I appreciate the rundown; been looking at taking a course with them for some time now. The only feedback I’d give on this video in particular is that the title implied one thing, whereas the content said another. Based on the titles I expected some criticism of the training or of WPS. At the end of the video (and throughout) you seemed favorable to the training and mentioned you were grateful to have taken it. Going forward, I’d encourage considering your titles and making sure they don’t read like clickbait. It’s possible I’m misreading the whole situation, so I’m happy to receive pushback. Thanks!

Two of the most dangerous statements that fall out of students’ mouths are: “I have been shooting all my life.” and “I am a cop.” If I hear that, I can almost guarantee that their gun handling will suck.

Never be embarrassed with your shooting if you are learning something new. Most people learn to shoot a handgun incorrectly for the context of self defense. Almost everyone learns target shooting and attempt to apply that limited skill set to a discipline that demands a much larger skill set. Think about it: if you are spending brain cycles on being embarrassed, it means you are not spending that time to actually learn the skill. The trick is to set aside your ego. Oddly, competition shooting forces you to do exactly that; there is no room for extraneous thoughts that detract from the next shot when the point spread is very narrow. But in a learning environment, you have room to mess up, but I watch many students berate themselves while training and learning such that subsequent shots are affected by the negative emotion. It is a death sprial for performance that ends up training bad habits. One trick that works for me is to tell myself, and the instructor, that for the purposes of this class I know nothing but gun safety. This allows me to absorb the lessons without applying knowledge from other classes that may be differ from what is being taught. Performance is all that matters and holding myself to a high standard IN THE CONTEXT OF THE LESSON BEING TAUGHT facilitates learning and good shooting. One handles pressure by being in the moment. Competition training helps this, as described above. But, if you do not compete, then you need to learn to absolutely focus upon the moment. Your life should narrow down to a series of moments: sweeping the garment, achieving grip, placing support hand on chest, pulling the gun up, turning it to point at the target…putting pressure on the trigger, seeing through the sights and following through on the shot, etc. A playback of the memory should allow you to see each part of that draw to shot. You should know where that shot went based upon feel before verifying visually. This is no different than what the European fencing masters taught to young knights preparing for the battlefields of Europe.

I’ve done a fair amount of training over the last 20 years. There’s a lot of difference between a “Pistol 1” class offered by your local NRA/USCCA certified instructor at a local range, and a “Pistol 1” class offered by a company like Warrior Poet Society. The latter is really for a person that has at least paid for local training, that gives a student a basic understanding of best practices. If a person has been “shooting all of their life,” but the still lean back, teacupping the gun, then a local class that is going to instruct a person on best practices of grip, stance and trigger control is a must. Someone that has done that, and has practiced those basics, are the type of person ideal for a WPS “Pistol 1” class where the basics they’ve learned prior, are further refined. 😎✌️

This might sound nuts but it's true. If you're doing it right you should feel that after. Even Jerry Miculek says that your arms should be sore after range day if you're doing it correctly. The red dot is fun for competition, etc. But the KISS principle is better for real-life self-defense. In fifty years of carrying and shooting (professionally and as a civilian) I have never had an iron sight failure. BUT...I have seen SO many red-dot failures that there is NO way I'm trusting my life to one. In addition, I've gotta tell you that a good day-glo front sight is just as fast and effective inside of 10 yards (and the VAST majority of civilian self-defense encounters occur inside of half that distance) when you learn to shoot with irons and a target focus.

Thinking back to my two days, lunch and end of day were really the only times the pistol was empty on a table. In the morning there’s typically a review before any guns are even out. That’s when they went over the safety rules, range rules/calls, emergency procedures/responsibilities etc. But after that, it’s all range time basically. Instruction happens on the range and “cold” means guns in holsters. If I remember right, Pistol 1 was OWB holster only. Pistol 2 you could draw from concealment. @@provide_protect An anecdotal personal experience here. I started target shooting about a year ago. At the time I was 217 lbs with an SBD total of 1204 lbs which included a 320 bench. On top of that, I had a 205 lb overhead press. Long rifle shooting was amazingly difficult at first. I couldn't get through a whole 30 round mag in a relatively light AR without my delts and arms screaming. The cause? The strength training I did failed to train muscles involved with a long rifle properly, which was missing slow twitch dominant stimulus. After a month of training, including 40 second target hold drills, this problem went away. Those muscles still needed to be trained and the only way they get trained is by training with the rifle.

This will be a little left field, but I like the work of Graham Hancock or Robert Schoch if nothing else then entertainment. I wonder sometimes if the push back they get, all the name calling, is because people in power don't want us to understand that the government in extreme situations can't protect us, can't save us, can't prevent disasters. Once you realize that you start to question why you pay so much in taxes for aid that doesn't show up, or why you would give so much power to government workers who really don't care about you.

I thought climate change was illegal in North Carolina. If you're gonna prepare, better keep it on the down low.

FEMA tells you to prepare. They have a list of items all of us should have in our homes for natural disasters. I’m in GA Helene just missed our area. We did donate a lot of our preps to GA and North Carolina. Some folks did lose everything . We were happy to help without judgement. We were in the path and had Helene not turned slightly we could have potentially lost our preps, home or lives.

Great summary bud! Agree 100% with your takeaway of the two-sided humility and confidence coin. Excited to build on this milestone with better-informed training! ✊🏽

Only a fool expects anything from the government. True preppers don’t tell anyone so nobody should be bothering you about it. Just say it, “I told you so”.
