- Before Gil and Orli Shaham became internationally known performers, they were budding talents on the Young Artists Showcase. In this performance celebrating the 38th anniversary of Bob Sherman's weekly program, the musical siblings Gil (violin) & Orli (piano) perform Dvořák's Sonatina, Op. 100 live in @GreeneSpaceNY.

THANK YOU
Thanks!! I needed the third movement and needed the time!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU ARE A BLESSING
You're welcome, all.
@Stacik Ploeg You're welcome, glad it's helping.
It's a joy watching Gil enjoying and performing at the same time, like chatting with his sister ... amazing.
I love Gil Shaham. I also love the laidback-ness of this performance. Jeans and sneakers all the way, man.
he always looks high lol
Lol
@@daniel3231995yeah how he always keep that smile up man i have no idea
Dvorak has to just love the way this was performed. He was all about wanting his compositions to be performed with balance and teamwork, no matter what type of composition it was. This is the perfect TEAM for this one!
amazing super performance by duo Gil and Orli. God bless you guys
What wonderful family musical get-togethers they must have!
Exactly the same thought just crossed my mind.
How delightful and lovely. so uplifting and beautiful at the same time. he is captivating, his smiles and loose body movements encourage you to enjoy every moment! thanks
Great dynamics especially piano!
I Allegro risoluto - 0:00
II Larghetto - 3:58
III Scherzo Molto vivace - 7:42
IV Finale Allegro - 10:38
Absolutely delightful performance for WQXR, my old classical music station in NY. Even the relatively minor pieces by Dvorak are masterful. BTW, for those who are unaware, Orli is Gil's sister.
Great sound. Wonderful playing
Gil is one of the very best... wished I could meet him, just to congratulate him..
D P me too
I love this piece, partly because it’s easy enough for me to play, but also because Dvorak wrote it while looking at the inspirational beauty of Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis, just a few blocks from my home.
I'm playing this piece for solo and ensemble this year. It's so fun!
I love this piece!
Simply lovely playing by both
AMAZING pianist accompaniment
To be accurate it’s a sonatina which like a sonata is in fact a duet. Bit different than a solo with accompaniment
Me encanta la complicidad con que tocan los hermanos Shaham esta bella obra.
Love this piece
Český folklór v hávu vážné hudby... Toník nezklame, krása. I díky Gilovi...
Quel son, générosité, naturel, justesse, précision, simplicité...
Beautiful playing of beautiful music by two beautiful people.
Beautiful!! Merci!!
Thank you for sharing this.
Enjoyed every second of the first movement, great interpretation :)
Beautiful.
soooo exquisite partnership, thank you!!!
Thanks!
A winning performance!
I had the honor of attending several of Gil's concerts. What is most unique about his presence on stage was his ability to perform and engage with the audience on a deep personal level. He literally picks out individuals in the crowd and makes sincere eye contact with them as he plays, almost on a telepathic level. I have attended countless legendary violinist's concerts with upclose seats and never felt so close and connected to the soloist as with Gil.
Love the shoes
beautiful
Wow!
Beautiful❤️

Love this. Although it was written while Dvorak was in America, it has the feel of a cafe in Prague, Vienna or Budapest. Time of another kaffee mit schlage!
Einfach "mit Schlag" - das e ist zu viel :)
Danke!
When I listen to Dvorak's late music, I can "see" Ellis Island and the European immigrants arriving in New York.
My 5 year old daughter is working on this piece and it really helps to see how the professional uses their bow and bow distribution, which is very hard for my daughter to remember. It is amazing to watch his right arm and it creates such a beautiful sound!
5 year old is working on this? Wow... When Dvořák wrote this song his son (violin) was 10 years old and his daughter (piano) was 15.
Beautiful❤
Reminds me of old memories at the conservatorium :)
Sublime !
Superbe ❤
Wow - The Fazioli sounds awesome !!!!
Is this one of the composer’s pieces with American Indian influences or themes? Maybe there are some subtleties. I’m not schooled in classical music, but interested to learn. Thank you.
It was written when he lived in the USA and was supposed to be trying to create an American style of classical music. As to your specific point there is controversy.
I think yes.
Thanks to Gil and Orli and thanks to Schubert too and lets not forget UA-cam.
What about Schubert? Is he on the recording?
Chris Doby you never know about the unseen mwahahahahaha
Schubert wrote one of these, too. Dvorak may have gotten his inspiration from that. This one is better, though!

I wish the playing was a more gentle dialogue overall. But I'm happy there is more room to the pianist. She shines.

Who else Is here from Terminal Railway
Why the tee shirt and jeans?
I'm glad he decided to put something on. Dress clothes won't make him play it any better than this! It's already awesome, why dress up?
Why would you play with a stand that low?
the piano music rack is strange as well! they may both benefit from music specific glasses!
The farther back you stand, the lower it can go. And he knows the piece so well he hardly needs the music anyway.
He is communicating with the public. A high stand can become like a wall between performer and public
A good job these experts can find something to talk about, no mention of beautiful musicianship.
Weird bow hold....

jonatan black actually what matters is that nobody got hurt, jonathan

HE IS SO GOOD
tempi too fast in my personal view - consequently hasty and superficial
You would be wise to keep your opinion to yourself. Gil Shaham is one of the finest violinists and certainly very musical. It may be faster than you are used to , but that doesn't make it hasty, and much less superficial.
@@MrFpam This would not change my humble opinion, and there is no reason to hide it.
@@andreasneumann You may think the tempi are too fast, but your conclusion that the performance is hasty and superficial is not warranted. It reflects badly on you, indicating arrogance or ignorance or both. Have you studied or played the piece? I have, and although i would not play the opening so fast I would certainly not dismiss Gil Shham's performance as hasty and superficial. I know this would not change your opinion, but it does not seem humble to me.
@@MrFpam it makes no sense to discuss with you, have a nice day
Andreas, you sound like a musician who never gets angry, you just have tempo tantrums!
Such underwhelming one dimensional playing......
And the bug up your a__ is where?
Why do these people carp?,I've got it. To gain a modicum of attention.
