Ive been fishing my whole life for a true stream brown that big and havent caught one yet...24" is my biggest...you are a true sportsman worthy of your fish...your whole concern was how delicate the fish was and what it meant to release it and how important that was...so much class...
@@themichiganangler4746 This video shows the tremendous aggression that a mature brown takes when triggering him in his territory. Been hitting the hogs for years with big streamer flies that trigger this type of fish to set off their aggressive response. Much like bass fishing or big cat cat fishing they try and hit that bait and stun it then repeat for the meal. Kelly Galloup from T.C. Prior owner of The Troutsman Flyshop now called the Northern Angler Flyshop owned by his protege Russ Maddin are two well known (now famous) Michigan big brown streamer fisherman. Haha that's as big as anything you will come across here in the us as far a creek browns go. Amazing girth for a winter wish as well. I think he was 26"-28" if I had to guess
That was huge!! Saw Ross down at the dam tonight and he told me about this, couldn't wait to watch it. Good job in the catch and release. Congratulations!
@@themichiganangler4746 I ran into your video trying to learn about fishing for trout in Michigan, I haven't done it since I was a kid. Now that we are forced to buy the trout stamp I thought I would look into it. After several hours of figuring out the regulations I have a few target locations in mind. Looks like the micro-worm works well.
Back in October I caught my record brown 31 inches 11lbs. Everyone was asking me why I put it back I just looked at them in disbelief. I never seen a trout that big in the creek I wasn’t about to take that! Found out it was a record for that creek later but I don’t care I’m glad I released it after taking photos
I just started trout fishing. I fish in lower Michigan and wouldn’t even dream of catching a brown like that. It’s fun to use spinners but I’m so bad at it!
I remember when I was 12 i spent most of my childhood waking rivers and streams. I caught 2 that size in one day. I will never forget it my entire life. I have never come close to ever again.
@@themichiganangler4746 I didn't know how rare it was. They were both released. I still see a few smaller ones in the same area her sw mi . But the property is all privately owned now.
Well done!! That's one helluva fish!! Close to 30" all day long. Every time he headed for that log I was yelling Nooooooooooooooo !!!!! lol Little bit of advice, grab one of those small trout nets that attaches to your belt. Absolute lifesaver in situations like that. What did you have on there for bait? I couldn't quite make it out.
That fish is absolutely gorgeous! If Steelhead have access to the creek then the Brown also has access to be a lake run. So can't say for sure it's a resident or not. If I had to guess though it's a lake run.
Well you're thinking that it is a resident is most likely based on the color and the shape. But neither of these are distinct differences between lake run and resident Browns. Also before Brown planting was ceased in southern lake Michigan, the DNR stocked the same strains as are currently planted as land locked residents. The fish you caught is a post spawn male, that's why hes colored up and thin. We have zero way of knowing if that fish has ever ran to lake Michigan or not for sure. So you assuming it is a "stream trout", "resident" is only a guess like mine.
@@rossvolker In my experience fish do the unexpected time and time again. The "Lake run" Browns I've caught in a river have been in March and April on the St. Joseph river. I did get one possible LRB in July one year Skam fishing also. Not all fish do the same thing at the same time. They don't play by the rules you have set in your mind. Ive seen coho full of eggs caught just this week, and a river king also. As for the data Michigan keeps a fish stocking database free to the public. Also lots of WI guys catch LRB in tributaries well into the spring. Sometimes pre spawn full of loose eggs, etc.
@naturalangling Feel free to share this video with all of your trout buddy’s and see what they think! If they say it’s a lake run I’ll change the title of the video to I’m an idiot who can’t identify a fish. Thanks for watching and make sure you subscribe 😀👍

Ross, c'mon man!
Epic fish!! Thanks for sharing the video and great job taking such nice care of it. Best trout catch video I have ever seen.
3 years late but, wow, what an amazing trout. Great job minus the landing net. That fish was pushing 7lb for sure.
Wow. I live in Northern Michigan and that is easily one of the biggest browns ive ever seen. Great video man
