    As far as noise reduction goes, the inbuilt Audacity NR is bloody incredible! Such a pitty that a lot of more powerful DAWs don’t include equally good NR capabilities.

      It's ridiculously temperamental about things haha. One of these days I want to try and take it in to a guitar tech or luthier to see if they could do a more proper repair but I'm sure that'd cost me a small fortune if they could even save it.

    my yamaha acoustic is older than god, and it's the one instrument i have kept hold of since i bought it in 1994. like yours it needs a setup, the frets are shallow, but it has so much character as it is I refuse to do anything with it. Love you for being of a similar vein and creating a sampler instrument of something like this. Off to buy it immediately.

    Nice video and how you describe your process. I find it easier to build my instruments in kontakt. Many think that kontakt is complex but as I explained in one of my videos some of the free samplers discourage newbies by making the instrument building process more difficult and "coding" like.

    • @VenusTheory
      @VenusTheory  2 роки тому +3

      Luckily Decent Sampler instruments are very copy/paste. It's not nearly as complex as Lua or KSP for Falcon/Kontakt. However the visual aids for Kontakt/Falcon do make mapping things significantly easier - the creator of Decent Sampler is working on some new tools though to make creating instruments easier!

    • @chromofonic
      @chromofonic 2 роки тому +1

      @@VenusTheory Thanks for your reply. I am not only referring to the visual aids for mapping. Modulation and layering of samples and groups in Kontakt are very intuitive without a single line of KSP code. Concerning Falcon, it's a beast (an overkill in certain areas). That's why I think Kontakt strikes the right balance. I like David (the creator of Decent Sampler) and his demeanor. He is a sweet guy. However, I am just afraid that some establishments might exploit his attempts coding a simple free sampler to send the wrong message to potential samplists (i.e it's hard to build evocative, complex, and organic instruments involving modulation etc. Therefore play around with free instruments and tip creators but pay the high premium for the "professional" good stuff).

    • @chromofonic
      @chromofonic 2 роки тому

      @Ra Sharpness It's not hard to add a few custom knobs in Kontakt. Ten lines of KSP, copy/paste. I will address some of the easy shortcuts in my tutorials. But building a complex instrument does not require programming in Kontakt. The modulation and editing functions available within the engine are very intuitive. Cheers John!

    Check out "$13 Stella" on the album The Mason Williams Ear Show. Stella's were a mail order-department store item (think "Montgomery Ward"). According to the liner notes, Mason's Stella did not survive to make the recording, as sampling was limited to the likes of Delia Derbyshire ("Dr. Who" theme). "$13 Stella" might make a comeback with your Sampled Gibson. I guess inflation and brand recognition got to the price of yours. There is something attractive about the non-resonant "thunk" of the picked bass strings of your Gibson-Stella. Round-wound steel string noise for chord changes, might be welcome too. The Tascam recorder is very nice too. Love your microphone tree too; recording from solo guitar to a symphony orchestra (okay, not QUITE a Decca Tree).

When a guy from Guitar World magazine pointed out to Kurt in an interview that the guitar sounded a little flat on "Polly," Kurt replied, "That’s a 20-dollar junk shop Stella - I didn’t bother changing the strings.
