The 2025 Porsche Spyder RS ($192,600 starting in Canada, $164,200 starting in the US) is a mid-engine roadster with the same 4.0L flat six engine as found in the 911 GT3. And with that engine comes a screaming 9,000 rpm redline, 493 horsepower through natural aspiration, and a 3.2 second claimed 0-60 mph time. But with softer suspension than a GT4 RS and a removable roof, where does the Spyder RS fit into Porsche’s lineup? And how does it compare to something like a C8 Z06 Corvette? Thomas and James are excited to find out! We hope you enjoy the episode. Subscribe!

The intro was spot on. I visited a Porsche dealer on the east coast. The sales staff treated us like we were bothering them.
Same here in Chicago
Oh wow so it's a universal experience - same here in the Philippines too. The security guard manning the door begrudgingly let us in. The guy delivering their mail had easier access than we did.
Audi is probably the only VAG company that treats people with class. Even just trying to by a Golf is an exercise in grovelling.
@@shAdOwstAlkEr945 Luxury goods companies rely on making you feel uncomfortable so that you feel obligated to prove you belong
@@HeliRy I'd guess it's more a geographical and peoples' matter than it is a company matter when it comes to bad dealers, because a company can only go so far to intervene with dealers. Because, for every flawed dealer a manufacturer has, that manufacturer probably has 5 more good ones. It just takes some searching and positive word of mouth from fellow customers and visitors. I've said before and I'll still mention that all three of our local Porsche dealers here in the metro Atlanta area have been phenomenal in how they treat their customers.
That intro... pure gold!
"Your name, number, and go f*** yourself" 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
I liked that it was followed by "car reviews evolved" 😂
James saying Weissach is the best part of every Porsche TH review.
It's beautifully refreshing hearing anglophones pronouncing the kh (or the ch - like in weissach) correctly. Very much appreciated
Sounds like a winning smash in a badminton game ❤
It's actually spelled "Hjames" - with an "H" like in the logo.
Throttle House… I have something to say.
You have quickly become my favourite channel.
Welcome to the club 🍻
i always have somwthing to say. Give me the 6 infinity dollers so i may purchase 50% of the porsche boxyer RS in the world
5:44 "Proper, real, mechanical, viceral race car noises" and then quick cuts afterwards - god tier editing!
Sounds to me like there should be a Spyder RS vs Z06 vs Audi R8 comparison........DO IT
When the dealer markups go away, it should be ZR1 vs. these cars.
The R8 had nothing to do with those 2 cars.
@@abderrahmanelbakkali190 if you weren’t aware, all 3 of these cars have a mid engine.
the intro had me DYING. i just can't get enough of this channel
"You don't take your Spyder RS to the track." (I have PURE 5000km track time in it :D, and additional 10'000km road)
Soft top: yeah problem sometimes but 99% of the time you're not in a rush to put it up or take it down. It takes MAX 1 minute after you done it 5 times. SOmetimes I even leave it at home or store it top down.
Too loud for daily: not at all. When you go under 4000rpm not loud at all BUT a 8th gear just for highway would be good because it will rev 4000rpm all the time.
Allocation problem: wasn't a problem. I simply went in and ordered one brand new. And never had a prosche before.
Why you messed up the soft top: Because you didn't clipped the end of the soft top to the metal bar. That's a key to help posiotion the top under the trunk.
(BTW there is a QR code on the soft top how shoudl you do it)
And no it will not go up to 9000rpm like none of these. Not the Gt4RS not the GT3 not the GT3RS. "only" 8'900rpm. (You can read it out from the ECU log.)
Weird things:
- shaking rear when you brake on the limit. (track)
- The vision from the car is not as good as people think. The dash itself is too high up. Of course way better than a Huracan or R8 etc but still nope. The 718 platform itself have this "issue".
- rock chip will stuck between the wheel and the caliper and will cut your rims around. :( (I have it with the magnesium wheels)
- I lost multiple small pastic parts from the car randomly... :/ 2 fins which is at the wheel arch, and 1 plastic behind the seat behind the headrest..
