37:45 *A significant piece of detail here:* Umar, the ruler of the Muslim Empire, traveled to Jerusalem, not with a royal entourage of servants and guards, but with a _single servant_ and _one riding camel_ . During the journey, Umar and his servant took *alternating turns* ; riding the camel and *walking* . Umar wore simple, coarse clothes; *none* could have distinguished between the *ruler* and the *servant* . As he approached Jerusalem, it so happened that the servant was on the camel and the Caliph was walking alongside. The servant had pleaded with Umar to ride instead, but he refused. Someone had earlier advised Umar ibn Al-Khattab to wear luxurious robes befitting of a Caliph entering Jerusalem, his replay was "we derive our strength and status from our faith in Islam, and not from any dress."
@@zafran20 they don't..... Having few sources except the person who had it written themselves is rarely regarded as fact. Hannibal at the gates of Rome and the battle of cane is popular in history. Yet many historians agree that 1 historian who wrote about it 70+ years later and no archaeological evidence support it, means it likely never happened or was embellished. Viking mythology is another 1. It was all written by a German who never visited Scandinavia almost 100 years after the end of the Viking age. A lot of written history isn't exactly objective fact.
Words can not describe how great this documentary is. I was really amazed how you could combine all these battles and events in an interesting way and a perfectly accurate chronological order, putting in mind that it all happened in a relatively narrow period of time and a vast geographical range with one of the most complicated and crucial times in the history. Giving the fact that i'm a muslim, I even gained much more knowledge about this part of history than I have ever gained during my school history classes for 12 years. Thank you so much for this amazing job👏👏👏
Because islamic schools fill you up with nonsense. plus these barbaric wars should be an embarrassment for muslims. Proofs religion of sword and war is true
Damn history really is more exciting than any fiction when presented well. I've almost stopped watching Netflix after watching these. Thanks for this free and amazing series.
absolutely true. I also love how they use the total war games and their mods to show the soldiers and the battles at certain points. It makes it more cinematic and makes me feel like I am seeing into the past.
I watched Copa America final, UFC 264 & Wimbledon Final today. Sitting in front of my TV to watch the EURO final right now & I find out Kings & Generals uploaded a 2.5 hours documentary on Muslim conquests. Seems like I'll be going without sleep tonight.

