It's one of my favorite shows all the time. Patricia Routlege was insanely good as Hyacinth... growing up in the southern US, we had several "Hyacinths" in our town. It's so real to me and so funny. Along with Are You Being Served, my two fAve britcoms of all time!

Absolutely fantastic show ,still loved and will go on through all eternity, R.I.P to all the dear cast that have passed...when I get down sometimes I think of Hyacinth and her line ''The trouble with you Violet is you haven't enough Royal Doulton to clean'' when Violet told Hyacinth she was feeling down...That still makes me lol to this day...just one of so many one liners ,everyone in the cast was so great and loveable.

I were lucky enough to meet Patricia Routledge a few years ago, ,a lovely lady, an incredible career..it was such a privilege to work with her, and we even had a piccie together..one of the memorable nights. I can`t believe she is now 90..It seems the role of Rose was a bit unlucky,both actresses dying younger than some of the other cast members...this video is a great record of those characters, and the people who played them..
You were blessed to have met Ms Rutledge. In the movie To Sir With Love starring the late great Sidney Poitier Ms Rutledge had a bit part as one of the faculty members.
My husband is the person who watched this in PBS when I worked midnight shift at the hospital. He said you have to see this show. I laughed & laughed. It got me thru some pretty bad times after work. Bless this cast

I used to watch it with my mum. I was a stressed out 20 something year old, and i just couldn't handle Hyacinth. She was overwhelmingly pretentious and ridiculous. I'd love to watch it now that i am older and more relaxed.

It was never meant to be a reality show though some of today's TV trash was foreshadowed in Keeping Up Appearances. Consequently, kicking the boo-kay has never been so attractive.

I was thinking how awesome it would be to have Hyacinth and Elizabeth as roommates in an assisted living or care home setting and then I saw the viewer's comment that Josephine Tewson-Elizabeth-had sadly passed away. My Mom and I loved this show, it was packed with incredible actors with amazing talents and they could all laugh at themselves, too, as evidenced by their blooper reels. Here's to those people who have the gift of humor and that can make us laugh despite our everyday problems. You are gems!

NOT SO SERIOUSLY ! lol One common mistake: English actor, Mary Miller (deceased 2020) is often mistaken for MARY IRENE MILLAR (nee Wetton) who gave us several "belly laughs " as the beautiful "ROSE" who was constantly searching for that one special fella over and over and over again. Sadly, Mary Millar passed away on the 10th of November , 1998 when she was lost to ovarian cancer a the age of only 62. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

Surprised there was never a sequel featuring Sheridan and Tarquin. "Keeping Up Appearances" continues to be one of the funniest shows we have here in America; we watch it constantly and it never grows old. These wonderful characters (thanks to the marvelous actors) live on forever!
I think the strong point of Sheridan and Tarquin was that they were off stage/off camera characters. it left a lot to the imagination and also that some facts wre obvious to everyone but never mentioned. bringing them to the flesh would likely have been disapointing
@@kamion53 Yes, I agree would have been disappointing in the original series having these two show up, but creating a new show based on these two characters would be quite a different creative challenge. It would have little to do with the original.
i've watched all episodes of this show at least twice in my lifetime and i cannot remember ever hearing the name tarquin, so please tell me who that was supposed to be. i know sheridan was Hyacinths son but can't remember tarquin. thank you.
@@supposedly1-2 Tarquin is the osh boyfriend of Sheridan, it is very clear to everone but Hyacint that the two are lovers, but Hyacint appreached the "friendship" so much because Tarquin is upper class.

I love watching Keeping up Appearances and Are You Being Served? In Texas they were shown on the Public Broadcasting Service PBS. We also call it the Education Channel. Hyacinth with her Royal Doulton China. The funniest part was her hidden family Onslow, Daisy, and Rose. It's sad that many of the actors have passed away.
I would love a one-off series about Hyacinth and her sisters living together after their husbands had passed away with Elizabeth and Emmet still next door.

The character of Rose was my favourite. So funny ! Liked the parts when Hyacinth visited her less well off relatives and the dog in the car.
The reason Shirley Stelfox left the cast was to take care of her husband, a wonderful actor called Don Henderson, who was terminally ill with cancer.

No. Mary Millar (Rose) sadly died in 1998. Elizabeth died 2 weeks ago.

I love watching Keeping up Appearances and Are You Being Served? In Texas they were shown on the Public Broadcasting Service PBS. We also call it the Education Channel. Hyacinth with her Royal Doulton China. The funniest part was her hidden family Onslow, Daisy, and Rose. It's sad that many of the actors have passed away.