- the seat is freakin good but I would ALSO love to have more tilt in it. Because when you have a helmet it's not comfortable at all.
- it will chew through brakes like no tomorrow and it's not cheap.
- how it comes out from the corners that's like insane! For me the was the most impressing thing (after the sound).
Please pin this
Yeah the idea this won't be tracked bc soft top is misguided
With that being said, on a scale of 1-10 how much do you love the car?
As a porsche employee, I approve of this video. The Spyder RS is by far my favourite modern Porsche. Love the top down experience with that SCREAMING 4.0. BUT, that roof is a pain in the back side to put up 😂
How much is your employee discount on one of these 😂
@inspectorvoid 5% 😂 BUT we cant buy one. Because were not VIPs lol.
@@EconomicsMate1 🤣
I left Porsche sales shortly after the 997.2 came to market. (I became a firefighter) lol…amazing company to work for.
@@lamontgarnesjr4638 totally agree mate. Ive been there for 2 years now. Best company Ive worked for. I worked for Mercedes prior. Was ok, but it changed after the agency model came out. And thanks for your service to keeping the community safe mate 🫡 legend
4:19 "Dropp three gears in a second" and then pure music!
Best review I've seen yet. I love the genuine reactions and enthusiasm. I have to tell you, I've owned this car for a few months now, and that feeling you guys expressed, is how I feel EVERY SINGLE TIME I take a drive, whether it be a spirited one or just a cruise. It's the most exhilarating car ever.
Whoa! Is this a guy that actually smiles in an expensive car?
@@akaadamrg not sure what that means?
It's a compliment. Congrats@@stav55
@@halo2bounceguy thanks man!
So many people hate on the top, but I love it. You can drive the car fully enclosed, Bimini top on only (so you can hear the intakes without getting fried in the sun), or full removed.
Super exciting car and I’m glad they made it, significantly more comfortable than a 4RS or GT3 for street driving - and you get a convertible! Big fan
This, but you have to own the car and try it. I love mine
@@bill9629 I have been fortune enough to put 2900 miles on mine and counting
Porsche makes the only automatic transmission that I would legitimately not be upset if I had to chose it over a manual.
The shifts are so quick!
They figure a skilled driver will lose ½ second per manual shift. Guess that really adds up after a few track laps.
@@danmayberry1185 No real driver error involved because of electronics = hybrid racing. Driver error fully involved by shifting = Racing.
IMHO
@@letsgetdoing Totally agree. It's meant to be "man and machine."
You had me at "That was just a butthole..." 🤣
Plugs are for (four) butts.
As someone who will NEVER get to drive this car, I can still get the feeling through this video. They do an amazing job conveying the true thrill of driving a machine that is made for a single reason and nothing else. PURE ENJOYMENT
You can. Just change your thinking and work towards it . Nothing is impossible
@@TheBENJAMIN1500 I’m good, don’t need to hustle my life away to buy a 200,000 dollar car. I’m not interested in devoting my existence to getting a single expensive car. That’s a poor distribution of resources given my life. I appreciate your encouragement but it feels misguided and rooted in “hustle culture” and I’m not a follower of that particular mindset
@@pruett89Opinions can change, just like your life can. One day 200,000$ might feel like a small investment.
The Spyders going to go down as one of Porsches best creations for sure, no bad angles and so much fun.
Throttle House, the most underrated channel for car enthusiasts. yall deserve over 10M subs
Agreed hands down you guys got a real good vibe. Can’t wait to meet you with my s2000 whenever you get to sf bay
If not more! 🙌🏼
They're perfect to fill the void of the clarkson, hammond and may
throttle house has become one of my favorite channels to watch, keep up the amazing content!
I love how much care and attention you pay to the audio, so many car channels just ignore it
I have a 911 and I agree that the Spyder looks better - there is nothing to apologize for Thomas. I also agree that the interior is just about perfect. Most modern cars have gone stupid with their interiors. This is functional, easy to use, and gives you what you need to enjoy the driving experience.
