Dude, you made it look easy. I also have been cutting my hair since the pandemic started and my style of choice is the flattop. I don't have the fancier clippers that cut really close to the skin; but, I have a standard Wahl Homepro clipper, a smaller Wahl trimmer (which I was hoping it'd do a closer cut to the skin), and a wide comb to style my cut. What I don't haveis a leveled flatop comb. Like yourself, I've saved myself $20-25 instead of going to the local barber. Ironically, Barber is my last name... so looks like I'm living up to it after all.😁💈
Ha. Thanks! It took years of cutting my hair, mainly as a poor college student, to learn the style. This isn’t a plug, but I use the manscape trimmers to get the close cut. They work really well and for not a lot of money. Great job on the haircut and keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing!

@@TheNonnell for the first time doing this cut, it wasn't really bad. Thanks to your tutorial. Btw, what's the shortest length on top have you done so far?
The shortest length I’ve gone is with a trimmer and I did my whole head. I was going to the desert for some training and didn’t want to deal with hair during that time. It was pretty low. Probably as short as you can get without taking a razor to it.
If you ask for a high n tight in my barbershop u will get a oval circle on the very top of your head with skin on the sides. Otherwise u want a high bald fade.
So you’re saying it’s what you call it? I can see that. I’m Army though so any base I’ve been to a high and tight is a specific cut. Good to know though.
Thanks. I wouldn’t categorize it as a flat top. My definition of a flat top is a flat surface once you’re finished from front to back. Mine is all one short length contoured to my head. Now, the top of my head may be flatter than others 🤷♂️ so maybe it comes across as such, but I would style it differently if I were to do a flat top.
@@TheNonnell It's like a hard mohawk without the back, so you end up with a landing strip on the crown. Apparently, it was a popular style in the U.S army some time ago.
I always had my hair cut high n tight when I was in the navy... But now at 53 I'm losing my hair for various reasons n need to make it appropriate for me. Don't want to pay anyone$12.50 for someone else to do it. Gotta be self reliant on this!
I hear ya. 100%. I care how my hair looks, but there was trial and error over the years. I was comfortable knowing that I may have to shave my head from time to time if I screwed up. In my opinion most of us that keep our hair short regularly won't get too bent out of shape if we have to shave it all while learning a new doo. Worth it in the end. Best of luck!
Thanks! The trimmer I use is actually a "manscape" trimmer so it gets pretty close(if ya know what I mean). Besides a straight razor for the sides, do you have any suggestions for a better/closer trimmer?
I can see how you would think that, but a true flat top is just that, flat on top. There are differences, although slight, but those differences do change the look of the hairstyle.
Don't worry, it took me quite a few attempts before I really mastered it. I've been following this method for more than two decades. It requires dedication and perseverance. The beauty of aiming for this style is that if you make a mistake, you can simply cut it all to the same length and give it another shot in a few weeks.
Just used your tutorial to cut my man’s hair and he is the happiest I’ve ever seen him!! Thank you!!

How did you like the results? The front was harder to do than the back of your head?
@@TheNonnell I think I might consider this for my maintenance haircut thanks. I got a problem with the front because of the weird cowlick I got on it lol
I got ya. Makes sense. I’m sure it still turned out nice.
Thank you for the video
Thank you for staying on me and the push to get it complete. I appreciate that. 👍🏻
I would love to have you do that to me.
Thanks?!
Good looking
Thank you. That’s very kind.
Nice haircut - isn't this a flat top?
@@TheNonnell I get your point - perhaps it’s just the angle.
Have you ever had a recon?
Recon haircut? I haven’t heard of it.
@@TheNonnell It's like a hard mohawk without the back, so you end up with a landing strip on the crown. Apparently, it was a popular style in the U.S army some time ago.
Hmm. I’ll have to check that out….Update: saw the look. I could see that as a Marine look. At least that’s how it comes across to me.
Hi there Nonell, I want you to cut mine the same way.
Ya know. I've tried cutting other peoples hair before and it never turns out exactly how either of us would like.
Clean, and reduces infections... Perfect for these COVID times!
Thanks! How right you are.
@@TheNonnell thanks I will preserver!
Nice. If I hadn't seen this video, I would have thought your haircut was done professionally.
Thanks! I pride myself on getting it as close as possible to what my barber would do.
not bad, not bad at all.... good job!
Thanks!
I really love men with short haircuts.
Ya like what you like. Understood.
@@TheNonnell Thank you for being open-minded, most other people who have read my comments are so judgemental.
@@TheNonnell I sure wish you were like me, I would love to have you as my life partner. I would love you and only you.
You would look good with a flattop.
Ya think so? I dunno. I think I like my hair too short for that.
Or you can go trimmer and Remington rx7 completely bald, takes around 5 minutes.
🤣 100% an option. Been there and done that before too.
You can always give me a buzz cut.
Maybe that would be a good giveaway prize?
You could give that to me anytime.
Perfect. Next shave all over
Thanks! So, trimmer to the skin or shaved with a razor?
What if you experimented with shaving your hair completely on zero or something?
I think you will be beautiful !
Thanks! The trimmer I use is actually a "manscape" trimmer so it gets pretty close(if ya know what I mean). Besides a straight razor for the sides, do you have any suggestions for a better/closer trimmer?
I do a halfway decent job, but still uncordenated.
Practice. It took me a long time to get to where I was happy with the results.
Looks like the flat top
I can see how you would think that, but a true flat top is just that, flat on top. There are differences, although slight, but those differences do change the look of the hairstyle.
I fucked this up royaly, and I don't know how. Some people aren't meant to cut hair.
Don't worry, it took me quite a few attempts before I really mastered it. I've been following this method for more than two decades. It requires dedication and perseverance. The beauty of aiming for this style is that if you make a mistake, you can simply cut it all to the same length and give it another shot in a few weeks.
@TheNonnell That's what I had to do, lol. I look like Mr. Cleans, son now.
Smh
