@@baha3alshamari152 What's more fascinating is that these former enemies of Islam fought for Islam with greater fervour than they did against it. Such displays of faith and devotion are pretty rare in history.

If you're an undergrad Adam then you really don't need to stress all that much. To say that undergrad history courses are a joke is an understatement. They don't go into detail on anything, just a general overview of major events and personalities. We spent maybe three hours on the entirety of the Roman era, for example, all the way from the beginning of the Republic to the end of the Empire. We never even went over the Muslim-Sassanid conflicts either, just a general overview of Muhammad's beginnings and his eventual conquest of the Arabian peninsula.

Like Sun Tzu said, deception is perhaps the strongest tactic of all time: “All warfare is based on deception. Can't help playing an armchair general and wonder why so many generals fell for the same tactic of feint retreat and ambush. Reconnaissance is probably an underrated aspect of war.
They might have done some scouting ahead in front of them and follow the Muslim army but didn't expect them to be in that ridge, since it is considered in their side and the muslims probably sneaked there at night.
Many reasons often different from one instance to the next. Overall though advanced battlefield maneouvers are very difficult and require a well disciplined core of veteran soldiers. We talk about the times it worked because it leads to these stunning victories that reshape history but we don't talk about the thousands of times it failed. A feigned retreat can very quickly turn into a real retreat and looks like one from an observers perspective so many attempts never even get recognized as what they were. Also the general knowledge of tactics and strategy that we enjoy simply didn't exist back then, they relied mostly on the experience of veterans to teach young leaders and the efficacy of this varies wildly. Lastly as you pointed out Reconnaissance was generally underrated. Rome was famously bad at scouting for several centuries as their noble born cavalry felt that scouting missions were beneath their status.
Remember messages and scouting reports had to brought manually back to the commanders and by the time they arrived there was a good chance the enemy had moved again. Communications weren't always anywhere near as fast as they are now.
A feigned retreat proposes a wager to enemy. Put yourself in the shoes of the Persians, they were getting grinded for like ages by the Caliphate. They were on defensive and destabilised. They needed something to turn the tables, something like a decisive victory. See how hard it would to leave alone enemy unscathed which could have been destroyed? Even if you consider the risks of a Feigned retreat, the temptation of the possibility of great victory can overwhelm you .It has happened many times in history a Victory fell short of being decisive because of caution. These are the moments which differentiate a good General from a Great one.

Absolutely incredible that the Persians were taken down in this manner. A 20 year war with the eastern Romans and a civil war literally right before the Muslims arrived put the Sassanids at an all-time low and constituted right place, right time for the Muslims for sure. But still, they were taking on the two superpowers of the western world at the same time and won both. Crazy. After this battle, the last Persian Shah roamed around from region to region trying to drum up support but was turned down at every point. Irán had devolved into a territory of warlords governing small kingdoms in Kazakhstan, Persia, and Central Asia. The Muslims would pick them off one by one. Yazdegerd eventually fled northeast into Turkic land and further to China. He was killed in Central Asia by a miller, in an armed robbery. So ended the great Persian Sassanid Empire.
It's like saying Madagascar defeated the USA after its war in Vietnam, no friend that's not an excuse at all. Persia had all the better and more resources, technologies, experience etc..., and almost in all the Arab vs Persia battles the Persian army had the higher numbers of army, better weaponry and even the defensive positions which is an advantage by itself, despite the better and shorter supply lines. Saying Persia was in war, civil war, and plague, all of these events occured on Arabs simultaneously, and in a more deadly percentage, due to the worse and more primitve health system than the one was in Persia or the SPQR, one of the stories that a full muslim army died out of the plague, and the civil war of Ridah killed most of the prophet companions, the civil war in persia was nothing comparing to Ridah wars.

The strategy of this battle and every step is just a masterpiece. The 2nd half of it involving the trap could not have been possible without the 1st two failed human waves which made the Persians actually fall for the trap, and unable to consider the possibility Muslims could flip the table around (which they ended up doing). Even on the brink of losing and the odds against em, the Muslims still managed to turn it around at the last second for a decisive victory. No doubt it had a huge psychological effect throughout the persian empire that God was really on the side of the Muslims.
You refer to Ali as Muhammad's son in law, but don't mention that Uthman himself was also Muhammad's son in law, twice over. He married two of Muhammad's daughters but they are less famous than Fatimah. But for the conquest of Persia, the civilisation of Islam would have been one-sided. The conquest of Persia gave us what the conquest of Greece gave to the Romans."

So glad you did this ! I couldn’t believe the Persians, with all their might and many nations could be beaten by the Arabic forces, yet it seems that the final battle was here at Navahand. There are no videos about this. Thank you K&G!
Always a pleasure to watch your videos, the amount of work that goes into them must be tremendous. Doing a famous or interesting battle is tough enough, but going through an entire period of history and maintaining quality throughout shows outstanding devotion to your work. It is much appreciated. Having said that, I do sense sometimes a bit of bias, for example, in the episode about the siege of Damascus 634AD.
Sassanid? First time I read that name outside of an actual paper book. It's very nice to see a channel that brushes more obscure subjects. These things also shaped world history. In fact, the Sassanian and the Parthian before them had an incredible influence on European (and central Asian history) influencing mounted warfare in what would both become the knightly kingdoms and the steppe people. (notwhistanding their cultural influence, such as a story of a round table with noble warriors led by a lord holding a magical sword, among many other tales...)
Even though they lost battles after battles the Sassnids still held dreams of restoring their empire and fought on knowing full well that their chance of victory is slim, you can call it foolish imperial pride but i think its quite remarkable that they still perserved
It’s kinda crazy how Romans and sassanids fought each other for centuries and none of them could defeat each other..until the muslims defeat both of them...god bless all true believers 💛 love from Kurdistan
Pity. After that much of Kurdish blood spelled for Islam. The Kurds are not still allowed to speak even their own language in some part of Kurdistan. Maybe it was better time for Kurdistan?

