    not only the phone, that grading looks fantastic.
    --- for fellow Android users, we can use mcpro24fps to capture log footage, it only supports 10 bit in some devices but it can bump the bitrate much beyond the base camera settings. there is also MotionCam, it can use software to encode 10 bit Prores 422 on any phone if the processor can take and allows to film RAW, but it's quite unreliable, at least on my old and worn out Pixel 4.

    I literally just turned to this set up as I’m starting to shoot more photography content as well.
    I came from the 13 Pro Max and now the 16 Pro.
    Brought it out with me on photowalks and UA-cam video shoots and I was amazed at how seamless this just fits my workflow. I’m able to focus more on my frame rather than worrying if someone will run away with my camera. Haha.

    Literally just came back from Japan yesterday and shot everything on the iPhone 15 Pro. Loved the simplicity of just using what’s in my pocket and not carrying around any extra camera. Phone cameras aren’t perfect by any means but the ease of use and quickness to shoot is unmatched. This vid randomly popped up on my feed and now u have me considering getting some filters to up my game lol.

      Hey there. I'm in the process of buying an iphone 15 pro myself, but on the fence on whether i should get the pro max. I would go with the pro to keep things more compact, but leaning towards the max for battery life. I also don't think I would use the 5x lens for filming, so it's just about the battery really. In your experience was the 15 pro battery a hinderance? How much where you able to shoot with it in a day and still use your phone as you would normally? thank you!
      p.s I will be going to Japan for a month at the end of November!

    • @hotsauce0097
      @hotsauce0097 16 днів тому +1

      @ Yeoo, honestly the 15 pro battery lasted me most of the day but I did have to charge in the evening before the day was done and while we were still out. This is only cuz we were out the whole day and I was constantly using Google maps, searching stuff online, and ofc shooting a lot of vids with the phones camera, all of which eat battery.
      Normally I only charge this phone once a day but while travelling it is bumped to 1.5-2 times a day.
      I’ve always had the regular sized iPhone never the max size mostly because I prefer the “smaller” size and like mentioned in the video, I think the 5x zoom on the max is too much. If you’re used to a bigger phone and want better battery then go for the max. But if u’ve never had a big phone before I’d say go to the store and play around with it a bit before u decide on getting it. The max is a lot bigger and heavier than the regular sized pro. Could be annoying if you’ve never used a phone that big before.
      I hope you enjoy Japan as much as I did. I just got back last week and the weather was starting to get cooler so make sure u pack accordingly. Although I did pack very light, only a few pairs of everything since I knew I’d be buying clothes while I was there. For example Uniqlo is quite cheaper in Japan than it is where I live so I bought a jacket there for like half of what it costs me at home. Just rmr to have ur passport with you and ask for the tax free checkout. You get 10% off the listed price in a lot of stores. If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask.

      @@hotsauce0097 Oh, wow! thank you for your detailed and kind answer and for all the tips!
      Yeah, I'm really excited about the trip. I will also take part in a week collaborative filmmaking event in Tokyo in december and I thought I could shoot my first iphone short.
      I'm actually coming from a big Redmi phone. The pro max would be very slightly wider and a bit heavier, but shorter. My idea was the exact opposite! to go smaller for once since I've always had big phones... Maybe the whole conundrum can be solved by just carrying a powerbank with me. I always take a rucksack and/or a pouch with me anyways.
      Again thank you for the answer and I might actually have some other questions!

    • @hotsauce0097
      @hotsauce0097 16 днів тому +1

      @ no worries! Just to add on, I did carry around a powerbank with me but also a wall plug adapter thing. Japan uses the same outlets as North America and it was easy to charge when we stopped to eat etc. there are also free charging stations in a lot of places.

    I was just influenced to get that case and ND filter for my iPhone! I have a Fujifilm camera but I've noticed that the big lenses make me feel more self conscious when I'm shooting outdoors (or it's simply too heavy) and usually end up filming with my iPhone. So improving my iPhone's setup is something I've been thinking about for a while. Thanks so much for sharing your detailed perspective - and for the beautiful and dreamy shots!

    I really enjoyed your video and the look you have achieved on the phone footage. I use the 48mm (2x) lens quite a bit and it’s my understanding that, while it’s a 2x crop, the sensor is big enough so that the digital zoom does not exceed full quality. So it’s the equivalent of an optical zoom. In real world tests, this holds up for me and I don’t see any quality loss at all, even under scrutiny so I’d say use it freely.