This is how history lessons should be taught.this turns history from boring subjects into interesting and engaging stories, while containing valuable information.
The thing is that modern lessons are build upon student interaction students are supposed to form the basis of the lesson with teachers giving input. If you want story times we are back to lectures from the front of the classroom which is besides the point. Videos like these or the teacher telling stories can only be part of a lesson. How much do you still know from the video now that one month is passed? information retention and the development of competences are often less with videos or teaching from the front. Also these videos have the inherent benefit that you chose this topic and to watch this video. This means that you have an inherent interest. It is quite often the case that the same topics are seen as "boring" by others or even the same people just in another context like school since it is culturally expected that school is "boring" teachers" have way more work to do to win their "audience" over.
Yup, always good to read between the lines though. We often forget alexander the great was both merciful and brutal. He oversaw the enslavement and murder of many in his conquests, but conquered a huge empire. But later historians often chose to make him a hero.
@X73RM Well the muslim expansion is part of the current curriculum in all states I am aware of. On top of that comes that fact that the topics for history lessons are pretty much all eurocentric and that there simply isn't enough time to go through all of history in detail.
So there is room and and the encouragement to talk about aspects of the golden age of Islam. It is not that in depth, but no topic in history really is that in depth in school. And compared to other cultures like the Chinese, Hindu, South East Asian, African or precolonial American cultures, the history of Islamic culture at least is mentioned and discussed.
@Black Wolf definitely something everyone should be aware of, pretty much all recorded history is one maybe 2 perspectives, and a lot of history is recorded after the events depicted. on top of that theres no way to truly ascertain how much written records are factual, exaggerated propaganda, or outright lies.
“If a dog dies hungry on the banks of the River Euphrates, Umar will be responsible for dereliction of duty.” - Umar RA. If only leaders today were this responsible.
A subtle detail….AMR IBN AL’AAS and KHALID IBN AL WALEED where best friends of each other and they spent their youth together in Mecca living the good life as both were sons of rich men of the Quraish tribe…the coincidence was also that after many years they became Muslim at the same time…when KHALID was heading for the Prophet in Medina to accept ISLAM…on his way to Medina he encountered AMR and both were amazed to encounter each other there on the path that they knew would change their lives for good. It’s amazing to me that both the men after the passing of the prophet with many years have been such successful generals in their military campaigns
57:50 It’s not that Omar was afraid that people will worship Khalid (that is an exaggeration) Omar was afraid that the army will connect victories to Khalid and yet losing faith after his death
@@mfayz980 And what of the person he killed who was also a companion of Muhammed. Khalid killed Malik and enslaved his wife. This angered Umar greatly that he went up to Khalid and broke the arrows on his turban and threatened to stone him. Abu Bakr even paid money to the family of Malik which is admitting fault. Khalid was a hypocrite Muslim. Just because he won many battles, does not mean you should idolize him.
The longer the better!! I wish I had been watching these 30 years ago instead of a teacher telling me half truths and half of real history. Plus the attention to detail in the research for this channel is impressive! Thanks for all your videos
@@amaterasu6888 You don't win wars on 1v1 battles. Look at the history, Deylamites were undefeated when they were with the Persians (beating romans and greeks), then when they joined the arabs the arabs became undefeated. Then when they went to their homeland and were attacked by arabs it was the only place the arabs could never conquor (Deylam Iran). Look at what the arabs, greeks and romans have written about the Deylamite warriors, they considered them invincible. Since when have arabs been great conquorers or warriors? Never
The most difficult conquest according to the Arab generals Maslamah Ibn Abdel Malik and Qutayba Ibn Muslim was against Central Asia and the Caucus. Their fighters were absolutely relentless and fearless. Even as non-Muslims they had a warrior mindset because of their nomadic/mountaineer lifestyle.
@Roxana Sattari it's pretty hilarious that those unassuming bedouins from Yemen and Omar managed to overrun your empire and completely humiliate your people so much that even after a millennium you are writing sad comments like this.

Im from Southern Portugal and here we have a common word called "Rasia" = sounds like "Razia" , and it means: to pillage, take by force and devastation. Im astonished we inherited such an Arabic word from the time of Al-Andalus. Awesome xD
A lot of fights during that time were razias or skirmishes between cavalry by both armies. In southern iberia that was common due to the open plains you find in Alentejo and Andaluzia being a bit similar to north africa
@@muksimulmaad7413 no. Spain formed when most of the Kingdoms of the reconquista united, except Portugal. It has little more than 500 years. Before andaluz you had the Visigothic Kingdom, which had inherited most of the administration and language from the Romans
@@thelaziestguyuveverknown True we had the visigothic kingdom before, but they were very decentralised and didn't stand a chance against the umayyad expansion into the Iberian Peninsula. Almost all of the warriors are volunteers, and many of them are ascetics. Their commanders, among them also political leaders, are always the most pious, always participate in combat, and the most hardcore of ascetics. They are voluntarily poor as they love to donate all of their personal wealth to the cause of the state & its people, and at times would go on to routinely fast with only the sustenance of unfathomably little provisions. The Rashidun Caliphate armies do not need the kind of recruitment/incentivizing, feeding, and maintaining that all other armies need, and that is because of their impeccable faith. It is a difficult reality to fathom, as us people of "modern" times have grown comfortable with lavishness and abundant amenities. P.S. yes there were still wealthy merchants during their rule, as their empire is relatively prosperous. It is just that they cannot abuse their wealth to acquire power (like how the modern world is now), and the appointed leaders are selected based upon the merit of piety, wisdom, and knowledge. So much so that most of them (the leaders) are compelled to practice incredible degrees of asceticism voluntarily. Their empire is practically led by individuals with superhuman willpower and wisdom.
@TEE PERO then you have to bring evidence to show that he's been or might have been defeated before. The evidence we have shows he's never lost a battle.

