Andrew I discovered you a few days ago, hooked immediately. I am 54, African female, my son is 22. I am learning a lot from you and super inspired. You're so authentic and good. Your confidence in this video is elevated 😉 😊 keep up the good work 👏
I’m a 70 year old ranch broker in Central Oregon. I come from a time where we used 20 or 36 exposure rolls of black and white film. My first aerial video work took place in helicopters with the door removed. I shot weddings and made 16X20 prints with a Nikon D70 - 6MP! I eventually went to Lumix M4/3 cameras for video and kept my Nikon D90 for still photography. I now use a Nikon D850 and. Lumix GH5 & G9II for my video along with a DJI Mavic 2 pro for the aerials. I’m getting ready to retire now and wondered where to go and what to do with my camera and video gear. My first idea is to do a mini-documentary about the people I worked so closely with for years - farmers and ranchers - to show “Where Your Food Comes From”. (Twinkies being but one exception). Your video has truly inspired me, Andrew. And also motivated me to stop planning and get busy with a shot list and start shooting the video, I’ve subscribed and so glad I found your channel. Like having my son explain this stuff. I’m grateful. Sorry to write War and Peace. Jim in Oregon

Here, a part of the 20%. Working on creating content around my album. I released my self produced album TWENTY THREE. 23 songs of multiple genres. My mom was murdered at 23 years old and telling her story was my inspo. It took me years to craft the project and im just not in a space to MOVE ON from it. Being independent means your music is still new to a lot of the world, So I’ve been building production sets and performing acoustic versions of the songs with just my guitar or piano, my version of like a TINY DESK. Recording, editing, coloring, and designing the sets can be tedious, time consuming, and expensive at times. So videos like this are such inspo for me to just keep going focusing on the vision, with patience and persistence. I always feel like HA SOMEONE ELSE UNDERSTANDS ME, when i watch your videos.

Not sure how he did it, but he can be remote controlling the camera through his laptop. Clicks the zone he wants to focus on, it takes time for the computer to transfer the signal to the camera, and for the camera to react and finish the re-focus. So when he takes his hands off the keyboard that’s when he clicked, and just had 2 seconds to grab his head and settle into frustration Not sure how crisp his setup is, but that’s how it would work for my a6500 with a WiFi connection to an external controller like an iPad, iPhone or computer.
Dude!! My mind is blown that the UA-cam algorithm happened to put your video on my recommended feed… Feels like another lifetime being at The Ranch but definitely good memories. Well I’m a part of the 20% for sure and subscribed to your channel too. Keep up the good work! 💪🏽
Okay, So I wasn't going to say anything until I realized you're still doing this in your latest video release. As an audio guy, I work for a radio station, and I'm an audio reporter, one thing you need to do is work on your vox, you voice track. You're obvious really reallly good with the visual aspect, and I know you care about sound design, you just haven't gone to the next step of audio just yet. It's not a criticism per say, as you're already doing ten times better than most people by even being considerate enoug to think of soud design and to use at least a yeti. That being said, I would reccomend two things, first, when you're recording your voiceover remember you have two parts, actualities and vox. The human ear can tell that you're not actually speaking in the clips where you mouth along in time and fill it in with the same vox track you use during shots where it's obvious you're not supposed to be speaking in the shot. The parts where you speak and mouth along are your actualities, the parts where you're not speaking and the voiceover is just that are your Vox portions. Seperate these two, and when you record your actualities do so with a slightly different recording set up. Literally move to a diffrent part of the room, move the mic position, use a diffeent mic, or all of it. That way, the parts where you mouth along will sound different from your Vox and it will really sell that you're not just mouthing it in the video, or at least that the audio track might be real. When it's all the same, there's nothing to sell and the effect doesn't work. Second, upgrade your mic. Blue yeti... I mean, I get it, but a real mic will make a huge difference, as big a jump as the yeti is from the internal mic on most cameras. Anyway, genuienly, not meant to be hating or negatively critiquing, just trying to encourage you to improve your already stellar work.
You know a lot of things about cinematic look and video production in general, but what's even better you are free to share your knowledge with other creators, it's dope man! Thank you for your content and approach to that

