4:16 Serie didn't fight the demon king cause she doesn't like to have an era of peace, not because she couldn't do it

Stark: "I've had two days of freedom from Fern getting on my case about everything. It's scary."
    Random Firebender: "That's rough, buddy".

"it was kind of already implied in the beginning right, with someone that knows all of these spells can't even defeat the Demon King and then someone like Frieren was able to"
The show is making a point, power levels are not relevant to this discussion. More specifically Flamme is saying that Serie cannot beat the Demon King because beating him would usher an era of peace and Serie is a mage who thrives in battle and can't imagine or truly desire peace. It's visualisation again, just like Richter says to Lawine and Frieren talks about when hyping up Kanne in the rain: As a mage you can't make something happen if you can't visualise it, it's not a matter of power.
If they were fighting against literally anyone else, it's very likely that Serie would vastly outperform Frieren (at least that's the implication of Serie already being a goddess-like figure a thousand years ago), but the DK specifically is a problem because Serie would feel conflicted about beating him.

It's also possible that the DK had some magic or trait that enforced this

@@ObiwanNekody That's absolutely possible, the King having a power related to visual imagination would be fitting, so maybe he did!

This show's magic system is beautiful in that relative power levels are not the only deciding factor. Serie is far more powerful and skilled mage than Frieren in every single aspect. Hailing from the bygone Mythical Era when the Goddess still descended and walked the world, she is beyond ancient, probably the oldest character still alive, perhaps even older than the Demon King himself. Her power is likewise unmatched by any living creature presented in the story besides Goddess herself. She's spent those millennia obsessively studying and training magic, making her not only a living grimoire but also the most skilled mage alive. Yet, she is not invulnerable because there is no absolute counter. Serie believes in advancement of magic at nearly any cost and she is convinced (not entirely baselessly) that it is conflict and struggle that helps mages develop. Hence, she perceives a world of peace as the death of magic. She could not imagine it or commit herself to it and hence it is likely her magic, in all its power and skill, would simply fail against the Demon King. This is also why she was shown to be at odds with Frieren. She does not see the ambition in Frieren, the ambition that pushes magic forward.

Serie is stronger, your underestimating her

Being a living grimoire I'm sure 😆 but I have to root for our girl 🔥
