I’ve had both. I liked the Stihl as it felt like it had a significantly more power but the speed feed on the Echo really trumped it all. I HATE taking apart a bump head to restring. I’ll deal with less power to get the speed feed.

Great side-by-side comparison!! I'm looking at replacing my 10 yr old curved shaft trimmer, it just won't die... was looking Echo 225 & your video seals it for me. Great video as always 👍
I bought the stihl fs-70r and put the echo speed feed head on it. The fs-70r has more power, lighter weight, far better starting process and resetting kill switch. The echo head is the best of the best. The stihl head is brand new in a drawer as a backup.
Hey JB .. would love to see a comparison vid on an Echo vs Stihl backpack blower for the upcoming fall season ! I’m very impressed with my Echo hand held blower but was leaning towards the Stihl backpack as it appears to be the one that all the pros use.
Echo 225 is an excellent for homeowners. It does use more gas than my Stihl 94r, but not as much as the MTD and Husqvarna Lowes line. Bought the PAS 225 new in 2018, excepts attachments, still cranks easy. Has enough power to operate an edger attachment. Its light weight. The trigger effects my forearm after 30 minutes of use. Though I dislike the trigger, it is more secure than the Stihl. The Echo choke is easier to break. Echo heads are easy feed ($30), get in tight spaces, last me about 2 years. I also have an FC 70R, which is the edger. It's been put through rough, commercial use. I was its second owner, and it performed well for me for years...think the ignition coil needs to be replaced. It was also easy to crank. Choke lever is concealed. Stihl makes an easy feed head also ($50)...its a little heavier but works well. Stihl kill switch is faster, but Echo isn't terrible. Stihl gas tank is looks more durable and easier to add fuel. For the money, the Echo. Entry lawn care, the Stihl.
Another very informative video. I personally just bought the SRM 225 and so far it’s been great! Wouldn’t mind a hair bigger engine. Totally agree the speed feed head is a game changer for sure. Thank you for sharing your experience. GO BILLS!!
When I worked in the landscape industry I hated getting stuck with ECHO equipment they were hard to start and broke down more often. It was like do you want the equipment with the Briggs and Stratton or Honda engine. That was 20 years ago so things change. I still have a 30 year old Stihl chain saw made in Germany that runs like new, cut 3 cords of wood a year. I have a 10 year old Stihl string trimmer where I switched to pre mixed fuel no ethanol which made a huge difference. The trimmer starts on one pull and it is like it is on steroids.
I absolutely love my Echo SRM-225. I've had it for several years and that thing will take down tall brush or do delicate edging work around the garden beds. Has tons of power and cranks every time on the 2 full choke pull. All I've ever done to it is use a little Purple Power to degrease it and put in Echo's tune up kit at the start of the season. I had to replace the spark arrestor one time and that cost me a sum total of $1.25 on Amazon for a genuine Echo part. Feed it good gas, either drain it or use Stabil before the storing it for the winter and it'll last longer than you will. I also have the Echo PB-580 backpack blower. Another total beast that makes fall leaf cleanup a snap.

the stihl fs56 isnt a bad machine, but after a couple years, and on hotter days it does tend to flood and have trouble starting. I sometimes make a mess. But I had both brands and I do prefer the Echos! Also, they are easier to pull out string when tapping the head on the ground

