You can set the temperature and all your other settings, like units with to a key. For example, his and hers if you have 2 keys. Any time you make a change you want to keep and code it to that specific key you have to press the set button on the door and then the key icon. It will save everything you change from menu settings to climate control temps etc etc units etc etc.
@@9and3 ohh interesting, yeah it should save everything from seat, to clock to units to air con settings. Deffinetly something to get checked out. Is your key battery low maybe, just throwing ideas out.
Great video - thanks - really love the presentation - and the car looks amazing. I have been considering a 997, partly because its slightly more classic in feel, I believe its a little narrower, and I think still a bit cheaper - however that turbo is tempting too!! Good luck with all the treatment.
Great video. I was looking at ordering a new one but you have to have bought 10 Taycans in order to get the privilege of handing them $300,000 to purchase one. The alternative is to buy a recent year model that was bought buy a speculator that abused it for 6 to 12 months and then flipped it back to the dealer that sells the used car with several hundred miles on it for $30-50k over msrp. So, maybe you have the right approach- go find a well treated, 1 owner, low mile specimen that’s a few years old. Good luck with your health and best wishes for a complete and speedy recovery!
Crazy which country are you in? We dont have quite those kind of crazy rules in NZ! Sure some of the RS porsche cars are limited in numbers and so get offered to the bigger spending customers. Nobody needs that many Taycans, the depreciation on them is INSANE... Yeah find a low milage 991.2 :)
Great video. Regarding multimedia fwd and back, you can half solve that problem. The little diamond button on your steering wheel can be programmed to skip fwd or back, through your settings via that screen dial on your dashboard. I've got mine set to fwd skip.
It’s a bit annoying that the driver needs to actively press two buttons every time they want to save one of the many car settings to the key. When I got mine I couldn’t work out why so many things reset every time I got back into the car. Other cars have auto saved whenever a setting was changed. Porsche obviously decided it should be physical action. It’s the same on other Porsche models like my previous 997. Drove me mad until I realised! Now I’m used to it, so it’s fine. But I still forget sometimes.
Regarding the suspension, the active “brains” can be upgraded easily via DSC controller that plugs straight it. Makes big difference to compliance, especially with good geo. Will be noticeable on less than perfect road surfaces, especially when using sport settings which opens up a different aspect of the car.
For some reason my previous reply didn’t save. Maybe because I added link. Company is called DSC Sport. They make plug-and-play devices for many Porsche models and other makes. Very popular. I’ve put these in multiple of my cars same time as having geo done properly by someone that knows what they are doing, to make sure everything is pointing in right direction for your driving style, now with better compliance too. This will give optimum suspension for this very powerful car. Match this with good tyres for your needs (eg Michelin vs Pirelli). Surprising how many people drive with old or mismatched tyres (also looking at date stamps).
On my car you can set it to remember the interior temperature by setting it and then saving the setting to your key by using the memory function on your door. This will remember the set PCM screen on dash, seat position, and temperature. The car can auto lock on startup or drive away by changing settings in the PCM. The Bose sound system can be improved by adjusting the sound settings, just make sure you are feeding it good quality source material and not a low quality streaming bitrate. I’ve tried the Burmester sound system and when you are driving, the tyre noise makes it not worth it.
@@9and3 if it's not saving, it's because of 'auto memory' being selected in the 'vehicle > settings > locking' screen. This needs to be UN-checked or it will continuously overwrite the key settings and not let you save it how you want.
I have owned a 2014 991.1 Turbo S since new and also see the 991 as the peak 911 generation. Essentially, the best combination of performance and tactile-ness / analog driver’s instrumentation and controls. I did switch out the multi-function steering wheel for an alcantara sport wheel + steering column stalk to simplify it all further. Agree with you 100% on the overall assessment of the car and the 991 generation. I own a few other 911 models of the 991 gen and love each one. Specifically regarding the Turbo S, I, like you, have very few minor complaints, and the car has proven bulletproof over 55,000 miles driven. I am not a fan of the direction Porsche is taking with the 992’s - menu driven touch screens, elimination of analog instruments, cheaper feeling compromised interiors, etc. Not a favorable trade-off for a bit more power. The 991 gen Turbo S already drives like the wind, and I would never consider trading it.
Good points, keep your 991 cars I think they will be much sought after in the future for the reasons you state. I've started looking at same gen GT4 RS cars now, I've gone down a rabbit hole LOL
Good review....i agree about annoying forward and back buttons on wheel and the annoying bluetooth staying on...i thought it was just mine. Odd I think headlights are stunning on my 991.2 turbo s. Much brighter on the road than the lazer matrix lights on my previous Audi rs7 c8. When I’m out in mine which I’ve only had 3 weeks I get people pulling up alongside filming or thumbs up. Maybe in Uk people more into 911s
We have a lot of 911's in NZ to be fair, they are pretty common, and I guess liked - you just dont attract anywhere near the attention you do in say an R8 or a Ferrari. The matrix lights in the e-tron GT were pretty spectacular, today driving into my garage in the dark the 911 actually failed to dip at oncoming cars several times which I never found in the Audi. Its still pretty dam good, I'm nit picking on small details here!