Umar is a very logical man. Albeit his decisions were sometimes controversial (e.g. Khalid recalled from military duty), it's always based on logic that unstopable military machine like him might have gained fanatic supporters unintentionally (khalid wasn't known as political man unlike Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan) if let loose for too long despite his contributions for Islam. That decision also opening up for another officers to shine. Truly, Islamic government was at its peak military and administration under Umar ibn Khatthab Radiyallahu 'Anhu.
Akhi we love Khalid radiAllahu3anhu but Khalid was only removed not because of hatred or envy as some western orientalist try to portray umar RA but it was because umar wanted to stop the rumors of Muslims wining battle after battle because of Khalid…when victory is only from Allah, but Khalid was just a means Allah used to grant victory to Islam and the muslims( rAnhum ajma3een) that’s the reason why its mentioned in our books of Hadith/fiqh- seerahtul sahaba and kutub Al jihad from mass transmitters. Western academia try’s to portray some sahaba especially umar as bad because a lot of Shia are in those institutions…They have this deep hatred that the blessed companions spread Islam and therefore deviated from the teachings of prophet Muhammad Alayhisalatuwasalam which is complete BS.
Despite that Arabs were fighting against Roman empire in multiple fronts in the same time too.
So basically they where weaker then ever before. Cool 😎 I mean good to know
All time low ?? The Sassanids were raising 60,000 armies every year lol, there's no excuse for they were swept away.
@@mebarkiimad8999 If you believe the Muslim sources on numbers for these armies, I have a Nigerian prince for you to talk to. The Persians could dream of 60k field armies, but 10k was more realistic. Anyway, yes. The Persians were most definitely at a very low point when the Muslims hit from the south. That’s what a 20 year world war style war, followed immediately by a devastating civil war, decentralization, and plague will do to a country. It was perfect place, perfect time for the Muslims, the way I see it.
very informative. love learning these. I'm inspired throughout the whole playlist featuring the early Islamic expansion, looking forward to exploring more! thank you @kings and Generals.
Apparently Sunnis and Shi'ites disagree on whether Muhammad's other daughters were biologically his, or from Khadija's previous marriage. This may be why Ali is presented as "the son in law" despite not being the only one to hold that distinction.
Technically, all the four caliph is have connection and become family to Prophet Muhammad PBUH. Abu Bakar and Umar is father in law of prophet while Uthman and Ali is the son in law of prophet
Lmaooo shias aren't even considered Muslims by a lot of mainstream sunni muslims, so their opinion doesn't really matter lol.
@@Ahadun_ahd Are you saying the Shi'ites opinion doesn't really matter? Their position is not unreasonable. Khadija was a widow and an older woman. It makes sense she would have children from the previous marriage and that she would be too old to have over four children with Muhammad.

Well they lasted a solid 400 years
It is always sad when a great empire breaks up or is conquered. They had the world in their hands and yet fell like any other.
Well if it helps, keep in mind that an empire is the private property of the archfigure of a rich family, thus while this was very sad for the House of Sassan (the ruling family) and their Knights, it meant little difference to the commonfolk as they still had to pay rent for land every harvest. Meet the new boss, same as or worse than the old boss.
They kinda paid for their arrogance towards the Arabs and needless aggression towards the Romans tho. All they and their overly ambitious kings brought to Middle East was instability and needless destruction. Suddenly declare war on Rome, sack a whole lot of cities in the Levant, crumble when the Romans caught a whiff of what was happening and watch Ctesiphon get sacked for the umpteenth time lol.
Their destruction doesn't sadden me. It brought centuries of much needed peace, prosperity, cultural and scientific growth back to the region.

We always hear only how Persians got defeated - but considering how long their Empire lasted they were for sure one of the top notch realms ever.
Do not be surprised how the Muslims exterminated one of the greatest empires in the history of the Persian Empire, as the Muslims in this formed a striking force with their new tactics in war and the determination of the desert men, whose physical strength was incomparable to others because they were raised in a harsh environment, namely, the desert that prompted them to master the arts of fighting since childhood and patience. In war, the thing that was not present in its contemporaries, in addition to the moral and spiritual strength that the Prophet Muhammad added to them and the strength of Islamic law that provides them with patience and steadfastness, even if they are few on the battlefield
@@mohamedbenmed8969 OH, I´m for sure not. I very well understand the how and why and the muslim armies have my full respect.
However, there were also other factors in the game.
But I wanted to point our another point in my original post: the Persians are always painted as weak in terms of war and mostly on the loosing side - like the defeats in the Greek-Persian wars or at the hand of Alexander the Great.
We should always remember that even the strongest will fall someday.

Our Muslim civilisation is a product of the cross-fertilization of the Semitic and the Aryan ideas. It is a child who inherits the softness and refinement of his Aryan mother, and the sterling character of his Semitic father. But for the conquest of Persia, the civilisation of Islam would have been one-sided. The conquest of Persia gave us what the conquest of Greece gave to the Romans."
