      Being one of the first shooters, he made it look easy, which made all of the other shooters look "bad" by comparison. The truth is, hitting a target over 5000 feet away is extremely difficult and the fact that he hit it twice in a row really IS quite impressive.

      I was not successful with a 6.5 creed either. It had enough steam to get there but dope becomes erratic. However I was able to hit 1 mile with a 7SS on the 4th shot.

    I was excited to see the forum was Clinton House. In 2023 that reprobate Mike Sexton talked me into 1760 within 5 shots handling a factory-vanilla Sako S20 flying 6.5 PRC handloads, sighted through an Arken 24x. He treated us like Marine boot campers, and it worked! Seems like Team 'fueled by' Hornady may need some fresh meat. Haha! Great forum, keep it up.

    I’m enjoying watching this series and will continue to watch. I’ve been a bit surprised (probably shouldn’t be) to see some ungodly nice equipment and then some pretty unsound fundamentals. I was really cheering for Sandra and expected a lot after they said she was a Kahles shooter. While she wasn’t quite slapping the trigger, there was definitely no follow through. Some of the guys that couldn’t quite get a hit on target have grouped ridiculously well, and I know it’s very difficult to spot your own misses and correct for yourself under time constraints (especially in the rain). Regardless, great shooting and a very fun watch.

    6.5 CM 140 eldm factory load out of a gas gun is gonna drop 28-30mil at 1 mile. If that’s not insane enough, the windage with a touch of wind could go up to 2 mil, not to mention gas gun usually groups worse than the bolt gun. If that lady ever hits the target with that setup, she is the true winner of the game

    Being a non shooter (at the moment) I conclude the small 6.5 is just too small to see impacts and may be a poor choice for this competition.

      There's a guy who did the LRSU Milk Jug challenge with a 22" 6.5 Grendel AR-15 on 3rd shot at 1500yds. I couldn't believe it but he did it. Much higher altitude though at 6300ft.
      He 1st-round connected with his 7mm SAUM after just turning the barrel on too, at either 1500 or a mile. They have video of all if it.

    Crosswinds are a bugaboo - not only does a crosswind at any point on the flight path deflect the bullet, but if the crosswind is consistent, it continues accelerating the bullet laterally the longer the bullet flight, so that the dispersion grows both angularly and dynamically with distance, in a horizontal arc. Hats off to long-range shooters.

    6.5 at that distance I bet the bullets became hyper unstable due to passing subsonic. I love my 6.5 but it's the wrong tool for this particular range IMO. Fantastic episode!! Can't wait for the next

    • @SigmaBallistics
      @SigmaBallistics Місяць тому +3

      That’s mostly a myth, unless you are running the ragged edge of stability in the first place. The problem is the internet makes people think the creed is some magic cartridge. You cannot beat physics, large front surface area and heavy calibers will dominate beyond 1,000 everytime. A 6.5 anything has no business for any sort of serious work at a mile.

    • @Z33Garage
      @Z33Garage Місяць тому

      @@SigmaBallistics what is a myth? The bullet becoming unstable as it passed through the sound barrier as it slows down?? I have heard that heavier magnum rounds are effected less by this issue with lighter bullets.

    • @SigmaBallistics
      @SigmaBallistics Місяць тому +3

      @@Z33Garage it's a myth that most bullets will just become unstable and start tumbling upon transitioning into subsonic. This is rarely an issue, unless like I said, the bullet is very poorly stabilized in the first place.
      I doubt the issue with the 6.5's connecting to the mile target in this video was related to tumbling, just mostly lack of experience and a very poor choice for ELR.

    • @Z33Garage
      @Z33Garage Місяць тому +1

      @@SigmaBallistics ahh ok fair. I have heard from several UA-cam LR guys that generally you want to stay within the sonic flight of the bullet for best effect. I agree the 6.5creedmor is probably not the best choice for a round for a mile compared to a magnum cartridge.

    • @SigmaBallistics
      @SigmaBallistics Місяць тому +2

      @@Z33Garage ideally you want to stay above mach 1.2, below that is when a little bit of transonic unpredictability occurs with ballistics solvers. Only workaround is a custom drag profile from a radar or some tweaking with DSF factor in the solver.....but with ELR you have no choice but to deal with it. Best workaround that we know of is a tried and true projectile that is known to transition well, and to up the stability to around an sg of around 2 (even up to 2.5-3 with solids).
      but yeah, the biggest thing in ELR is being able to spot your misses, this where the big 375-416 caliber projectiles really shine, they produce so much more splash than a 30 cal or even a 338 for that matter. the difference is massive. if you can't see where you last impacted you are just pissing in the wind.

    Reading some of the comments, I realize that we have PRS shooters who enjoy their own rules and breaking them whenever they can and then there’s three gun shooters we don’t shoot long range. The 65 Creedmoor is not a extended long range gun. Let’s be fair it is clear that the shooters using it, we’re doing it to use their sponsors equipment regardless of the outcome. Also, I hear some of the shooters we’re not all following the same set of rules.

    Dwayne Thompson's rig needs a longer barrel in order to even reach a mile. Even diehard 6.5 Creedmoor fans will tell you that while the cartridge can reach a mile, its inconsistent with a hit probability about 60% because the cartridge is subsonic.
