I am really finding this as well. Coming from guitar rig, the DSP plugins are fantastic. I am trialing the Corey Wong version currently and it's very good. It's not nearly as noisy as other ones I have tried and there seems to be less compression. Love it.

100% - 2023 and I just first tried Neural and was blown away. I demoed a few of their packs and Rabea's was a winner by far from the ones I tried. You can tell he put his heart and soul into making it. Yes I was looking for as close to as I could get to a real guitar tone but his plugin is amazing when it comes to sparking creativity with it's synth. Knocked it out of the part for sure

hey Joseph, I am in the same boat as you. I was wondering how he adjusted the settings at around the 5:30 mark. It looks like he has a settings cog icon at the bottom left of his plug in but I am not seeing one on mine. Any way to access the settings some other way? Did I download the wrong version? I am running it in a DAW called Presonus Studio One on a Mac. Any help from you or anyone else in this thread would be great! Thanks!

@@danielpowers4787 He is using a standalone version of the plugin. This means he is not using a DAW to run the plugin. In the standalone version you can change the settings in the plugin. But if you run the plugin through a DAW, the plugin uses the settings of your DAW.

Since getting a good tone ‘and’ vibe is important, I would have addressed the elephant in the room, …latency.
Maybe some tips tricks to not get your vibe squashed by 11 ms of latency which you had it at. I would aim at 2-3 ms if you can do it. Anything more than that, and it kind of grinds my inner id to bits. ; )

Nice, breaking shi* down to molecules, concise. So are neural DSP plugins considered the best out there? is the new quad cortex unit, which Rabea with Andertons demoed recently, just these plug ins in a fancy box with a brilliant UI and those bullet proof foot switches, and the ability to share sounds with mates?

WHat kind of studio monitors are good for playing with this amp sim? Metal and ambient sounds will be played with it. Im poor, so not to expansive :)
And Rabea, I love your music! you are truly amazing!

Hi bud great work, question how do you deal with latency as i have tried and get a second delay using the scarlett solo through my pc? thanks..

  • @theorganicshadow
    @theorganicshadow 3 роки тому

Last time I tried an amp sim (Guitar Rig 6) I could get my guitar to play through the sim, but Ableton was still only recording the raw guitar input. I had them both set up to point to my Scarlett as far as in/out is concerned. Maybe NDSP will be different.

Great video, Bea! Perhaps a quick follow-up video could be your personal thoughts on input gain staging with amp sims?
I've used IR loaders with real tube amps and load boxes for a few years now, but I'm dipping my toes into the world of amp sims now as well. One thing I'm struggling with is proper input gain staging. Rather than just plugging my guitar in to an amp and just messing with the preamp and master volumes, now I need to worry about: #1 the input gain of the interface, #2 the input gain of the amp sim itself, #3 the normal preamp and master volumes on the amp sim and #4 the output gain on the amp sim. Some people have said to stay under a certain input like -12dB, while others have said to crank it and just make sure you're not clipping.

Gain staging is soooo confusing for me... I hope someone take that on a video

General rule of thumb is to turn up the input gain on your interface while playing about as hard as you expect to play (hard palm muting is super effective here) until your interface input clips then back off.
Then in your DAW, just go ahead and play - you shouldn’t be clipping at that point and you should be set :)
Don’t overthink it, as long as you’re not clipping going in or in your DAW you’re set. Plugins like Neural DSP’s have an ‘input gain’ dial. If you wanted to, you could back off or increase the signal going into the plugins (I’ve never bothered BTW and have gotten great results with Neural DSP plugins).
Hope this helps and feel free to post any follow up questions you may have :)

@@scottydogg278 That is helpful, thank you. I'm definitely overthinking the whole thing. It's the input gain dial on the amp sims that is throwing me, as it's another variable I wasn't really expecting. The Mercurial amp sims even take it a step further by suggesting you set the input gain on the amp sim at different settings based on single coils, passive humbuckers, active HBs, etc. I'm used to just plugging different guitars into an amp head and maybe, at most, needing to set the preamp gain or volume differently to match the pickups :)

one thing that I needed to get a better signal and tone going into my interface was a DI. i used an old RED BOX MK III with cab sim and it worked great. Otherwise, the sound was way off and had no sustain or punch.

I really want a way to play and record silently, VSTs are a good idea but I've always had latency issues. Very hard to play when there's a noticeable audio delay :(
