I just started tying my own files. I tied 6 of these last week. This morning I caught a fish on this fly. It was the 1st fish I’ve caught on a fly I tied. Thanks for all the help. I couldn’t have done it without your help!
YES!!! That is what it's all about!!! I still remember the first fish I ever caught on a fly I tied! That is a big deal for a fly fisherman and fly tier. Congrats!
I've got to say I'm a subscriber on UA-cam and I've watched all your euro nymphing videos and they've helped so much. I've gone from catching 2-3 fish on what I thought was a dead fished out stream to catching 13 fish an outing. It might not be a ton for some people but it's amazing to me. Thanks for all the help! Really means a ton
@@paulconte4234 I had some winter and snapback hats made up last year but they're all gone except 1 snapback hat (the one I wear in most of my videos). I was looking at doing some more. Problem is there are a lot of hoops to jump through to really set up a merch store... and I haven't had time to figure all of that out yet. I do plan on figuring it out at some point since the channel has grown so much in the last year or 2. I've had a fair number of requests for merch but have some work to be able to do it right.
Super simple and really effective. I had a day this spring where I caught 20 bows in about 90 minutes and they all took this fly. I didn't matter what fly I used as my other fly... ever single fish took the walts worm! Crazy... 😂
Just started fishing again after a 35 year hiatus after my big brother tutored me earlier this year. He is teaching me the euro method and he has gotten me hooked (pun intended). I have been using the Walt's worm with success and a black Frenchy. While I am not ready to start tying my own flies yet, I do find it interesting to watch and learn how it is done. Great vid and hope to see more tutorials on the stream and in classroom or your basement or wherever you tie those flies. Keep up the great work.
Thank you! :) My "studio" is in my basement... I finished my basement on my own over the course of 2 years. Still some small odds and ends to finish up.
I love a good fly tying video. I am a big fan of simple “guide flies” tutorials and would love to see more of these. this is a great and easy fly pattern. keep it up!
Thank you! 😊 This fly was my hot fly this weekend. I caught over 20 fish on the same walts worm and at the end of it the fly still looked like the rest in my box. I'm not sure how it caught so many and didn't get torn up.
Wow I tied a variation of this using olive brown ice dubbing I a very very new rookie to this style if fishing Incorporating the lessons learned in your 5 mistakes video I landed 31 brown trout this morning Incredible lessons Thank you I am looking forward to your video for beginners
Yeah, I'm going to request similar flies like a few subscribers, Euro-nymphs, wet flies and a variety of nymphs. Love all your vids! Keep 'em coming bud!
Looking forward to your Euro Series. I would like to see more of these consistent producer flies and fishing technique. Want to master the presentation. Be in the Zone!! Quality work friend. Thank you.
I love to tie, and use traditional wet flies, and bucktails. Lately I have been really getting into euro nymphing, as for videos,I would like to see those types of flies tied.
It is interesting how a hot spot can work against you on heavily fished waters. I’ve noticed this on the Green in Utah. Great tie. Great advice as always !
Yeah... Definitely! The more pressured fish are, the more realistic I go! I have a pretty heavily pressured river near me and I especially notice it with salmon and steelhead that have been hit hard too.
Well aren't I lucky! Thanks a lot for doing the giveaway and I am honored to have won. Crazy odds, but I will take it. I think with this hat the fish will give me more street cred, thus more fish in the basket :) Glad we both stumbled on to each others channel and support each other. Hopefully one day we share a stream. In the mean time I will keep supporting as best I know how. Tight lines and keep up the amazing work my friend!
😂 I'm not sure I bring any more street cred than you do man! Definitely glad we stumbled on each other's channels! I'm sure one day we'll share a stream together! 🙂
First time watching and enjoyed your explanation of bead, wire and dubbing differences. Your video was recommended by William Miller of PHWFF, Murfreesboro, TN.
I like the straight forward construction and commentary of Walt's Worm. Maybe a little more explanation for beginners, like why the lead weight, drop rate of inches per 10 seconds etc.
Cannot wait for the next couple videos! Need to tie a few of these guys too for my Catskills trouts. Keep up the great vids cause there is always something to learn!
I have a whole euro nymphing series that I made specifically. I have the whole series in order in this playlist. Would love to see some of your favorite flies for wild browns and how to tie them, maybe also for brookies. That’s where I spend most of my time, fishing smaller water for wild browns and brookies.
Check out my foam caddis fly tying video! It is pretty much the only fly I use for small stream browns and brookies! If you like the small stream stuff I have a ton of it on the channel! I recommend starting with this one. ua-cam.com/video/HfxpOVxzj7Q/v-deo.html
Love the walt's. Can you show how you tie a pheasant tail variation? I'd also like to see one of your favorite euro dropper flies that you would pair with the heavy walt's or PT. Thanks.
I had a knee replacement last week, but I’m back up and tying a bunch of trout nymphs for when I can get back on the water. What really shows me down is the step of getting a slotted bead on a jig hook. For a simple tie like this, it might be half my time is getting the bead on. I wonder if you have a standard procedure. I have a bead nabbers tweezers with a sliding lock from Jade River, and an angled tip tweezers, also tried using the vise to hold the hook, but it is strangely awkward for me.
Interesting. I just hold the bead in one hand and hook in the other and slide it on. One problem I have is my carpet is so think that if I drop a bead it is gone forever 😂
I haven't done that combination on this fly but lots of fly recipes will use a little peacock herl at the collar. I have no doubt it would catch fish. It tends to be a little delicate and may come undone after a fish a 2 though. I'll often use a peacock ice dub instead of the herl as you won't have to worry about it being delicate.
A hare's ear typically has a tail, gold ribbing and a gold bead if you use one. Not that this fly is really that much different but there is no tail, copper ribbing and a dark bead... In the end they are incredibly similar (as are most nymphs).
Been watching and tying, thx for the well done videos. Waiting for part 3? Question ref sexy legs. Are you using euro nymphing when you fish it, what other fly do you use with it? I assume the sexy is on the point. Meet em coming, Gerry
Yes... the Sexi Stone is almost always my point fly when I use it and I have it on a lot when I'm euro nymphing. It is especially good in waters with bigger bugs like stoneflies. I am planning to sit down and edit Volume 3 this week. I'm not sure when it will be out but sometime next week at the latest assuming everything goes well :)
I use barbless hooks most of the time so they slide on pretty easy. If you have a barbed hook sometimes the barb can get in the way of getting the hook on. You want the smaller opening of the bead going toward the hook eye. A lot of people use slotted beads for jig style hooks. I don't because of the way I slide the lead wraps into the bead.
I honestly didn't know what straggle string was until I googled it lol. I have seen that around lately but I haven't used it yet. Looks pretty cool though. I may pick some up and play with it!
I don't have regulations that restrict me from using 2 flies on my rivers. If I had to only use one fly... VIDEO REQUEST You’ve done a Salmon River Salmon video. How about a how to euro nymph Steelhead video for the Salmon River. And or perhaps a video showing the way you would fish the Sandys(or other River) compared to the Salmon River. Thanks
At the time of this video I was using countersunk beads because the lead goes into the bead and it works well. I have since changed to slotted tungsten beads which I would recommend...although either can work.
No particular reason. Any number of dubbings will work well. I'm using the Senyo Laser Dub (Dark Tan) most of the time now. It has a little more flash in it.
Countersunk beads actually work well on a jig hook. The point of a jig hook is that the hook point rides up and it most certainly does with the beads I use. I like those beads because I slide the lead up into them and it secures everything nicely.