I think this generation of men was nothing short of incredible. No formal military training, yet consistently excelling on the field of battle. Literally, “Companions” of the Prophet (pbuh), reminiscent of Alexander’s favourite unit. The unique ability to accept anyone into the fold of faith even after a battle, and the role of laws of war and equal citizenship helped them significantly in battle. Also, expanding so far with such slow communications makes all of this all the more impressive strategically.
Sometimes it feels people are chosen by God and they take over the world... Greeks, Mongols, British, Muslims, etc... every few 100 years someone new rise becomes the new top player out of nowhere.

Fun anecdote: Arabs were big on humour and poetic justice, with a primarily verbal culture. Poetry face-offs, debates, or roasts were the norm. Writing was hard in the desert bc of a lack of materials (leather), and paper wouldn’t arrive from China until they left Arabia.
@Roads Were Meant for Journeys When I wrote about poetic culture, I did so as an academic who's published in peer-reviewed ranked journals on the subject, so I take exception to the blanket 'ahistorical' dismissal. Arabs were Bedouins, and vibrant oral traditions among Bedouins and nomads is hardly something to be contested unless you have proof to the contrary. Regarding Philip the Arab and the Palmyrene empire, there's far more established literature that justifies, explains and studies the formation of Islamic religious heritage in the context of Arab culture without attributing it to Roman or Christian influence. Similarities between all Abrahamic religions prove a common eschatological framwork, not plagiarism as an often imperially-geared orientalist movement would suggest in making it a point to try and disprove, undermine or dismiss a faith group. Something unique to Western discourse on Islam. So what's your point bro, and please be specific if you want to have a discussion.
38:45 It's not apocryphal; where did you guys get this information? The citizens of Jerusalem welcomed Umar and the governor even prepared a grand event for it. There is an entire excerpt/narration of what occurred when Umar first stepped foot in Jerusalem, and he was met with admiration and surprise. Additional info : A lot of these records actually fit the Roman narrative as well. The Roman citizens were also the one to testify that the Rashidun conquests were almost bloodless outside the battlefields. EDIT : It seems that the author might've confused the Umar from the Pact of Umar II with Umar Ibn Khattab

Now close your eyes and imagine a world where the capitalist richest elites have to pay to the poor a percentage of their money, if Muslim (pay Zakat 2.5 of their earnings and poor people exempt) or non-Muslim (pay Jizya 1.5 of their earnings and poor people exempt) do you think there would still be world hunger? Do you think the non Muslims who live in these lands with their own criminal justice laws and their own churches and synagogues still allowed and protected by the muslims would live a better life or a worse life? Why do you think islam spread all over Africa and Asia to china without conquest?