TH videos just keep getting better and better. The skits, the editing, the production level. Been subbed for 2 years ain’t going nowhere. Keep up the good work guys.
PROS: “Perfect race car….This places somewhere at the very top of the hallowed halls of Porsche history….compromised, confused, wonderful….dripping in desirability.”
CON: “You can’t use yourself”
When the Boxster was first released it was made fun of, maligned and looked down upon by everyone. (But anyone who knew, knew it was the best chassis along with the cayman that Porsche made)
Now in its last iteration it is quite simply… the best car Porsche makes today.
And maybe even one of the best they ever made.
Quite a 30 year journey.
I just love your reviews. They always seem the right mix of fun, road test and tech talk. I watch a good few car review channels and there are many good ones, but for me you’re out in front. Your chemistry just works so well, I went back and watched your very first video together and it seems to have instantly worked instantly.
Massive fan of the 718, but I am biased as I have one. Mine is a 2017 and the interior is simply perfect.
I was going to sleep, but then I saw throttle house uploaded 2 seconds ago.
Worth it~
It’s crazy like we know how special a Porsche product is just seeing they’re presentation photos. It’s this car’s case and the S/T’s. And they’re one of a few that bring those cars full of joy and almost perfect like this.
Porsche sales Saskatchewan, all the Porsches you could ever Saskatchewant is the funniest blooper/line I have ever heard!!
The sound from the interior is just INCREDIBLE. No more words needed !!
I just dont understand why porsche is not updating the interior on the GT4 RS😫
1:24 To be fair, when NASCAR was young, they did have a class specifically for convertibles, so it's not like there haven't been any convertible racecars before. And of course, we can't forget about the many topless race cars that used to be pretty common on racetracks all over Europe, particularly in endurance racing
Hands down you guys are the top reviewers, knowledge, energy and a true passion…..
I have long thought the Spyder RS was THE most desirable Porsche. It has the looks, it has the sound and no top means you can hear that GT3 motor in all of its raw intensity. Great video TH team!
Thank you throttle house for de-stressing me after a hard workday! I was so angry and frustrated but all I needed was clicking this video 😊
The fact the the valves weren't open and it was still this loud is insanity
This channel is quite possibly the best on UA-cam! Great job fellas!
Thank you for making this video. Thank you for sharing the giggling glee that is driving this car. I loved and shared every second of the experience. ADMs are coming down, so the FU for asking for one is now just lower case, instead of all caps. 😂
You pretty much nailed the summary (I am lucky enough to own one), and as my friend put it …it is peak ICE experience. It truly is that good. (And loud; I have noise canceling headphones for my gf for extended aggressive driving lol) On the highway with sport exhaust off, it’s no louder than any other convertible sports car, I don’t think.
Love you guys’ content. Be safe and well.
PS I do wish you had taken a hot lap time. It is still an RS and would be wickedly quick. Embarrassingly quick against other dedicated cars? Maybe. Did Porsche make you promise not to time a lap? lol
Fantastic review gents. This is a random comment to boost your channel engagement but imagine if Porche brought back the 944, it’s been a while since there’s been a Front engine Porsche sports car. Imagine the 944 turbo coming back front mid engine turbo straight four with a rear trans axle and fantastic handling.
With modern Porsche styling, and a bit cheaper than boxster, that would be so freaking cool
It's called an 86, cheaper than anything Porsche would ever make. Even has a boxer engine lol. Honestly a spiritual successor to the 944 in many ways, ofc just not a Porsche.
@@m1l3s2786 what?
