This is a most amazing band, 2 years in a row they performed in Sydney,Australia at the Royal Easter Show at Moore Park in the 80's or 90's and I then heard and saw them in Honolulu when I was travelling to the USA, absolutely amazing. Bravo Pacific Marine Corps Band.

It is offensive. King Lemuel (Solomon)'s mother Bathsheba told her son not to give his strength to women. Strength in that Proverbs chapter 31 verse means army, defenses, fortifications. There is a place for women in the military in medical, clerical and non combat support technical but it goes way past that and that gets people killed. When Israel's IDF put women into battle in 1948 with men, the lost lives showed Israel that men will jeopardize their missions to protect the women and that causes a lot of male deaths. All female combat air units in Russia worked out well as long as the mechanics and all crew members were female. An all female crew on a two billion dollar Swedish aircraft carrier got the ship sunk in two weeks. There is only one female in Scriptures that is called blessed among women and that is not the mother of Christ who was called blessed among women once. It was Jael who killed an enemy king with a tent peg hammered into his temple (head) when he was sleeping. There is good and bad about women in arms. Better to have mostly or all men but the men in the era we are in don't want to volunteer for the US military. They are mostly sissies and don't want to pay their dues to society and earn their badge as a Man.
Females don't have the bone density of males and so they have a lot of fractured bones and the training had to be modified at the military academies and boot camp for the females.

My brothers were sissies and evaded the draft when young by going to college to the Ph.D. level even though their father was a USMA 1936 graduate and their great uncle was valedictorian at the USMA in 1904. Their great grandfather was a General in the Mississippi Army National Guard. They did not follow through on the traditions of their family back to the American Revolution which was the US Army. I was commissioned into the US Navy and so was my husband in 1975 to make up for the lack of patriotism in my brothers and others.

I was stationed there from December 1960 until November 1963. Breaks my heart when I go back and see what has happened to the Marine Barracks Pearl Harbor area. The last time I was there there was a Navy band in the barracks/rehearsal hall building where the band was housed. Fond memories to be sure.
This is just the greatest my husband was in the Marines and I joined the Navy we were both stationed at San Diego I didn't have the honor of being on the color guard I would love that opportunity is there any chance

That colors sequence has to rank up in the top ten of unacceptable performances. All you had to do was ask since you were unsure of what to do with the colors presentation. You would have been given this: Here is the technique, per the MDW: The color guard team will enter at Port (weapons), both colors on right side with left hand holding the staff just above the belt, right hand in the strong grip position. The flags only dip if necessary to make it through a doorway or entry. They dip and come back to Port in order: US then organizational. When dipped, the US spade must be conspicuously higher. The signal for the playing of the National Anthem is the Color Sgt's command of Present Arms at which point the rifle guards will go to present. The flag bearers remain at Port, the organizational flag does not dip. On the conclusion of the National Anthem the Color Sgt will call Port Arms, rifle guards go to Port and remain there for the march out.
The USMC is the only American military band that rivals the British and Scottish armed forces in pageantry and tradition. If only we had the Great Highland Bagpipes ....

The gunny didn't realize she is not obligated to move her left hand 100% of the time, the pieces started at one tempo and got much slower, even the piccolo solo had a flub... That's just a bit of the things I heard. The drum major was on point.
It's doubtful. USMC musicians, at least in some organizations (the band in DC for certain), are the only Marines that have certain privileges of rank and omission of certain duties, for example, non-traditional training, etc. While I'm no expert, it's possible that the rank, etc. of these Marines is not commensurate with that of a "regular" Marine due to their musical function. Any non-musical USMC personnel are still the same tough Leathernecks we're all familiar with. And that is not to say that these aren't "regular" Marines, but at least *some* musicians in the USMC don't have to meet the same standards as "regular" Marines.
And I'm not trying to lay any shade on USMC musicians. The DC Band/Presidents' Own is one of (if not THE) finest military band(s) on the planet, and I recently heard the USMC Drum & Bugle Corps and they just about "slew" me as effectively as the 1st Division would've on Guadalcanal 77 years ago with their power and accuracy.
@@renaissongsman These folks are regular Marines with the musician MOS. By the time they complete the School of Music, most are Lance Corporals. They advance like all the rest of the Marines. The members of The President's Own US Marine Band, in Washington DC, are professional musicians who enter at the rank of Staff Sergeant. They do not complete recruit training.
I'm not sure what you're seeing. A sergeant with a hash mark and staff sergeants with at least one. I do see a sergeant with no hash mark, but it's not uncommon for a Marine to reach sergeant in their first enlistment. Yes, "The President's Own" are professional musicians who do not go through recruit training (except for those who are accepted from within the Marine Corps already). They start at staff sergeant. "The Commandant's Own" is a non-deployable unit, though individuals have volunteered to be attached to other units to be deployed. Their military mission is defense of Marine Barracks Washington if the battalion deploys. The 10 field bands are fully deployable units. Marines of "The Commandant's Own" and the field bands go through weapons qualification and resident leadership courses like the rest of the Marine Corps.

