That 0.5 moa hit looks like a low-right hit on the very edge of the plate. The chain broke in the middle, but the splash was not coming from this place, and the target did seem to have an extra mark afterwards. Marginal hit, but a hit. Good call!

100% correct - most shooters are too tentative in their corrections. Especially for windage you should always make corrections that are GREATER than any deviation due to wind so you can really see what the effect is. You can be more tentative with elevation but wind affects elevation too so it's better to be bold. People like Ryan Cleckner talk about this all the time. Desert Tech SRS Heck yeah! Love seeing those any time. Can anybody answer a question for me though since I haven't shot much past 300 yards, is there any benefit to loading one round at a time instead of filling the magazine? Like I see it a lot that folks will have their magazine in the rifle, but it's empty and they just continue to load one round into the chamber at a time. Is there a harmonic resonance something or other with like "loose components" (cartridges in a magazine) that affect precision/accuracy, or is it more or less just personal preference? Something I've wondered about after seeing it pretty frequently on these videos. Keep up the fantastic work Matt! I love these monthly videos every time they come out, look forward to the new month every time for these videos!
@@MasterEngraverTV Really? So what are you going to do when your rounds are too long to even fit in the mag? I think being able to shoot vs going home is a pretty big advantage.
For these kinds of ranges, you want the longest, heaviest, sleekest bullets you can get. And you don't want to seat them so deep that the powder is all around the sides of the bullet base. When you do that, you can end up with ammo too long to even fit in the mag. Plus they usually aren't crimping the bullets in and have very light pressure on the cartridge mouth so recoil can disturb the bullets in the mag. Throw in all the possible feeding issues you can have, it's just simpler, safer, more reliable to single feed. There's no time limit in this so why mess with it? So given all of that, why even bother having a mag fed rifle? Well many do go that route but who says these are single use rifles? I'm sure many of these guys are using them in other competitions that are timed and aren't going out to a thousand. For those, they probably use factory ammo or handloads specifically put together for that comp so fit in the mag, feed, and are crimped. Then when your buddy calls you up and invites you to a thousand yard challenge, you just grab the special ammo and single load it instead of building a whole new gun just for that.
That howa 1500 300prc shot a descent string. I believe with a better ring and base setup it has potential. The current setup is way too far from bore axis.

These are GREAT VIDEOS!!! Only thing i could ask for is a little more information on the rifles..... Especially Barrels because a Rifle is built around the barrel! Is it cold hammer forged? What kinda steel is it made out of? Is it chrome lined? Is it NItrated? How was the Rifling done? Twist Rate? What Profile Barrel is it because you can't always tell because the CHF proccess will shrink the diameter of the barrel making a heavy profile barrel sometimes look more like a medium. So I would really like to know more...
The videos are fun. If you are interested in shooting long range and building a long range gun, a bit of research might be in order. For most folks, guns are not built around barrels. A barrel is a consumable. We spin a new one from one of a handful of makers when we burn one out. Most barrels on LR rifles are single cut stainless. The finish profile is what it is. Typically measured in inches. CHF doesn’t turn a heavy profile into a medium. Also profile is just a name subject to manufacturer. Heavy for one maker might be .950 at the muzzle. For another it might be straight 1.25. Chrome lined is mostly limited to the small profile barrels used in the AR15 platform. Not so much on purpose built long range rifles
Are most of the challengers using kestrels ? Are they allowed to go down range to verify wind at different locations ? Seems most are missing due to huge wind corrections
Is there a list of what setups have succeeded? Mainly cartridge and barrel? Would be interesting data to peruse over, especially if building a long range gun.
On the earlier videos there was a guy posting an updated list of the cartridges and hit percentages but I haven't seen him around lately. As for building a gun for long range, go back to the early videos, find the first guy to get a gold coin, google his name and get him to build you a rifle. That guy knows what he is doing and builds some nice guns.
so are some of the shooters using their dials to make poa match poa while others are using the reticles in their scopes? Or are the shooters who arent adjusting dials just eyeballing it?
All I have been able to do is shoot 800m. I’m up in Michigan. still can almost always hit on second shot. I guess those extra 200m add quite a bit of difficulty. Im shooting an Sig cross in 308 with a resonator v2 suppressor, and a Burris xtr II scope. Not really a flashy kit, but I do use a ballistic calculator and honestly that thing does all the adjustments for you.
I have been watching from Ep1 and would soooo love to try my hand with my AI AXMC in .338 Lap and .300 Norma, but sadly the cost of carrying my toys from the UK would be well beyond my piggy bank; even if Donald would let me in LOL

As he mentioned, he was on max zoom. No optic is picking that up… But yeah whatever you think
14:45 bunch misses off right then nails it that's wild
It’s cause I was having trouble seeing impacts until shot 5. The venom glass is awful
The big takeaway on this is the crucial role of the spotter.
Rough one. Just luck of the draw when it comes to the wind on filming day !
Man, not going to lie, this one was hard to watch. That wind was something else.
This is actually good content ;)
Are most of the challengers using kestrels ? Are they allowed to go down range to verify wind at different locations ? Seems most are missing due to huge wind corrections
Was that first shooter the Alan weirdo from the hangover movies? LOL!
Damn wind!!
No TP again? u gotta get in there!
Hmm, I suppose so…
@@TexasPlinkingI’ve sent emails and dms on ur IG accounts to come shoot. Don’t know if you’re seeing them or if i need to do something different.
Pls give us a gun collection vid
If you watch from 29:39 at 0.25x speed, it's clear that the target chain got shot in half, pretty wild!
Awesome…thanks for sharing…
Salute!🍃🍃🫡
Used your code for a Arken scope and saved over a 150$ Thank you
Wish I could come out and try
Im Excited as well anytime I see the notification..... Kinda hate how you gave feedback cuz the guys your buddy though
Oh my, it has nothing to do with that. It’s all for fun man
so are some of the shooters using their dials to make poa match poa while others are using the reticles in their scopes? Or are the shooters who arent adjusting dials just eyeballing it?
I was wondering if Grant would show up again. He just can't stay away! Im the very proud owner of his old TRG in 6.5 CM.
