Expat Diaries Episode 4. Two Filipinas and 1.5 Million Pesos later.... it's a cautionary tale for all to take a lesson from. Meet Canadian Michael who lost and left behind over 1.5 million Philippine Pesos in the Philippines to two separate Filipinas.
Now 72, Michael was just 65 when he met his first Filipina online on the online dating application called Filipina Cupid,. It's a long tale of Business bought, jewelry, travel, marriage, sari sari stores. No new homes purchase, not too many international airline flights, but love and romance, and can we say age gap scamming.
Initially a 40 year age gap with a 25 year old Filipina married in a Tribal Wedding. Gifts, businesses, and second degree burns....
It's a cautionary tale from Cebu City, Manila, Thailand, Mindanao, Surigao and to be learned from alll the Dating in Asia countries...

There has been plenty said here in the comments, and I think the only thing left to say is; "Thank you" to the gentleman who was the victim in this story. He was kind enough to allow Rob to share this story to possibly save someone else from being the next victim. This certainly came at his own expense. Some have called him a fool, old fool, and stupid. The Bible says in Proverbs 28:26 "He who trusteth in his own heart is a fool", and life lessons like this are sometimes hard learned. I'm sure this man is the salt of the earth kind of guy, that has spent so much time caring for animals (that aren't deceitful) that he has mistakenly applied that same trust to women. I appreciate his kindness in sharing his story.

I disagree about one thing: Animals are deceitful. It's how many of them eat. For example, camouflage, acting wounded, stealth, and that fish with a wiggling tongue that looks like a tasty worm.
Deceit is how weak animals can overcome those who are stronger.
Let me also say that my wife is 50 and I’m 61. All the cautionary tales are interesting and informative. It is good to proceed with caution. It’s the same even with a local relationship but much more difficult to discern in LDR. You have to go there and repeat visits until you can get her to your country. You must have wise discernment and complete transparency in any relationship.

Actually, Feb 2022 is when people could travel there. Thats the first time I met my wife and was blown away. She told me that when I get there she will “take care of me like an egg”😂

So..as a former idiot that has sent money before, I'll try to explain it. She never asked directly for money. It was always "just letting you know what's going on in my life". That was her explanation to me. If you have a heart, it's easy to feel empathy for those in hardship. I was also fairly naive to how rampant this behavior is there. Even if you take the romantic part out of the equation, seeing another human being struggle, especially if you have an abundance, is difficult for some to do. FAIR WARNING though. The earlier you introduce money into the equation, the more murky the water becomes and you will always question her motivation. Never send what you can't afford to lose and never expect anything back.

When I'm asked for money by a Filipina - I always say yes - and then give them 250 pesos - which is $4.27 today. I never give more than 250 a week to s single person - and never more than 1,000 a month. I always say -it's expensive to live in America - but I'll give you what I can - I hope it helps you. If they stay - they're good people - if the leave - they were after your money.

$4 to $16 a week from 1 foreigner. If she has 10 or more benefactors, she would stay, because she has a good business (or call it racket).
P10k a month in PH without sweat is much better than a P5k a month SSS pension of a retired Fil professional (engineer, nurse, etc.) who sweated for decades .

It opened up in the Philippines on February 10th 2022. I flew in and arrived on February 11th at 445AM and received the 1st tourist visa after the C event.

Really appreciate all of your stories and conversations. To be frank, between the simp guys sending money for no reason, and the online chatting apps and smart phones the women in the Philippines have been ruined compared to just 10 to 15 years ago. It's shocking how fast it has gone downhill there as far as dating and relationships. The scams and grifts have always went on but not to this extreme. Prices have also skyrocketed from naive Foreigners thinking it's so cheap there, and pay any price any Filipino asks.

They aren't shy about soliciting for money. A woman in Manila tried to hit me for $6,000 to open a second restaurant. Blocked her ASAP.

There is a general rule of thumb and typically this is in person not LDR... it takes 2 years to get to know someone (as in the bad side if it is there) and 2 years to get over someone (if you are not the one ending it). Men over 60 should know this shit. Why on earth do these men do this? P.S. Chrissy looks like a nice logical women - and pretty. Always always always put yourself in the drivers seat! First wedding, where is the prenuptial agreement? Do the traditional but also do an online wedding from Canada or the USA then file the wedding immediately at the consulate office for the Philippines. That would have locked her down. Just not smart marrying a woman you don’t know! Takes a year minimum and even then long distance is a gamble say you have spent 8 weeks together over that year? Maybe 6 weeks? It’s a gamble roll the dice and hope for the best…I find him to be too cheap with the allowance. And too stupid with investment money with it just being a gift for the family…If you have money to burn it’s okay…just accept what you are doing is stupid and you will do it anyway…1 million pesos in a business should give you better returns. Good story telling! Crissy is really becoming a great communicator.

I have noticed lately a lot of the popular PH Vloggers are heavily advertising Christian Filipina website which comparing to other PH websites is super expensive and you all know why, they get a kick back. Still with all the money spent the majority of the girls on the dating sites are scammers. Unfortunately there are a lot of guys who are not retired and can't go to PH long term and get trapped on these websites. We know the right answer is boots on the ground but lot of guys can't do that and they have to take a chance and it is very risky to find a good girl who will stay faithful to you while you are not there, no matter how much money you spend, can't buy her love.
The most recommended site will tend to be the one that gives the biggest kickback to the people recommending it. Since it is free for the woman to sign up, there is no way to eliminate scammers. They can just create another account. Easier to use a completely free site like dateinasia and just be careful.
If it seems too good to be true it probably is. Old, but very sound advice.

Unfortunately it does seem many Filipina women are only too happy to take your money and use you as bank of rich Western man.
I don't go on dating sites but just from meeting colleagues who later fall on hard times and then get in touch, I've spent 10s of thousands of dollars trying to help them get work, support their family, etc. I'm still in touch with them but I've stopped sending them money.
The only overseas women I've dated have always wanted to pay their half and never asked for money to help them, their job or their family. Anything else should be a red flag.

I’ve been with my GF for almost 2 years. I’ve been boots on the ground with her for 2 1/2 months. I send money every month but something always comes up. Just get use to it or don’t start it at all. Example: it’s time for school, new uniforms, back packs and school supplies. Dentist, clinic. Etc. Birthday party. The rice cooker died. These are all real examples from the last 6 months. I look at each and I say if we were together I would have paid the money so it’s ok. I do verify all items with receipts. Inspect what you expect.

The child thing seems like a serious problem. A woman with no children is likely to want them in the future, even if she doesn't right now. And she could be really unhappy and unfulfilled in a marriage with no children. But getting involved with a woman who already has a child has risks as well. As a guy who cannot have more children (vasectomy) I am still not sure how to resolve that.

The problem is HIM, He's70+ and still taking care of animals. To find a Filipina , he needs to retire and move to the PH instead of using the dating site and LDR. With his age if he is not living with the girl and stays in Canada to take care of his animals then he is just an ATM.