I bought a Redmax TRZ230 for $299. It runs ok once it warms up, but man is it cold blooded. I’m mostly finished with my yard by the time it’s really running well and not boggy. I used an Echo SRM 225 the other day at work. Way, way, better. Warms up faster, more power and runs better all around. I wish I had gotten one of those. Next time for sure.
I started doing landscaping for an additional income after I retired. The first string trimmer I purchased was a Husqvarna (don’t remember the model number). It worked well but it only lasted around 6 months. Totally my fault. I didn’t realize I was overheating it. This led me to try different models of different brand until I finally settled on the Echo 225 of which I purchased 2. I use one until the gas tank is almost empty then switch to the other one. This method seems to work well for my needs as I have had them both for over 5 years. Doing some maintenance helps. Changing the spark plugs and air filters on a regular basis I’m sure has added to their longevity. I have used a Stihl trimmer that belonged to a client but I’ll stick with the Echos.
Personally I think the Stihl works better as a handheld sidewalk edger than a string trimmer due to its power and smaller fuel tank limiting its run time. I’ve got an FS 60 edger and its been one of the best units I’ve ever owned.
@@TecumsehRulesbcserk thanks for sharing BCSERK! If they designed this with even just a slightly bigger gas tank that could really help that unit out! 👍 have an awesome weekend my friend
I see it this way: Every brand makes good ones and some bad ones. I like both of them, pretty solid and reliable. The thing behind every machine is a good Support from your dealer and the company itself. So if something goes bad over time you know that you can get the parts quick.
@@GarageGear Thank you. Oh and what I also Think is: choose a machine that is comfortable for you. Try it out and test how it feels and if it fits you and your needs. As example: I run the Husqvarna combi system all day (128LDX, 122LK and 525LK with different attachements) and I love it. Starts right up every single time, feels very smooth to use and is pretty quiet compared to others. Thats why I choose them.

I have a Honda HTTS35. After fighting with a non adjustable carb for a couple years, finally found an adjustable one that fits. It was always amazing until it warmed up. Thanks EPA... Now though it'll run for the hour it takes to trim. It is heavy, but makes up for it being no mixed fuel and stupid powerful.
Im absolutely Echo all the way. I agree with you, they are both awesome trimmers, but in my opinion.. yeah the Echo has smaller engine but out performs the Stihl. Imho i think Stihl is over priced, good equipment but over priced. Id much rather pay less for awesome quality with a fantastic warranty. Great video as always JB.
@@Longtrailside hey long trail not something I dabble in with brush cutting. But I would definitely hit up a dealer and check out ones by Stihl or echo. Can’t go wrong with either
Owned an Echo SRM225 FOR 13YRS. Only problems I've ever had with it is shortly after buying it is needed a new carb while running ethanol free gas. Been running regular 89 octane ever since and no problem. Had to replace the primer bulb a few times and had to replace the fuel lines once. Very happy and knowing the Echo is all commercial grade and Stihl is all homeowner grade. I've removed the shield and I like it better. Never buying a Stihl again
I had an older Stihl trimmer for a few years. I use a harness on mine. In some conditions, the harness would hit the kill button and shut off the Stihl. I bought Echo the next time and I am still using them. Great video!!!! Stihl makes a better harness than Echo. (Not the harness that comes with them.) Is it wrong to use a Stihl harness on the Echo? 😊
I had an echo trimmer years ago. It ran for 10+ years then I switched to ego. I want to go back… I have the regerts. My only complaint is that the echo has this little copper looking “tube” that gets lava hot. And you WILL touch your arm with it 🤣

Thanks for sharing this info mark! 👍

Thanks for sharing AJ
Thanks JB. Any thoughts on the trimmers with Attachment capabilities? Or is it best to just trim?
The echo attachment line has been pretty good. Hear nothing but good things about those
I see it this way: Every brand makes good ones and some bad ones. I like both of them, pretty solid and reliable. The thing behind every machine is a good Support from your dealer and the company itself. So if something goes bad over time you know that you can get the parts quick.
All good points here my friend
@@GarageGear Thank you. Oh and what I also Think is: choose a machine that is comfortable for you. Try it out and test how it feels and if it fits you and your needs. As example: I run the Husqvarna combi system all day (128LDX, 122LK and 525LK with different attachements) and I love it. Starts right up every single time, feels very smooth to use and is pretty quiet compared to others. Thats why I choose them.
@@derrasenmaher9730 you’re right! If you can pick it up in a store or at a dealer and feel it that’s usually going to tell you a lot!

Good info here John! Thanks for sharing my friend
Thanks for sharing tim! Is it wrong to put a echo speed feed 400 head on a Stihl trimmer🤔👍
I had an echo trimmer years ago. It ran for 10+ years then I switched to ego. I want to go back… I have the regerts. My only complaint is that the echo has this little copper looking “tube” that gets lava hot. And you WILL touch your arm with it 🤣