I really really really Saskatchewant that car. Peak Porsche, peak sports car. 😍
The intro is so funny to watch actually 😂👍
Great review! Thanks guys. Btw, 493 bhp, 500 hp. Metric = hp, imperial = bhp. The German PS, Pferdestark, translates to English "Horse Power". In Finland we say HV, hevosvoima, which translates, you guessed it, horse power, hp. In Swedish they call it hk, hästekraft, and yes, it means horse power 😅. All metric. So no need to call the metric horse power "PS" in English (you didn't, but many do). Well, the whole concept of "horse power" is old relic and as we all know it's the kilowatts which is the official metric measurement. But I kind of like the old silly horse power scale 😊. Oh, yes, my Spyder RS is currently standing at the local Porsche Center. Delivery day is due soon 🤗. Btw, "the Tex Mex -thing" 😂😂👌.
I have to admit I gave up with Porsche as a brand since when I had a Boxster and a Cayenne, went to local dealer and asked about a GT3. The salesman was “polite” and said “well I can take a deposit but you’ll be the 100th on the wait list and I’m only getting 7 this year” 🤷🏻♂️ …. So I bought a McLaren 570 Spyder instead…but that’s another (other than the depreciation, a happy) story.
These gents are so good at it all. All aspects met, once again. Thank you!
From day one the spyder came out, I literally dreamt that Porsche was doing a RS version of it. And now it’s real. My absolute dream car. I would take it over any other sport/hyper car
Porsche Carbon buckets plus a 15degree seat risers that mount to the front and tilts you back a smidge = perfection. You're welcome.
The way I was thinking about some of my favorite Porsche models and then this video drops. Amazing 🎉!!
The pure joy of driving that car comes through in the video so clearly. Your just giggling like children, so great!
I know they’re in different leagues, but for some reason as an experience this immediately made me think of an LFA. Just, immediately slaps a smile on your face. Hats off Porsche!
the intro was absolutely diabolical
oi
Another best car review video you guys have done this year so far, reviewing the Porsche Spyder RS!!!🤩
I feel like this car is a "race car for the road" in the way people actually mean when they say it. Not what they think they mean but it's what we actually want and would enjoy.
All the noises, all the speed, all the feelings, and we don't hate life or need three days to recover... except maybe hearing.
The joy in your faces on that launch is pure gold.
This channel just gets better and better. Nice seeing James contributing some valued English wry humour along with Thomas and the fantastic canadian 🇨🇦 vistas
Both of u are really what OG top gear was doing for 20 years, thank you for adding humour to reviweing cars 💙
I think people should stop comparing them and anyone to top gear. Top gear is its own thing and cannot be replicated. TH has their unique style, which is great, but it isn’t like top gear at all lol
You two are the Canadian spiritual successors to the original Top Gear. Thank you for that!
11:06 Glorious!
I was not expecting the face time intro to go that way….. I may have lost some breakfast from laughter. Oh, and the review was good too.
I hate the decisions porsche is making but goddamn that colour and style works..
As a Saskatchewanian, this is absolute gold! Throttle House joining the likes of Deadpool 😂
That's a musical instrument, not a car, but it teleports
Always the best intros! For those who can't afford an RS or simply are unable to get one (because Porsche), can always grab a new Gold Wing motorcycle. No, it's not as fast, doesn't rev as high, but it has that flat 6 sound. That being said, this car is really really cool!
We need more of James and Thomas together in a car, I love their pairing sooooo much !
Thomas assessment: "At the very top of the hallowed halls of Porsche history." And all of us reply, AMEN!
That is the perfect interior. No buttons on the steering wheel nothing excessive, Apple/Carplay/Android Auto.
The exuberance of this video, amazing! Great review! Great car! Want!!!!
wow that filming/color correction is so punchy and beautiful!
Watching this video puts a smile on my face. I couldn’t imagine driving this.
Solid gold intros every time I love it
I mean how can you how can you feel anything about an electric car when you just cannot explain what it does but it just makes the person feel sooo much happiness I mean when I see this I feel happiness from them in their words. I dont hate the electric cars but damn does cars make you feel many things and petrol and diesel cars make you grunt maybe in the future but it makes us so happy.
Nice review! In Canada there are new ones sitting on dealer lots right now, maybe there are some deals to be had as we head into winter! Good luck to those who pursue, I'm sure it will be worth the trouble.