I am part of the 20%! Been wanting to do a video as well. I started my photography journey 14 years ago… but video is something that intimidates me because of the gears, lighting and the editing involved. Thanks for the inspiration.
Your lighting and color grading are excellent, can’t believe that’s a preset, but I do. Interesting how the video went from highly cinematic w a voiceover to vlog at the end - was not expecting that but it was really helpful.
Just found your dream chase video, which led me here, while working on a project I'm not passionate about for work. You have given me inspiration where no one else could. Instead of focusing on my work, I have starting thinking I can too do what my dreams tell me to do. Maybe along the way I'll get happier. Either way, watched the video all the way to the end. Thank you for existing.
Hi Andrew! I wanna take some time and just say thank you for inspiring me and helping me through this cinematography journey. I am a 17 year old high school student who is currently brainstorming their first film in hopes of getting accepted to film school! Your work is amazing and your visual storytelling is out of this world. I’m currently struggling in a lot of areas right now, from the way things look to how they feel. I know I’ll get over it, because every time I watch you I feel empowered. Like you said, that small 20% who stays for the end of the video definitely feels like you’re gonna go great places. I find it helps to watch to the end, especially if the person’s work helps me (i mean the fact that I can get his level of assistance for free is inane). Just so you know, your work is simply amazing and inspires me to do better. I hope one day, after I make my film of course, we can get in touch. Thank you again, and I’ll be looking forward to your next video.
After the algorithm threw “I learned the greatest life lesson.” in my face, I was all in; there is something with your style or editing. I can't put my finger on it, and I think that's what I like so much about your videos! 20%
I just started shooting videos, just for myself for now but it is thanks to you. I watched one of your videos and I am obsessed with them because I like colors so much. I am painting my own portraids because I can create new colors by blending some of them. Like I said your videos feels like I saw a beautiful dream and wake up with it's taste. Please keep making new videos, they are so cinematic and satisfying and sincere

Hey thanks so much for reframing "failing" for me. Turns out i fail a lot. And you helped me understand how important that is to the learning and developing process. I'm here for it. Thank you.
20%!!! found this at the right time. just got into cinematography and learning by myself. I admire the style and finally found the sporadic brain hub!!! I love it.
I'm part of your 20% it seems. :P I'm a 38 year old artist with 15 years of 'industry experience' in crafting packaging, graphics, marketing materials, etc. for a variety of companies. I quit nearly 2 years ago because I honestly couldn't take it anymore. I felt like a tool for implementation - not an artist. I barely got to be creative, and that just wasn't what I wanted to put into the world. So I've been re-finding my creativity, unlearning things, learning new things, and figuring out where to go and what to do - this video, and especially your 'start before you know how' have been wonderfully helpful at letting me feel like I'm not alone, that I CAN do this even if I don't know all the steps, and even if I suck at it at first. It's a very solid and helpful reminder that 'failure' is not a noun - as an individual you aren't and can't be a 'failure'. Failure is a transient state towards something better, it can be messy, not great, and that's ok. It's that fear of failure/perfectionism that holds one back from actually getting into the nitty gritty of creating, growing, and learning. So thank you for posting such wonderful and beautiful content. For reminding others that failure is to be expected and absolutely ok, and please do keep creating!

Hi Andrew, really want to thank you for posting these pieces of valuable education about filming. Recently, my interest for film making began to grow and I've been watching these scenes breakdown got to know a lot about color management, editing, importance of sound design and cinematography. Your video kinda gave me a roadmap of how can I start with my film making journey. And thanks for reminding me that it's okay to fail and how important it is to fail to learn. ❣ Love from India

