    Great instructions sir! Mors would be proud. For what it's worth I lined the edges of my mylar blanket with duct tape and then placed brass eyelets in the corners and one in the middle of each side. This prevents the mylar from tearing so easy plus it makes for easy securing of the mylar to your frame. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills.

      Thanks for your comments Joe, Great ideas for the mylar blanket. We have used that technique a few times. Take care

    Well presented. Every word counted and was very precise. Skills used were excellently demonstrated- safe knife handling, etc. I have always wondered exactly how the air ventilation works and now I know. Nice tribute to Mors at the end. People will do well to watch this a few times and absorb the teachings. Again, well done. Rory

      About my fifth time watching this series Dale! Can’t say that about any other UA-cam videos. You are a great teacher and generous with sharing your knowledge. Fellow Paddle Canada Instructor Trainer from the other side of the country-Rory

    Well done sir! I have a request, if you have time, I think we could all use a similar type series on the Roycraft Snow Skis and the ways to bind to them. Even if we took the course, a video example is a great aid for remembering. I hope I'm not getting too greedy.

      Thanks for the idea! Maybe next winter at the karamat course. Or perhaps just on my own. Take care Barry. Have fun out there

    Hey man thanks so much for these videos. Looking forward to learning more amd getting out with some like minded folks. Did you go back to chaga island ?

      Hey Man, Thanks for your comments. We haven't been to chaga island since canoe season. The river ice around that area is too sketchy to walk over there and have an adventure. But canoe season is coming soon. Take care

    Joe Robinet did this exact shelter in November of 2019.

    Really enjoyed watching! Solid well built shelter and well explained. What happens in a gale or rain, will I have to protect the fire ? Many thanks and well done!

    • @NatureAliveAdventures
      @NatureAliveAdventures  Рік тому

      Booble Weave -Sorry for the late reply. In rainy weather, a tarp overhead gives you protection and ample workspace. I always try to orient the shelter so that the wind blows along the front of the shelter instead of straight at it. If your shelter is lashed together tightly, you can reposition your shelter when the wind changes. Take care.

    Hello from Sweden. What material was the bedsheet made of? I did not understand this part. Can you buythis on amazon? Thanks for an excellent video. It has helped med so much!

    • @NatureAliveAdventures
      @NatureAliveAdventures  Рік тому +1

      HiTravelcam, thanks for your comments. The bed sheet is simply polyester fabric - or parachute fabric. I have used both with success. Anything that allows air exchange through it and is lightweight will work.

    Hi There . . .Construction Question . . . Why don't you notch your main beams, for greater stability ?

    • @NatureAliveAdventures
      @NatureAliveAdventures  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your comments. I'm guessing you are asking about the bed beams. With paracord and using the Canadian Jam knot there is no need to notch the logs because the knot has so much crushing strength. And when using saplings or withes it is also possible to obtain a very strong lashing with practice. A person could notch the logs but I find it time consuming and unnecessary. Take care

    Plastic? Really?
    You love nature? Really?

    • @NatureAliveAdventures
      @NatureAliveAdventures  2 роки тому +3

      How is plastic in a survival kit any different than a metal knife, plastic compass, ferro rod or other metal fire sparker, a tarp, matches, paracord, or any one of dozens of synthetic survival kit options. How about nylon clothing, cotton clothing, leather boots, rain gear, etc. Where do we we draw the line between primitive bare handed survival using rocks, bark, animal hides, and bones vs modern materials. If you criticize use of plastic, then you must be 100 % primitive in your bushcrafting and never use any modern materials at all.
      The use of the plastic supershelter in modern survival is a viable and impressive skill that ensures that one saves much energy that would otherwise be wasted on gathering massive amounts of firewood in Canadas cold winters

      It hurts i know.
      Because you don't understand!
      Someone may copy you and leave the CHEAP PLASTIC behind in nature.
      You would never leave your knive, compas, tarp etc. behind would you?
      But then again...you don't understand!
