The red dot is fun for competition, etc. But the KISS principle is better for real-life self-defense. In fifty years of carrying and shooting (professionally and as a civilian) I have never had an iron sight failure. BUT...I have seen SO many red-dot failures that there is NO way I'm trusting my life to one. In addition, I've gotta tell you that a good day-glo front sight is just as fast and effective inside of 10 yards (and the VAST majority of civilian self-defense encounters occur inside of half that distance) when you learn to shoot with irons and a target focus.
