I marched with my high school band in the 1963 Rose Parade. The band in front of us was the Marine Corps band. Those were the days that the Pasadena City College band led off the festivities as the host band. Anyway, when you march the parade it isn't just the five plus miles of the actual parade route. You add in marching down the assembly road that runs parallel to the parade route. It can be seven miles or more. Well we get to the end of the parade and the finish area we stopped at was where the Marines had stopped. I was dying and so was most of our high school band. Then our conductor, a former Marine bandsman himself, pointed over to the Marine band. They looked so fresh and relaxed it was like they hadn't even marched in the parade. The Marine band was half our size and put out three times the volume. So discouraging for a 16 year old. I quit the band and joined the Marine Corps. Semper fi Sgt USMC 0311 1964-1970
I don't care how many times I've seen it...there's something awesome about "that start". The uniforms, the salute, the music begins, all well and good. But, when the leader gives the signal with the staff, and they all take that first step......I am so very proud and overjoyed. I'm old enough to be a parent to many of them, and consider each one like a son or daughter. God bless and keep all of those who protect the rest of us!!! Semper Fi!!!!!!!!!
Not many people know they should stand when the US flag passes in front of them. As a Marine, I take great pride in the fact that Marines are quick to stand at attention when the Marine's Hymn is played.
As much as "etiquette for the flag of the country that you live in" may be available on the internet....................putting certain aspects of the state and national government of the country that you live in in the pages of daily newspapers all over your country would get seen be the masses. Using the front section of the newspaper every week for about one whole year to post things like the entirety of The Declaration Of Independence, The Constitution Of The United States, profiles of every president, the name of every state and the geographic location of the capitol city of that state would get people to learn more about "civics" than they currently know. I think one part of the problem (because I have this problem myself) is that people aren't interested in going through the process to keep learning this stuff after high school is over. If it isn't "thrown in your face when you least expect it to be" you'll never decide to go out and search for it yourself. So put it in the newspaper one Saturday every month of the year for the next 4 years or so and people will eventually get around to sitting down and reading the whole thing in their spare time. For example, take a map of all 50 states and color each state a different color than the other 49. Then do a small bio on each state (not necessarily the names of the individual government officials at that time as much as general information about that state and its general history where that information won't likely change for the next 50 years or more) and place all 50 bios on 2 pages in the front section of the daily newspaper in every county in the country. A few weeks later an article on the proper display of the U.S. Flag in every specific type of display that is possible Considering that some people don't know that you're not supposed to fly the flag at night if it isn't lit by direct incandescent light). If I could ever become a member of a government group that serves a population larger than 5,000 I would suggest that in the daily newspaper in that part of the country.
I am Air Force and I can agree with what you say. I have a very nice story about that actually, albeit Young Marines but they do seem to follow the USMC's spirit and discipline pretty well for a youth group. I was in the Honor Guard and we were out doing a colors ceremony for a WW2 memorial. As we suited up, set up, and started marching out to the site, a group of Young Marines were waiting in a parking lot for their own part in the ceremony. As we passed by, their cadet squad leader immediately rallied the rest, formed them up by the road as we marched by, and called them to present arms until we had passed. Very impressed by that. If a bunch of young cadets can do this, then the USMC as a whole is a very impressive branch.
I've never served in the military, but this sent shivers down my spine and put a lump in my throat. God bless all of you, and thank you for your service.

When I joined 4th grade band as a drummer, the first thing our instructor taught us was a medley of Anchors Aweigh, The Marines Hymn and Caissons Go Rolling Along. Played it with pride. Instructor was a WW2 Vet. I always remember how I banged that piece out with authority and precision. He knew I got it. Can still play it like he taught me 36 years later. Love it! USA!
This is by far the best military marching band in the US. I always look forward to seeing this group step-off the Rose Parade. I only wish the band played the van Loock arrangement of the US Marine's Hymn.
Remember that in addition to being fine musicians, each member of the band is a qualified USMC Rifleman. Any specialty you may acquire as a Marine, you have to be a rifleman first, last and always. In many cases, fleet Marine band members went ashore with the assault troops and acted as stretcher bearers in battle situations, and assisting Navy Corpsmen in treat the wounded.
As President Harry Truman once said, "There never was a photo op that any marines missed" (or something to that effect). They always seem to be where the video and still cameras are!!
@@mgbsecteacher I've heard that the Marines' PR skills are second only to their fighting ability. Indeed, those PR skills are why they exist today. After WWII, the Army top brass, Truman, and Eisenhower tried to absorb the Marine Corps into the Army (at the time, the Commandant was not a member of the joint chiefs of staff; he was only consulted on matters related to the Corps.); the Marines mounted a PR campaign with Congress, and as a result they passed a law mandating the USMC with a minimum of four divisions.
Our fire dept had a band--mostly "ex military musicians"---a relative small group---BUT THE BIG SOUND was a treat when our band marched smartly--in a parade. That was a long time ago--the younger firefighters are NOW---bagpipers. I sure do appreciate the posted Marine Corps videos ---great performances!!!

