I am taking a trip to Charolette in a few weeks and I am excited to go there. I live in Los Angeles currently but I have to say everyone I ever meet who lives or lived there always talks about it being one of the most dangerous cities in America and it is listed as such, how has your experience been and do you feel safe?

Been here since 1989 and we raised our babies happy here. It's our beautiful home and we just love it here.

I was born in Reading, PA, lived in the Poconos & then my family moved to the Charlotte Metro area in 1975, which was a culture shock, being the only "Damn Yankee" family in the town of Charlotte suburb, Harrisburg, NC, we were not welcomed by the locals. In 1979, IBM had relocated hundreds of New Yorkers to the Charlotte area, prompting the populous to consist of a higher percentage of Northerners to Charlotte & its surrounding counties. By 1983, the feeling that the Civil War memtality had finally ended. This, along with relocating to Charlotte, itself, created a massive & continuous flow of even more Northerners making the Charlotte area their adopted home. I had briefly moved back to Reading, to North Central Florida briefly a couple times & even to the Big Island of Hawaii 2011-19, having never been there & knowing no one there, within 6 miles of 2 active volcanoes, 100% offgrid (with no plumbing, solar power, zero internet, pitiful public transportation, an abysmal job market, cheap land, miniscule infrastructure, expensive cost of living & no signs of any of that improving, I returned to the Charlotte area (Lake Norman & Kannapolis). I must attest, I've lived in "paradise"(Hawaii), Hell (Florida) my rundown hometown (Reading, PA) & knew, before moving away from Charlotte as an adult, I considered Charlotte & the surrounding area, my home, but having experienced residing in vastly different places, I knew that my home was in the Charlotte area & that my chances of improved mental health & happiness were impossible until I returned to my "home", the Charlotte area. Whether, in the city limits or within the 8 county Metro Charlotte region, I only began to return to normalcy & hope for my future would significantly improve only, after I returned to the place I call home & will for the remainder of my life. That place, for me, is & will always be the best place to live (not just reside) in the United States, the Charlotte area. 😊❤

Haven’t moved there yet but plan to. My only complaint the three times I went is how small uptown is (which you mentioned). Only like a 7 by 4 street grid. But with how south end is developing, I’m sure it’ll grow into that part

When it comes to traffic here, you should probably be more patient. North Carolina is an open carry state if you know what I mean. Don’t make the wrong person upset. Also we southerners always run red lights and stop signs. Northerners tend to run it before the light turns green. The problem isn’t the lack of driving skills. It’s the lack of driving culture awareness. You have people from all over moving here and they brought their driving culture with them from where they learned to drive. I saw this when I lived in the Washington, DC area for 15 years. When it comes to food culture, we are mostly Scots-Irish, French, and German. We didn’t have a lot of Italians settle here. The notable exception are the Waldensians from Valdese, NC (my hometown) but they were from the Alps along the border with France so not a typical Italian culinary experience. The largest immigrant community here when I moved as a child in the 80s and 90s was Greek. Showmars was started by Greeks and run by their children now. They have some of the best gyros historically in the area.

I have never had NY Pizza but I'm pretty sure the owners of Hawthornes Pizza are from NY. They use to own a deli that I frequented before they opened their first pizza location across the street on Hawthorne at 7th St.

Definitely needs some good high end or boutique shopping. Shopping Uptown is non-existant. Restaurants and live music would be good for evenings.

I was considering moving up to that area, but I'm hearing traffic is getting too bad, overcrowded, and building everywhere. That's why I want to move from where I am.
