i been cutting my own hair for the past 10 years and i allways wanted a military style haircut but i never had the balls to do it...... that's why i'm watching these videos lol
Snap for years my has grown thick and fast. I fancied a military hair cut as being outside a lot the wind would blow my hair around. I mentioned to the barber, he said well if you can grow it keep it, many can't keep it at your age, so put me off. Or just doesn't want to lose a regular customer!
Excellent. The only discrepancy I saw was the sideburns. A military haircut, at least a Marine Corps one, requires that sideburns be above or even with the top of the ear, not the helix (tip of the ear), but where the skin connects at the top (by the crus of helix). I suppose that means pretty much no sideburns. Also, the zero is used much higher up, basically replacing the one with a zero. Slight variations are excepted in the Marines, but only very very slight. You can get a high-and-tight, a high reg, medium reg, or if you're a pog and in a lackadaisical battalion, maybe a low reg.
This seems to be USMC regulation not US ARMY as Army guys have much relaxed haircuts. So basically you are required to have a #0 (no hair) from where the hair starts, the only leeway being how high you go with the #0, low reg being #0 for a very short distance. Truth be told I think USMC regulations are a bit unclear. They should really tell you clearly below which there should be no hair, that's it. Fun fact: In the German Army (before 1945), the rule was that when the field cap was worn, no hair could be seen (the top was anyone's discretion). This is why you see German soldiers with completely shaved sides and often ridiculously long top. As long as everything was proper when the cap was on, it was within regs.
@@Bahamut998 Thanks for the info. That is pretty cool about the Germans. USMC hair regulations fall under MCO 1020.34H (1-11 to 1-12). They were pretty clear when I served (2006-12), more so with word of mouth, but I do think they've relaxed the standards more recently. The infantry was pretty serious with being perfectly squared away 24/7, though.
@@sapientia_et_virtus Thanks. Just read it. "from zero length (skin) at the hairline to at least the top orifice of the ear circling around the back of the head, where it may then extend to the maximum hair length." I guess that's why low reg is technically within the limits. I think the way they phrase it all still technically allows some leeway which is interesting. And the 3 inch maximum length is quite tolerant I'd say. Some people's hair looks like a mess at 3in, depending on texture.
@@Bahamut998 Yeah, a low reg is definitely within regs. I think we all just steered clear because we'd get chewed out by the Staff NCOs. Haha. Some guys did risk it from time to time, but it certainly didn't make their lives easier.
I have to try and give my man his military cut today but he won't let me do the finger thing... it was the only thing I was looking forward to. Showed him the video, so he knows I watched it, he said the difference is, I'd trust that guy. Whatever 🙄
It's such a sleek and manly haircut. Love it.
Very good video. Been doing hair for 40 yrs but this was my first military cut. Many thanks!
This is an exciting military cut which gives the client a rather virile look, with an overall bristling look