Definitely a solid pattern.
I like pheasant tails and hares ears.
In new zealand we call these a hare and copper. Big fan and favourite fly. Although we want the fly to be buggier and more rough looking
Cool! I have a few that are more buggy looking but to be honest I don't use them much. These work so well here.
Hmmm I might try making mine less buggy and see if it makes a difference 🤔, could be what catches me more fish

Yes! You can wrap a collar on these flies and add some movement to them. You see a lot of nymphs tied like that!
Nice
i,m tying my first walts worn. how much does ribbing color affect the fishability. My go to fly is zebra midge.
I doubt it matters much at all really.
Prince nymphs
Question, with the jig hook, does it make the swim with the hook up or does it just tumble thrushes water and rocks? Thanks!
The hook point rides up with a jig hook and can reduce hang ups... although they still happen.
Also what size range do you tie these in?
I tie these in size 14. Most of my normal nymphs are size 14 or 16.
Have you tried peacock herl instead of the hotspot and has it worked?
I haven't done that combination on this fly but lots of fly recipes will use a little peacock herl at the collar. I have no doubt it would catch fish. It tends to be a little delicate and may come undone after a fish a 2 though. I'll often use a peacock ice dub instead of the herl as you won't have to worry about it being delicate.
Nice fly and video by what makes it a Walt’s Worm versus a beaded hare’s ear ?
A hare's ear typically has a tail, gold ribbing and a gold bead if you use one. Not that this fly is really that much different but there is no tail, copper ribbing and a dark bead... In the end they are incredibly similar (as are most nymphs).

great viedo .. What vice do you use?
I use the Renzetti Traveler Vise: amzn.to/2VuLOB2 I love it!!!
Pheasant tail #20.
The PT is probably one of the best all around flies!
In Appalachia, we are most successful with zebra nymphs and frenchie nymphs
Is that a renzetti traveler you’re tying on?
Yup!!! I love it!
👍 That’s one of the vises I’m considering as a long overdue upgrade for my old, hand-me-down Thompson
New to the channel!
I was wondering how do you do EuroNymphing in rivers were 2 files aren't permitted? (Only one hook, no tandem)
I don't have regulations that restrict me from using 2 flies on my rivers. If I had to only use one fly... I would probably go a bit heavier with maybe bigger tungsten beads... or may lighten the leader material and do more of a micro leader so the heavy leader doesn't pull the flies toward you too much.
Can also use a split shot in place of the point fly if you are having trouble getting your flies down.

Countersunk beads actually work well on a jig hook. The point of a jig hook is that the hook point rides up and it most certainly does with the beads I use. I like those beads because I slide the lead up into them and it secures everything nicely.
