@@ChaseTheHorizonYT I had a good time and came away with a favorable impression. That might sound like muted praise, but being less of a major city guy to begin with that is a sincere compliment. I do think my visit was held back a little by the colder-than-normal temperatures this weekend, and one of the bartenders at the Merchant and Trade rooftop claimed it was an unusually slow week immediately on the heels of the holidays with people saving their money, etc. Early in the evening Friday there did not seem to be a lot of customers/patrons at the downtown establishments (though later around 8 when we were trying to eat it was obvious a reservation would have been handy). Covered a lot of ground. Uptown, Fourth Ward (residential area), the Knights/Panthers stadiums, Latta Arcade area, South End, rail trail, Lynx system, Freedom Park, Dilworth, NoDa, Optimist Hall, 7th Street food hall or whatever it's called, Epicentre (which I know will be revitalized). NoDa's not my thing, but neither is Adams Morgan or Dupont in DC (cultural conservative here originally from Suffolk on Long Island -- that's part of my consideration as cities go, and I wonder if given the finance sector's dominance I might feel less political antagonism in Charlotte than I do around DC). I wonder at age 38 where I would vibe best in urban Charlotte -- because it's not like I'd move straight into suburbia, at least not to begin with. Semi-related, I suspect I'd be upper age range in South End. I tried to tour the Vue but they couldn't accommodate my schedule. I was a little surprised by the open parking lot adjacent to it, and generally some of the patches of surface parking near the center city area... but I assume those will be developed in the years ahead. Think I'll have to come back in the spring when it's warmer and check out the surrounding areas by car. I felt bad for all those girls walking around in cheerleader outfits (in the cold) as part of that competition. Definitely not used to living in/near a city where a single convention going on is so ubiquitous. I was disappointed that much of the grass in the parks (e.g., Romare-Bearden) was burned out for the winter. The grass farther north loses its luster but must be a different species because it remains distinctly green year-round. I don't know what was going on at Truist Field--it looked like they were building an ice rink in the outfield. Didn't really understand the allure of Coco and the Director, which I'd read was a hot breakfast sandwich spot. Had a good bacon-egg-cheese, but in New York one would just call that "breakfast." People seemed friendly, which matters a ton!

@@stevefuzz8464 my family and I were just discussing last night how cold it has been, unfortunate because it really warmed up today (was walking around in jeans and a t-shirt it was 55-60 degrees). You definitely seemed to have spotted a lot! And yes, at the baseball stadium they had a holiday event that you could enter and check out some local vendors, ice skate on the rink, listen to holiday music, etc. You certainly have to fit a certain domain to live in NoDa, I'm not sure I would be able to live there either. Coming back once it gets warmer is a great idea! I would also try to get to a soccer game if I were you. The atmosphere is always great. When it is warmer, Merchant and Trade gets so busy it is hard to even walk around some nights. I would also suggest stopping over at Plaza Midwood next time you are back! If you ever have any questions I will do my best to help out! 😁

Hey man, I'm from London, England & my girl & I, along with our daughter, are thinking of pressing the life reset button & moving to the US. Charlotte is looking real appealing & I came across your videos while doing some research into the city. I really enjoy your videos, as it's refreshing to see things about a place through the eyes of a newcomer to the city, as opposed to someone born & raised there. Just subscribed to your channel, & I look forward to your content man. And if we do end up picking Charlotte, just know your content will be a big factor in it. Keep up the awesome work! 👊🏾

Do you have any insight on the safety of Charlotte? I’m a single mid-20s girl and I’m very interested in moving to Charlotte. I live in Phoenix, AZ at the moment and I’m sick and tired of it here. But I have family concerned about the safety there. I’m planning on visiting in the summer before I plan to move, but I wanted to see what a recent NC resident thinks on the safety of Charlotte living! Thanks!

I have been living here for 6 months and have not yet had any issues. However, I definitely think you should do some research. In my opinion, most places I have been have felt plenty safe, but I also have avoided areas I read are more dangerous. Specifically, west Charlotte (from what I have read). Areas such as NoDa, Plaza Midwood, and Southend feel plenty safe, especially with the added feeling of community. Once you get outside of the city center, it is very easy to forget you are living in a city. I also avoid walking around late at night, as well as early in the morning. In general, I would say Charlotte is safe, however it definitely has it's higher risk areas! As does every city. I feel worlds safer here than in many other cities I have visited. I hope this helped! 😁