The ultimate posing machine! Great job by the way!
Throttle House has never made a truer intro
This really is the most useable golden era of interior styling. A smaller touchscreen. Knobs and real buttons to control things like volume and climate control. Nice seats. No piano black. It's perfect.
Y’all are the best entertainers on car reviews.
I love that UA-cam auto caption translates the engine sound as 'music'.
Thanks for dropping this video - was a nice break from hurricane prep this am!! (Watching from central Florida in the hours left before all h3ll breaks after Milton crashes into us...)
Perfect interior! The hateful trend for all screens, no buttons needs to die.
That intro sounded like an authentic experience 😂
A super cool bit of info…out of all the owners I know…they are all driving these cars. Despite the price tag and the possibility of appreciation, they are not sitting in garages collecting dust. The hard core enthusiasts pounced on these when they came out, and are driving the @#$& out of them. Mine is up to 3k miles after 2.5 months, and I am taking it for a track day Sunday. 🏎️
Holy crap those shifts are pure savagery. Like it’s trying to rip itself out of the car. Wow. We can all dream.
The way I was smiling at this video my family thought I was talking to a woman. This car (and their reactions) are pure joy!
I still don't understand why people want a gt3 or gt4 rs over the spyder. It looks better, sounds great, and you can use it more, it seems. It's been my dream car since it came out.
We want a comparison video with z06! We definitely need that! Please make that happen.
Agreed, it is much better looking than any 911.
I think the Corvette Z06 doesn’t get enough credit for being a full supercar due to its price and name.
I have Spyder RS and my friend Z06 with the package. Z06 is such a great car for $140k but they completely different experiences, I will have both. The Spyder RS is wild you have to drive one to understand the video
I have never been so excited and jealous of a fucking gearbox 😂 this is what every DCT wishes it was
Haha, that intro. That machine is just pure joy.
This is an excellent car. The intro was hilarious.
You guys nailed it in the intro….The 718 Spyder RS makes no sense in the RS family. Porsche should’ve dropped the last letter and called it the “718 Spyder R” (or anything else without the RS) with the GT3 6spd manual.
Agreed. This is B "M" W's fault, where the M stands for marketing.
R would stand for something different entirely, but I can imagine them calling this an S/T. But since this is also not a limited production car, they have to give two shits on marketability and there you go
Dear chaps,
Top intro,
Top motor,
Top review,
No notes!
Keep her lit gentlemen (Northern Irish for pedal to the metal)
Big cuddles
Conall ❤
Its not typical for a car through video alone to be so desirable based off what you here, and how the reviewers are responding to it. I’m convinced, I’ll take 20.
This is the funnest car Porsche makes right now
Come on gents buy one as the “Throttle House” test car!
these outtakes at the end give me Rush Hour vibes and I'm here for it!
THOSE ALLOYS ARE AMAZING
This is when engineers gather around and just decide to make the most fun and amazing car they can, and actually leave the sales to the marketing department. i like that
8:10 what a sick photo: of the hand and watch through the windscreen.
I have one paired with a 992 GT3…this Spyder RS is unique…had regular Spyder before with manual, cannot compare with this crazy kid
The suspension in this car is proof that weight really is the enemy of sports cars. A car with a low center of gravity, excellent weight balance, and a low curb weight doesn't need stiff suspension.
props to james for nailing the pronunciation of calgary
I went from C8 Z06 to a 718 Spyder RS and the Z06 engine literally feels and sounds dull compared to the 4.0L in this application. Outside noise I’ll still give to Z06 but inside the cabin that monotone buzz of the FPC did nothing for me personally. Also, the control weights in the SRS are Porsche perfect with lots of texture coming through the steering, chassis, and even brake pedal. It’s a good chunk more money but it’s absolutely a far superior “drivers car” and the engine alone with its out of this world range of different RPM sounds is worth the cost alone.
6:53 "And I was a cell phone" Thanks captions.