Aye, it's sad that modern society doesn't give military personnel the respect they deserve anymore. There are also less 'Thank you for your service' statements nowadays, but it's the society we live in.
I was at a Rose Bowl in 1978 and I saw the Michigan and Washington bands, and a whole bunch of High School bands, go by. But I'll never forget when the Marine Corps band went by because their marching was so precise compared to the others it was unbelievable. On a whole other level.
As always--and you know of my admiration--you rock! THANK YOU!! You're absolutely THE BEST out there!! Camera skills and sound....beyond great. Thank you to your dedication to the pageantry arts.

memories. my father's 21 years in the USMC from 1939 on, and my 21 years navy serving with some of the world's finest USMC professionals in the gator fleet and afloat security forces. pride and patriotism many citizens will never know.
This incredibly beautiful performance gives me the shivers. Just great, great, great.
Thanks Music213 for all you do 👏
Adding the evolution of Marines battle gear at the end was great.
Yes agree,as I'm not a citizen of the US, l understood the dough boy from WW1,W11, Korea Vietnam and so on but I'm not familiar with the first. one, does it have any connection with Roosevelt, cheers from Australia
Wayne Neill The very first uniform shown is the uniform worn during the American Revolution.
@@wayneneill4994 first one is American Revolution, second was US Civil War
@@wayneneill4994 The first was the US revolutionary war marines, then US Civil war Marines, then the Spanish American war, then doughboy, etc.
@@fullfog6372 Sorry, but I've just been reading about 'the Rough rider,
When I joined 4th grade band as a drummer, the first thing our instructor taught us was a medley of Anchors Aweigh, The Marines Hymn and Caissons Go Rolling Along. Played it with pride. Instructor was a WW2 Vet. I always remember how I banged that piece out with authority and precision. He knew I got it. Can still play it like he taught me 36 years later. Love it! USA!
The USMC hymn always gives me chills. I remember first hearing it live in DC and it kinda shocked me a little haha
Defile de Las rosas , cuidad de pasadena, California.
@@mgbsecteacher
Truman was a failed haberdasher, and was eaten up with jealousy for the Corps.

everyone is an 0311, and can revert to that when necessary, talking to some who were at Chosin that is exactly what they did.
I wasn't a Marine but a number of my best friends are and the Marine Corps Hymn is far and away the most moving of the anthems
Not to nitpick, but just so you know, it is not the Marine Corps Hymn, it is just the Marines' Hymn.
MY FAVORITE YEAR FOR THE MARINE BAND.
After 46 years and I here this song it stills makes me proud
T Toller 50 years ago I became a United States Marine, and still to see a Marine band ,still makes me so proud
And choked up. Semper Fi ,OOORAH!
But o v course
T toller once a Marine and a Marine family always a Marine
Tack för en trevlig stund tillsammans kram
That’s me in the WW2 uniform. By far one of the coolest things I’ve gotten to do as a Marine.
Awesome
Loved the USMC uniforms trailing the band
Love to see them playing with the Royal Marines band.
I am so proud of being American although I am a Canadian
All I can say is Damn those lines are straight! Well-done!
Circunis and Norma is always the rule with these guys . No exceptions .

In my city people are very patriotic. Military City USS San Antonio, Texas Everyone stands and salutes even the kids honor the flag.🇺🇸❤🇨🇱
That was beautyful my brother was a marine back in the sixtys and he died in April 2018 the Marine Corps sent an honor guard to the cemetery it is true the Marines take care of their own.he loved the Marine Corps.
Thank you for your brothers service. God bless your family.🇺🇲🙏🏼
This always gives me chills. I have a lot of friends who are/were Marines. Semper Fi, guys!
+Mike Serot I have never seen marines riding horses before. Are they not a naval unit? Take a look at British marching bands they are great.
Mike Serot r f ff
No such thing as “were Marines” once a Marine always a Marine. 🇺🇸
Mike Serot Thank you. But, next time could we say Semper Fidelis?
talboters44 we are not much like the Britts, but, yes, we do have a detachment Mounties.
I am former marching band 69 Paete,Laguna.
In my day when a military band would pass everyone would stand and ALL the men would take their hats off to show respect. I miss those days
Aye, it's sad that modern society doesn't give military personnel the respect they deserve anymore. There are also less 'Thank you for your service' statements nowadays, but it's the society we live in.
Bull shit
I live next to the former USMCAS Tustin and they used to pratcie there. We got a free concert a couple of time a year!
This is for you grandpa Marshall RIP 😢😢😢😢 i will always love you
As A Brit - Excellent. Boy's (and girls) to be proud of. Even I felt moved.
Tears to my eyes every time I veiw/listen to this video.
It was so mutch fun to have the US Army band play here in norway and to get chance to see them play live
Iwas not a Marine. But i am very proud of that magnificent band.
❤ 1971 to 1973 MY husband was Was in the USMC. he past away in 10 2 2019 from cancer
I teared up just watching this when they started playing the Marine Hymm
Served 20 years in the Navy as a corpsman. 6 of those years with the Marines. It was the toughest and best 6 years served during the Vietnam era.
I just turned 80, I don't tear up, I cry like a baby when they hit that first note of the hymn! The crowd knows, just listen to them roar.
Videos like these are the reason i'm enlisting in the marines.
Great Job Marines. I'm Proud of all of you. God Bless!
I love how they did the past uniforms
I was at a Rose Bowl in 1978 and I saw the Michigan and Washington bands, and a whole bunch of High School bands, go by. But I'll never forget when the Marine Corps band went by because their marching was so precise compared to the others it was unbelievable. On a whole other level.
Was in the USMC from 1975 to 1983 and saw many bands play. SEMPER FI Brother and Sister Marines Ooh-Rah.
thanks for posting - I still like the older arrangement of The Marines' Hymn that the bands used to play.
I am double proud! I became a U.S. citizen when I was promoted to corporal in the Marines, 1975. Never been prouder.
Like to see this band and the Royal Marines massed bands perform together.
As always--and you know of my admiration--you rock! THANK YOU!! You're absolutely THE BEST out there!! Camera skills and sound....beyond great. Thank you to your dedication to the pageantry arts.