@Rao Ahmed, The Last Prophet and Final Messenger (Blessings and Salutations be upon Him) is The Greatest Warrior in the history of the universe ( He single-handedly stood up to a force of 40,000 enemies soldiers at Hunayn, when his 12,000 fighters were ambushed; He single-handedly was able to rally his scattered troops , and Him and his troops then completely pulverized to smitherens the 40,000 enemies soldiers). Khaleed Ibn Waleed (RA / رضي الله عنه ) fought in more than 150 battles , and never lost a single battle!
@@rav9066 , I strongly believe, that your sentiment has being shared by Billions and Billions of others people (Muslims and maybe even non-Muslims like you, throughout history); Khaleed Ibn Waleed (RA/رضي الله عنه) was really treated worse than a slave , as he was brought back to Medina with his hands tied with his own turban ! Look at how this phenomenal and extraordinary commander ( the best and the greatest commanding general in the history of the universe, after the last prophet and final messenger, MUHAMMED (Salutations and Blessings be upon him /صلى الله عليه وسلم ) , was literally and figuratively pulverizing in rapid motions , the two greatest empires of the then known world , through myriads battles, with much inferior numbers of troops , , and with much inferior armaments/weapons! He even defeated the Muslims at Uhud ,before he reverted to Islam ! Khaleed Ibn Waleed was truly the sword of GOD ! The main reason , I believe , Omar (RA / رضي الله عنه) demoted him, was because Omar detected a nascent form of veneration towards Khaleed Ibn Waleed (RA), and Omar (RA) hated the cult of personality, and he didn’t want the people to think that all the myriads victories, that the Muslims were winning simultaneously against both the Roman Byzantines Empires and against the Sassanids Persians Empires, were due to Khaleed (RA). Omar (RA) wanted to smash this nascent veneration and cult of personality in its bud ; Look at how even nowadays, the Shias venerate Ali (RA) , even tough his leadership was marred by enormous civil strife, various civil wars , and societal frictions and malaise in Medina , that Medina has never known during the period of the last prophet and final messenger, MUHAMMED (Salutations and Blessings be upon him /صلى الله عليه وسلم ) ,or during the previous Rashidun Caliphates; As a matter of fact , some Shias nowadays venerate Ali(RA) as a god , ASTAGHFIRULLAH! In conclusion, Omar (RA) had to do it ,in order to dispel any notion of cult of personality , and smash any mythological deification of a human being, just like the Shias have done it with Ali(RA) .
@@sidibouchrit hmm I guess I see, the un necessary deification of Khalid due to his deeds and feats - maybe Umar HAD to choose the lesser of two evils but couldn’t there have been another way to deal with it 😔? Thank you for taking the time to write such a thought out response, I appreciate it

*A significant piece of detail here:* Umar, the ruler of the Muslim Empire, traveled to Jerusalem, not with a royal entourage of servants and guards, but with a _single servant_ and _one riding camel_ .

@X73RM That's from the "Kernlehrplan NRW"
"Sachkompetenz
So there is room and and the encouragement to talk about aspects of the golden age of Islam.
It is not that in depth, but no topic in history really is that in depth in school. And compared to other cultures like the Chinese, Hindu, South East Asian, African or precolonial American cultures, the history of Islamic culture at least is mentioned and discussed.

I am amazed at how the Islamic Arab armies were able the muster, arm, feed and maintain large armies in fields that were practically all deserts.
That's it they wasn't large armies

Khalid ibn al walid : arguably the "The Greatest General In History"🙏🙏
@Rao Ahmed, The Last Prophet and Final Messenger (Blessings and Salutations be upon Him) is The Greatest Warrior in the history of the universe ( He single-handedly stood up to a force of 40,000 enemies soldiers at Hunayn, when his 12,000 fighters were ambushed; He single-handedly was able to rally his scattered troops , and Him and his troops then completely pulverized to smitherens the 40,000 enemies soldiers).
Khaleed Ibn Waleed (RA / رضي الله عنه ) fought in more than 150 battles , and never lost a single battle!
im not muslim but it makes me sad to see how Khalid was treated after everything he did :/
@@rav9066 , I strongly believe, that your sentiment has being shared by Billions and Billions of others people (Muslims and maybe even non-Muslims like you, throughout history); Khaleed Ibn Waleed (RA/رضي الله عنه) was really treated worse than a slave , as he was brought back to Medina with his hands tied with his own turban !
Omar (RA) wanted to smash this nascent veneration and cult of personality in its bud ;
Look at how even nowadays, the Shias venerate Ali (RA) , even tough his leadership was marred by enormous civil strife, various civil wars , and societal frictions and malaise in Medina , that Medina has never known during the period of the last prophet and final messenger, MUHAMMED (Salutations and Blessings be upon him /صلى الله عليه وسلم ) ,or during the previous Rashidun Caliphates; As a matter of fact , some Shias nowadays venerate Ali(RA) as a god , ASTAGHFIRULLAH!
