    My husband is retired Army, always Army. He was wearing h&t before he went active duty and now his civilian barber who just knew what he wanted, has retired. So here we are, going to try this, thanks!

      Ah cool! It took me a few tries when I started cutting my own hair, but now it's easy and about 20-30 minutes. I'm trying to see if my wife will cut it and knock off some of the time. She seems hesitant. :) Thanks for the comment and thanks for his service!

    I like it. Ive seen other old school barbers do this exact same way. They take it all the way up with a slight taper on the curve of the headm, instead of setting guidelines and fading.

    • @TheNonnell
      @TheNonnell  Рік тому +1

      I agree. I'm not a fan of a fade or high fade as some people like to do. I've tried to explain it to a few barbers before, but they continue with a fade and I end up not liking the cut and never go back.

      $35 for a high and tight! Dang. My barber was $16, so $35 seems outrageous. Yeah. Save that money. For 30 minutes or less of your time, I think it’s worth it. Best of luck.

      @@TheNonnell Your thoughts .... because I have a large forehead ( another way for saying generous head ) don't use clippers over comb ... better with straight finger positions ... lk trimming bang area ... recession sides can be tricky... one's always thinner .. right, found also because I've done this so long many is the time trim where needed my sides are always the first to go ... whereas the crown as you know using Clippers in a forward motion, guard of choice reduces amount taken off ....

      Thank you. I tend to think so myself. In fact, I went to an Army base the other week to get a high and tight and they did a horrible job. I had to go behind them and fix it. It used to not be that way but it seems that barbers on bases have gotten worse at this style. As far as civilian barbers, I only know one guy I’d trust to cut my hair.

    Dude, you made it look easy. I also have been cutting my hair since the pandemic started and my style of choice is the flattop. I don't have the fancier clippers that cut really close to the skin; but, I have a standard Wahl Homepro clipper, a smaller Wahl trimmer (which I was hoping it'd do a closer cut to the skin), and a wide comb to style my cut. What I don't haveis a leveled flatop comb. Like yourself, I've saved myself $20-25 instead of going to the local barber. Ironically, Barber is my last name... so looks like I'm living up to it after all.😁💈

    • @TheNonnell

      Ha. Thanks! It took years of cutting my hair, mainly as a poor college student, to learn the style. This isn’t a plug, but I use the manscape trimmers to get the close cut. They work really well and for not a lot of money. Great job on the haircut and keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing!

      Ok, it's done! Took me an hour, but I got thru it and this monstrous cow 🐄 lick on the front and back of my head! Only uses a #2 on the sides, and a 3/4" guard on the top that I cut front to back... At least my wife thinks it's ok and not really wonky! I had an entirely new clippers with the Flippy thing on the side and all the guards from #1 - #8 in there so it wasn't hard to try n pin everything down. Used a #3 to try and blend the top and the sides in too. Some pomade in the morning and I should be good to go. I'll try n tag u on Instagram later or figure out a way on here... But the last time we took him to sports clips he complained about the survice so I decided if I was able to learn this haircut I make my father happy as well as save mom a little money.

    • @TheNonnell
      @TheNonnell  5 місяців тому

      Yeah. I use manscape trimmers. Usually, they’re designed for beards and private areas. Mine came with two guards with two sizes on each guard. That’s all I use now to cut my hair. It’s totally doable. It may take some trial and error if this is your first time doing it but with consistency you’ll perfect the look you want.

      The shortest length I’ve gone is with a trimmer and I did my whole head. I was going to the desert for some training and didn’t want to deal with hair during that time. It was pretty low. Probably as short as you can get without taking a razor to it.

    Nice haircut - isn't this a flat top?

    • @TheNonnell
      @TheNonnell  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks. I wouldn’t categorize it as a flat top. My definition of a flat top is a flat surface once you’re finished from front to back. Mine is all one short length contoured to my head. Now, the top of my head may be flatter than others 🤷‍♂️ so maybe it comes across as such, but I would style it differently if I were to do a flat top.

      I hear ya. 100%. I care how my hair looks, but there was trial and error over the years. I was comfortable knowing that I may have to shave my head from time to time if I screwed up. In my opinion most of us that keep our hair short regularly won't get too bent out of shape if we have to shave it all while learning a new doo. Worth it in the end. Best of luck!

      Don't worry, it took me quite a few attempts before I really mastered it. I've been following this method for more than two decades. It requires dedication and perseverance. The beauty of aiming for this style is that if you make a mistake, you can simply cut it all to the same length and give it another shot in a few weeks.