The Marine Drum and Bugle Corps had women wear the male cover when performing to make everyone uniform. Sometime in the 90's, it was changed so the public didn't think there were no women in the unit. Instead, I got questions like, "Why do women wear different hats?"
Of course they should scare you because they could break your neck or kill you in seconds if you do something you shouldn't , all of our men and women are trained in hand to hand combat in top of being highly skilled marksmen

I was a member of this band from from May 1967 until May 10 1969, at that time it was the Marine Barracks Pearl Harbor Band.

Nelson Cornish -- I was up the hill at camp Smith from Nov 65- Nov 67. With all the ceremonial stuff going on I bet you were up to play for CG FMFPac and CinCPac a few times. Semper Fi and welcome home.
I was stationed there from December 1960 until November 1963. Breaks my heart when I go back and see what has happened to the Marine Barracks Pearl Harbor area. The last time I was there there was a Navy band in the barracks/rehearsal hall building where the band was housed. Fond memories to be sure.
You had a good duty station at Pearl. Been there in May of 78 on the Enterprise as a radioman 3rd class. Do you remember Hotel street by any chance? 😉

I could listen to the Marine Corps Band 24 hours a day 7 days a week, that is just the Marine Corps coming out in me, u just don't spend 8 years in the Corps and not want to be a Marine after u get out

That colors sequence has to rank up in the top ten of unacceptable performances. All you had to do was ask since you were unsure of what to do with the colors presentation. You would have been given this:
Here is the technique, per the MDW: The color guard team will enter at Port (weapons), both colors on right side with left hand holding the staff just above the belt, right hand in the strong grip position. The flags only dip if necessary to make it through a doorway or entry. They dip and come back to Port in order: US then organizational. When dipped, the US spade must be conspicuously higher.
The signal for the playing of the National Anthem is the Color Sgt's command of Present Arms at which point the rifle guards will go to present. The flag bearers remain at Port, the organizational flag does not dip. On the conclusion of the National Anthem the Color Sgt will call Port Arms, rifle guards go to Port and remain there for the march out.

This is just a field band. The President's Own IS better than most/all the British military bands.
@@Its_shiki_time4876 the trumpets missed quite a few notes and their intonation was off during certain phrases. The gunny didn't realize she is not obligated to move her left hand 100% of the time, the pieces started at one tempo and got much slower, even the piccolo solo had a flub... That's just a bit of the things I heard.
The drum major was on point.
I noticed that members of the band were ranked E-5 and above with very little time in the Corps. has that become the norm for the entire Marine Corps!
It's doubtful. USMC musicians, at least in some organizations (the band in DC for certain), are the only Marines that have certain privileges of rank and omission of certain duties, for example, non-traditional training, etc. While I'm no expert, it's possible that the rank, etc. of these Marines is not commensurate with that of a "regular" Marine due to their musical function. Any non-musical USMC personnel are still the same tough Leathernecks we're all familiar with. And that is not to say that these aren't "regular" Marines, but at least *some* musicians in the USMC don't have to meet the same standards as "regular" Marines.
And I'm not trying to lay any shade on USMC musicians. The DC Band/Presidents' Own is one of (if not THE) finest military band(s) on the planet, and I recently heard the USMC Drum & Bugle Corps and they just about "slew" me as effectively as the 1st Division would've on Guadalcanal 77 years ago with their power and accuracy.
@@renaissongsman These folks are regular Marines with the musician MOS. By the time they complete the School of Music, most are Lance Corporals. They advance like all the rest of the Marines. The members of The President's Own US Marine Band, in Washington DC, are professional musicians who enter at the rank of Staff Sergeant. They do not complete recruit training.
I'm not sure what you're seeing. A sergeant with a hash mark and staff sergeants with at least one. I do see a sergeant with no hash mark, but it's not uncommon for a Marine to reach sergeant in their first enlistment.
Yes, "The President's Own" are professional musicians who do not go through recruit training (except for those who are accepted from within the Marine Corps already). They start at staff sergeant.
"The Commandant's Own" is a non-deployable unit, though individuals have volunteered to be attached to other units to be deployed. Their military mission is defense of Marine Barracks Washington if the battalion deploys.
The 10 field bands are fully deployable units. Marines of "The Commandant's Own" and the field bands go through weapons qualification and resident leadership courses like the rest of the Marine Corps.

The Marine Drum and Bugle Corps had women wear the male cover when performing to make everyone uniform. Sometime in the 90's, it was changed so the public didn't think there were no women in the unit. Instead, I got questions like, "Why do women wear different hats?"
