My father-in-law SSgt Robert Renton, was a member of the Marine Corps Band at Pendleton in the early 70s, after serving two tours as a Grunt in Vietnam. He is now in an assisted care facility in Canton, SD with dementia. His birthday is this week.

In 1969, months before my separation, my platoon was ordered to march in numerous retirement parades. I was a salty sergeant and most of the platoon shared my swagger. Our platoon commander, a young 2nd lieutenant, would sweat and worry about our upcoming grand stand passing. When the band played the Marines Hymn the platoon strutted past the general as if we were at Headquarters Marine Corps in Washington. The general's office would call the company and praise our performance.
When I was stationed at Headquarters Marine Corps, in Arlington. My company (Guard), was taught , with the M 1Rifle, to do the exchanges, and flipping. At that time our Commandant was General Should. He saw us on our parade ground, was impressed by our performance. We had our own little band, and it always brought us all to a certain point when certain songs were played.
I misread your original comment. My tired eyes saw "National Anthem" not emblem. You are right, they should and I do. And as a 20 year Navy veteran, I also render a hand salute as long as I am wearing a cover (hat). Sailors and Marines only salute while covered. The rendering of hand salutes by veterans was signed into law by President Bush in 2008 for the 2009 Defense Appropriations bill.

Disgusting how any organizer of a parade of this magnitude would have horses, and yet, have no one immediately following them and picking up. Ridiculous and disrespectful for the unit behind them.
Wow ganda Po san Po yan you out and I'm sure it would be out sir r you want it tomorrow right now right after you out and I'm not going to bed yet and I'm going to bed yet but Love you out of
I had the same thought. No logical reason and, if it must be, sanitation workers should be behind the horses to pick up after them. I remember watching parades in NY as a boy and seeing the sanitation workers take care of this.

That was really well done and so smart, but why o why do the American sort of 'Mince along' and not march properly- The heel should strike the ground first, not the flat of the foot. The foot should be at an angle of 45 degree outwards, not pointing forwards. No other army in the world minces along like that!...A pity really!
@@bossboygrabs9784 I served with the Marines, British and American but USMC march wrongly. Too many Hunch backs and the heel does not 'crack' the ground'''as it does over the rest of the world's armies! You need to borrow some British or German Grenadiers to get it right!
The band does an excellent job. Questions: Why is the color guard so far ahead? Can't the color guard wait until the band draws closer? Why in the world can't the parade committee clean-up after the horses? It is not fair to all the marchers that follow! Disgusting and unnecessary.

Our US marines fill my heart with such pride. Semper Fi
That is something to really take pride in. Everyone should thank a service man and woman for our freedom.
Our US marines fill my heart with such pride. Just wanted to thank The United States Marines for protecting our Nation...from Chicago,Illinois.
Reminds me of when I was in an army band marching in a parade in Montana, I think every horse east of mississippi has used the street as a bathroom.
They take my breath Way thank God 🙏 for them

They didn't play The Star Spangled Banner.

What's the title of this march? Can anybody tell me? Thanks!!!

National Emblem, Trio March

The people on the sidelines just standing there as the United States flag goes by should be with right hand over the heart!
Or (by act of Congress) a hand salute by veterans.
They don’t have to

These are dress blues. Dress Blue deltas for hot weather or more casual setting. But I get it. The version with the full coat and belt looks sharp 👍
Why would anyone in their right mind put the horses in front of a marching band???