    This footage looks so good, Teo, really nice! Of course the price of the phone seems a bit wild in my book, I normally buy my phones used and hang on to them for many years, so I guess I'll think about this when this feature is a standard on the cheaper iPhones too. For now I do the infuriating thing of carrying two cameras - with heavier film cameras it will be a little GX80 or Olympus E-M10 III and with the light ones I tend to carry my S5 IIx. The way to make it way less annoying is that I shoot film first and then walk back in the opposite direction and retrace my steps for nicer b-roll. This way I don't have to constantly keep switching from photo to video.

    • @teocrawford
      @teocrawford  28 днів тому +3

      @@LillySchwartz I come from a similar place, I get you☺️ I actually bought this one second hand too haha, though the price was still way higher than what I‘m used to paying for a phone. However in this case I viewed it as much more than a phone, it has now become a video camera that is an essential part of my workflow, which justified it for me🙆
      Pheew hang in there! Take care of your neck💪 Technically I’d say that what you’re doing is still the way to get the best results - my method in this video is just a compromise for me to gain convenience🙏✨

    I am using the iPhone 15 Pro max for a while now. It is very convenient to have it as an all-around camera. No need for carrying heavy stuff. I am using the Black Magic Camera app to capture in ProRes. I don't use the native camera for iPhone as we all know, the native camera is a software-driven module. The bokeh, and more are software generated or let say fake, while Black Magic camera app uses whatever iPhone's camera is capable of doing natively. So that is my dilemma, a best quality video isn't captured by iPhone even in ProRes. The iPhone has a very small sensor to begin with. But even so, a nice and neat camera companion to have. Edit: But as they say, the quality of the content is not with the video itself, it's how you tell stories. nice vid overall.

    So curious…. If you had to do again, would you go the iPhone 15 route or get a DJI osmo pocket 3? I’ve got an iPhone 14 Pro and have been using it for a couple POV photography videos via a MagSafe mount (i love this and i can just move it to a tiny tripod), but there’s no log shooting and I’d fear running out of space so quickly. Do you feel the 15 would be better than an osmo for most things?

      The important question is, does your audience practically can tell the differences or at least care about it? If the answer is no, your audience might interested more in your story, hence might be wiser to spend your money into better sound system, filter, or lighting.
      Just be careful if using osmo pocket 3 in the heavy rain though.

      It all comes down to what exactly you're using it for. You seem to be in front of the camera quite a lot, so the Pocket 3 might just be the best option for you.
      The Pocket 3 is better suited for vlogging - either purely talking to the camera while walking around, or in combination with static talking shots, PoV and some B-roll (e.g. James Popsys) - all at a single focal length and can't use a variable ND or stack filters with it.
      A phone is better for filming things around you, especially when you're standing still (like Teo with the iPhone). It gives you the most options in terms of focal length, filters and accessories, but it's not great for PoV, and pretty bad for vlogging.
      Another option would be an action cam - the best for PoV and good enough for vlogging.

      @@Durio_zibethinus I have such a small audience currently, so I have no idea what they would prefer. I think I was more thinking of making the process a little bit easier. I am trying out my GoPro 10 again, it had some warping issues, but I’m going to put that on top of my camera with a cold shoe mount , and then I can get establishing shots and beer role of me shooting with my phone on a mini tripod. I was really worried about the GoPro footage and whether or not it could be more cinematic, but I think I’ve got some ideas on how to make that look better as long as it doesn’t start warping again. Of all the kind of UA-cam videos I’ve ever made, POV photography videos have been my absolute favorite. I hope that I can find success in it like Teo has. He seems like a master in sharing his authentic love for photography and he’s been so consistent at posting. I hope that comes out in my videos someday.

    Teo,
    as a professional and expert in your field, I would like to ask for your advice. It is well-known that the cinematic frame rate is 24 fps, but on the iPhone by default, 24 and 25 fps are practically unusable. It feels like it drops frames, and stabilization doesn’t work. At least, that’s my experience with my iPhone 16 Pro.
    Could you please tell me if I can shoot everything at 60 fps and then export it in a editing program at 24 (or 25) fps? Does the bitrate decrease when you increase the number of frames per second, as is often the case with cameras?
    Please advise me; I have been looking for information for several days and cannot find a specific answer to my question.