Not sure how he did it, but he can be remote controlling the camera through his laptop. Clicks the zone he wants to focus on, it takes time for the computer to transfer the signal to the camera, and for the camera to react and finish the re-focus. So when he takes his hands off the keyboard that’s when he clicked, and just had 2 seconds to grab his head and settle into frustration
Not sure how crisp his setup is, but that’s how it would work for my a6500 with a WiFi connection to an external controller like an iPad, iPhone or computer.
Good work buddy. loved how clear this message is. thank you
ur videos feel like gawx
These colors look Amazing, Keep up the good work!
oh. I thought it was Gawx for a sec! 😅 Great Video !
I wish!
Dude!! My mind is blown that the UA-cam algorithm happened to put your video on my recommended feed… Feels like another lifetime being at The Ranch but definitely good memories.
Well I’m a part of the 20% for sure and subscribed to your channel too. Keep up the good work! 💪🏽
Insane. Absolutely insane. Love you Stephen.
In a barrel filled with videos about photography and videography, this was really really great. Thank you
im at 4:34 and already learnt so much.🤯
wtf im out at exactly 4:34 and i see this lmao
You know a lot of things about cinematic look and video production in general, but what's even better you are free to share your knowledge with other creators, it's dope man! Thank you for your content and approach to that
why you stall the all video idea and editing from other creator
Read the book how to steal like an artist and you will know what is this guy doing
But that’s stealing….
@@EDDIE5918 nothing under the sun is original, everything you see, you hear, you say or do is stolen from someone you met, someone you liked or something that happened to you. What matters is how you tell the same thing but in your own way be it script, light, story, or just you. There is a very famous saying: everything is already been said, but no one was listening so say it again.
❤
is That Gawx?
Literally watched this video to help prepare for my first video back into filmmaking after burning out 6 months ago. This was so encouraging and just got me fired up and excited to step back into filmmaking. Thanks Andrew. Your and inspiration :)
this is so helpful. Im working on my first short film right now and am struggling a bit. I have so many ideas and visions but struggle executing them on my own. I also overthink the whole process and that sets me back. thank you!
You explain stuff so clear bro keep up the good work
Appreciate it!
One of the best "how to" videos about filmmaking / creating a video, I've seen in my life! Thank you!
I’m part of the 20%. I started watching you when you had 10k subscribers.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge
After the algorithm threw “I learned the greatest life lesson.” in my face, I was all in; there is something with your style or editing. I can't put my finger on it, and I think that's what I like so much about your videos! 20%
Here, I’m apart of the 20%. Your content is so good and I love the way you break down steps.
Part of the 20%. Andrew thank you. Getting started hasn’t been easy. You popped up exactly when I needed you.
Woah! This is exactly what I needed! Thank you for taking the time to not only explain but show us!!
glad to be one of the 20%, great video. Thanks for the inspo
I´m part of that 20% and OMG, I just adore the whole video. Is absolutely art. Thanks for the video and great job!
The perfect remedy for a bad day and the cure for a corporate illness. I've been trying to figure out how to put on paper or digital the things going around in my imagination, I've been really needing this and it just comes in the perfect moment. Thank you, you have this amazing gift to transmit your feelings through every frame and that's rare nowadays ❤
Hey thanks so much for reframing "failing" for me. Turns out i fail a lot. And you helped me understand how important that is to the learning and developing process. I'm here for it. Thank you.
Learned so much from this,,thank you for sharing...
20% GANG!!! I just got my FX30 and i'm so excited to see what i can do with this work horse of a camera. Great content!!
word, 20%. Just put together my first full film and then found you. Now I am more keen to get on a second. Cheers mate
20%!!! found this at the right time. just got into cinematography and learning by myself. I admire the style and finally found the sporadic brain hub!!! I love it.
I'm part of your 20% it seems. :P
I'm a 38 year old artist with 15 years of 'industry experience' in crafting packaging, graphics, marketing materials, etc. for a variety of companies.
One of the best visual details you have! with a reminder, to be aware of the part of the video that gives time for the viewer to think something else. like the part were you explained about Milanote...
Unreal bro. Couldn’t love this more.
I am a musician and music teacher part of your 20%. You really inspired me since the 1st video I watched. Now I got DaVinci Resolve 19, the Osmo Pocket 3, and the freewell All day filters.
I am making a video with memories of my 2020 students' music productions. I am loving it.
I am a part of the 20%, thank you for the guide! I am a photographer and looking to transition into becoming a video editor. Looking forward to more videos!
Fail often. Best advice a UA-camr/film maker has ever given.
A cinematic tutorial on shooting cinematic video - My Man! great level of detail too! Enough info for people to get started with experimentation but not so much you get bogged down in the weeds!
Part of the 20% and with great pleasure.
Andrew thank you so much for your videos
I'm a 62 retired ish GRIP... thing is, I've worked in the television and film industry pretty much my whole life... but never as a "Creator" I guess I just didn't trust or have confidence in my own Creative juices... I'm moving out of those self-limiting feelings and thoughts and more into the light of Creating
The past two weeks I've been binged watching UA-cam contemplating the idea of starting a channel myself, so content such as the one you share is so precious ... keep up the good work and I'll be back to check it out
yo i am the part of the 20%, lots of love to your videos
Part of the 20% bro. Watched till the end. Love the content
20% crew! Love this video so much, this is one of the best BTS/breakdown videos I've ever seen, huge props to the efforts put into making this!
Loved this one man, very insightful. Happy to discover you on here recently. Also part of the 20% club
The angles and cinematography go so hard holy
I am a novice video creator from China. Thank you for sharing. It is really inspiring to me. The creative tools you shared are exactly what I need. Thank you😀
Amazing video Andrew! Keep up, u are great!
Right now I'm a graphic designer and I've done some video editing and shot short insta reels and I think with the knowledge I've got from these videos I would be able to add more depth, character and relatability to our content.
And thanks for reminding me that it's okay to fail and how important it is to fail to learn.
❣ Love from India
Genuinely appreciate you for making this video 🙏🏾
utterly invaluable. good work
I'm in the 20 percent! Love what you do. Discovered you this evening after a long day and I've related heavily with each video. Your unique style, frank openness, gifts and talents have translated clearly to me and I've been inspired to continue engaging in my creative outlets again. Perhaps even reigniting passion. One Love from Jamaica.
Wow made it it to the end! It’s great to see how other aspiring filmmakers do it! I work way more unplanned and spontaneously.
Thanks for making this insightful video!
part of the 20%. thanks for motivating us to make mistakes. sounds counterintuitive but once it clicks, it is the essential advice. I also liked the way you built and paced the video
I’m happy to have run across this film. I’m a filmmaker who struggles with exactly everything you presented. I’ve searched through UA-cam University and haven’t found a person (teacher lol) who can help me learn and this video was a start for me to actually grasp and understand things. Thanks for this video and very helpful.
20% This was beyond amazing! I'm definitely going to try some of these tips out in the future. I just subscribed and can't wait to see more.
Corry for my English, I don't speak it, but I'm trying very hard.
I happened to come across your video, and the way you shoot, frame and voice. It's amazing! You inspire me.
Part of 20%, thanks for sharing your talents! 1:55 - 3:00 was gold for me in terms of shot sequence breakdown/story, will definitely be following for more!
Thank you for making this video and for sharing so many epic details around your process
