he is the music. If I am his mother, I would be in tears all throughout the performance! What an amazing incredible young man.
0:47 That guy looks like an evil scientist who says: "Yes my creation, show them what you're capable of! Soon we will steal hearts, and then the entire world muahahaha!"
hahaa yeahhh lmao
He took my breath away. This video deserves a thousand thumbs up. I have been following Christian since my son started violin lesson last year and I always know that Christian is exceptionally gifted and hard working. However, this final performance is beyond my expectation. Unbelievable. It's like magic right from the start when the first mysterious sound comes out. His interpretation is unique and truly beautiful. What a great story telling skill!
The second piece is even more stunning. I'd say he was at his best because I've never seen him playing with so much energy before. Just watch how he led the musicians with such ease, passion, confidence, and liveliness. He is a naturally enthusiastic violinist. Born to be a stage legend, that's for sure!
-----------Update 5/1/2018---------
His final performance at Menuhin is my favorite. I watched it for so many times and never get tired. Now even my little guys come to UA-cam to search for Christian Li. Dear Christian, you've captured fans of all ages :P

From what you said I can sense the disrespect for classical musicians. I disagree with you in the following points.
1.Just like the classical literatures and the famous oil paintings in musems, classical music represents the peak of human musical history. Whether you like it or not it will always be the most broad and profound music written by human beings. I don't think it can be compared to Beetles and Elvis in any way. You were like comparing a grass to a forest.
2. There is a huge difference between listening to recordings at home and a live in music hall, and that's one of the reasons why we need classical musicians to bring the masterpiece to the audience in our time. Every player has his own interpretations and it's interesting to compare those different versions of the same piece. That's what really intrigues me.
3. You said few will notice the difference if they replace the orchestra. Partly true. Let me give you an example. I cannot tell the difference of an authentic Hermes bag and a fake one. They are actually different but look exactly the same to me because I have never had an authentic one and I don't care what it looks like. The same thing happen to people who don't listen to classic music and cannot notice the difference of different orchestras.
I understand different people have different opinions and taste. I hope every good musician will be respected, whether they are classical or not.
Clark Kent
Rock stars express what they think and how they feel, classical musicians interpret what composers think and how theyfeel. They have different roles. Are you trying to say that rock stars are better because they are creative and they don't needs sheets? Doesn't make any sense to me.
If you like classical music you should stop putting lables such as cheap labour on classical musicians. Everybody wants to be a soloist but very few can reach the final goal. True there are many mediocre players just read notes, but there are also many who strive very hard to open the door of classical music for young people, like Lang Lang from China.
If you don't like the fact that there are so many Chinese in the world most prestigious music competitions or world top orchestras, you definitely will be more upset during the years to come because I bet it is just a beginning.
If you don't like classical music you really shouldn't have watched this video.
Clark Kent
Your malicious comment about this amazing child make me begin to doubt if you have the ability to sense the beauty of art. For some reasons you don't seem to see the apparent musicality he has. I feel sorry for you. And I guess you've never heard the saying "good artist copy and great artist steal." by Picasso, otherwise you shouldn't have been so negative about students learning from teachers and masters.
Learn to appreciate other people's talent and deligence, and stop passing your judgement. Be humble. That's all I want to say to people like you.
Such a charmer! Of course he is brillant, that was to be expected. But the way he interacts with the orchestra is truly exceptional. What a Stage personality!
It's so exceptional!
I don't know this is just my feeling or what, but I 100% sure, that when he play all of the songs he really enjoys it, I mean, he just play it without any ambition to win or to make other people happy, he just really want to play it with all of his heart, it's just like he is the music itself, it shows from his face, and he gesture,,, he looks like he plays every Tone perfectly with many kind of expression that shows its tone emotion,,,(I don't know u could understand this or not, but if you ever play any kind of music or do something you loved u must be understand, I guess..)

In one interview he said since he has worked so hard at it in practising he might as well enjoy it during the actual performamce. Great attitude.
The first piece which Christian played was a commissioned work by Jaehyuck Choi called 'Self in Mind'.
"Commission works are short pieces, conceived either for solo violin or violin with piano, is included in the competition's repertory in order to test the interpretive skills of the young artists in playing a piece that has no performance history".
Christian won the Composer Award in 2018 for the Junior Category by playing the commissioned piece.
All in all, Christian won 3 awards at Menuhin:
1. Joint 1st Prize
2. Composer Award
3. Audience Prize

This boy...my Lord, his talent is beyond genius, it's other worldly. I've watched this video several times and will never tire of it. The first piece he plays must have been so challenging to learn. It's such an intellectual piece with no melody to hold onto. And may I say that the respect Christian Li shows for the members of the orchestra by asking them to take a bow with him puts him in a class of his own. I am in awe.
Your photos and posts are beautiful. The article on your page was so nice and so bright that it caught my eye. I hope you don't mind knowing better
10:50 JUST LOOK at his controool
Christian Li is a violin 🎻 prodigy of unbelievable talent.
His face expressions when playing are so cute lol
It’s crazy how no one is talking about the first piece. It is very interesting. It was as if he was like telling a story on the violin.
I love how other musicians look at them with love and pride, as if thinking: "yes, they are one of us, they love and feel music like we do. There is hope for classical music... classical musicians will still endure, the love for classical music has not disappeared yet, the legacy has been transmitted, classical musicians have not yet become extinct.
When I see them I think that they are all virtuoso musicians, that possibly they all walked the same path since they were children; and that one day maybe Christian and Chloe will be adults like them, and they will also be there welcoming and accompanying the new generation of musicians to share with them the pride, the respect por hard work, and love for their art.
I love the man behind the boy. His facial expression tells me everything and also I can feel that he is a very gentle and humorous guy.
Music flows in his blood!
How stunning he is !!!
His body, his brain, his soul, and the violin are in perfect harmony !
7:56 this part almost mad me cry. the melody and everything together is so fascinating and emotional! i can feel his face expressions and the music around him
That was Absolutely Stunning beyond words. I have never heard this young man before, and while I expected this to be excellent as it is the final of a prestigious competition, this floored me totally. Such passion I have never seen in a young player of his age. Christian Li, I salute you young man.
The musical feeling and emotions and manner of a most accomplished mature musician in the body of a child of ten. Li is a miracle. Menuhin as a ten year old child likely never played as well as Li does. Perhaps even the child or adult Paganini. I have watched and listened to Li almost a hundred times. Each time he appears more accomplished, more natural, more masterly. I run short of words in commenting on what the little fingers of this little magician does pressing on the strings and at the same time waving his magic wand.
What an expressive showman ! Incredible control and command ! Absolutely brilliant !
that's a 10-year old with 25 yrs of violin experience
I'd watched it with tears in my eyes. Reminds me when i was 10 years old and used to listen to Vivaldi with my father and mother.

AMAZING, Christian has so much expression. In his face, knees, feet. he also has So much passion and spirit and they are cute
“On day three of his life, he adorned a violin.”
No right mined person could possibly express any dislike for Christian’s outstanding performance here. They’re absurd. His commitment to his music and that of the orchestra is wonderful to see. Monumental talent and modest behaviour rarely exist together, but in Christian Li they are natural allies and plainly engage with the audience, be they professional or amateur alike. So very well done, we ‘mere mortals’ are left speechless.
The music truly came from his heart...
.... And soul
Packed with bursting energy! His expressions and involvement..... one of the most memorable performances out there 💜
As close to flawless as it gets. The amount of eyebrows raised by these veterans is enough to know hes great.