@@9and3 I bought my car with very low options for the reason that I want the car to fly even a little bit lower under the radar. I actually like to drive.
Want the same with this color! Porsche a very good value and invest for the midle term. L’EV like S Plaid so good but no sound with no Heart emotion as the passionate driver needed❤😊
Regarding the sound system: first, with a car that has such a compact interior, you will never achieve great sound. It's pointless to try. But that being said, I have the Burmeister system in mine and the real issue is VW - they deliberately keep noise and power levels to a degree that will not degrade your hearing. This is true across their lineup from Audi to Lamborghini, as far as I can tell. It's annoying that my 8000 pound diesel truck can punch out more volume than my expensive GT car.

Cupholder, just get a small 12inch square towel and drape it over the swing arm that will also prevent condensation and spills from landing on you auto button on the climate control i just a microfiber one to look ok lol also be super careful with the passenger one its easy to clip with your knee getting in the car so always retract it when a passenger was using it and tell them to be careful with it. Auto door lock is a setting just read the manual. Sport suspension is super harsh in all porsches I never use mine either likely not even on track although haven't been on track with either cars. Climate control should follow the key fob again read the manual but it may be hit the key button on the door to learn your key but yea read the manual, I've never had this problem except in a Macan loaner that did some weird stuff but I didn't care enough to mess with it much and I didn't read the manual, lol
Does anyone use the porsche precision track app with the 991.2 turbo S? If so how did you get it to work as the PCM model does not have wifi connectivity
Your right this is peak Porsche, I had the 991.2 Turbo S, GT silver, traded in for 992 turbo s without test driving because I assumed latest is greatest, and I can tell you 991.2 is peak. 992 is larger in a horrible way, you lose confidence compared to 991.2 in placing the car. The digital dash feels soo unnecessary and completely loses the tactility and quality of prior generations, way more plastics and completely unnecessary gadgets to compensate, like retractable door handles 😂 are you kidding me, the most unnecessary additions of weight and complexity
Great to have this confirmed - I’ve only driven a 992 C4S and a GT3 Touring but when I get back into my 991.2 I just love the feel of everything in the cabin, takes me back to classic porsche just enough to remind me of the heritage and history with the simple tried and tested layout. Oh and I got to the bottom of the creaking noise - was the back seats rubbing and not correctly adjusted - nothing major so I’m happy again :) This car always puts a smile on my face when I get inside , I find myself just sitting in it in the garage sometimes for no reason at all!
@@9and3 I think this 991.2, particularly Touring and Turbo S will become really collectable in the future as the last great porsches, we're also seeing now carmakers not focusing on speed but leaning towards user experience as an average EV can now blow the doors of top sportscars, and exotic cars will go back to tactility (see the new Bugatti) but it will be hard with current regs

Good call - I have Michelin Pilot sports on all my other cars and love them. Porsche put 4 new factory approved tires on when I got the car not because the old ones were worn (they had only done 8000km) but because they were 4 y old and to give a factory warranty the tyres need to be less than 4y old. I won’t take long to wear them down tho :) I’m wanting to put some miles on this car and enjoy it !
Himm I wonder why they changed it. There must be a totally different system - or mine needs a software update . I’ll ask porsche tomorrow when I take it in for the creaking
My 2018 991.2 remembers the temp. It's done that since I bought it new. I have gone through two sets of pilot sport 4s and I think the road noise is fine for such a wide tire. Mine also does the ert ert noise when it adjusts the suspension. The dealer called that normal. Interestingly, I only notice it when it's stationary and I'm getting in or out, not when I'm driving. I agree on the brakes, they are fantastic. It has more understeer than I would like, but the stability control does a really good job when you need it. The four-wheel steering is great for low speed turning radius, but it can be frustrating trying to back it up and it is steering the rear wheels. Don't completely fill the windshield washer reservoir. It will puke on the lower front fender and door with spirited driving if you do. I have asked the dealership if there's any updates on the firmware for the Porsche and they claim there's been none.
A great car but not a good daily driver, you need 2 cars as I’m getting frustrated by only owning 911 at the moment so looking to buy another car as a daily .
What’s frustrating you about it being a daily ? For me it’s probably just the huge fuel consumption 😂 I do have an electric mini I sometimes use for fun (although my daughter usually uses it). This was one thing I did like about the Audi Etron GT - free energy (power is free at night on my plan so it cost nothing to run).
P Zeros are TRASH, TRASH (recycle) them and put on PS4S and you will have much quieter and confident car. Also, DSC controller is fantastic for suspension improvement. 991.2 is really peak Porsche.
@@9and3 Make absolutely sure it's the Rev2. They kind of screwed us Rev1 owners as they have not updated any maps and the best ones are available only to Rev2 owners. Frustrating as of course I have a Rev1. I know they're not that expensive but dammit... also OP is wrong, the PS4S are very little if any quieter once they wear in, perhaps on a meter they would be but not to the ear... but they do grip similarly and more importantly they work much better in cold and rainy conditions than the P-Zeros, which will degrade markedly in those conditions. If you are in an area that is not generally warm, the P-Zero is a poorer choice although ultimately the P-Zero N1 I had for the track did have slightly more grip than the PS4S (no trophies for track days, so who cares really).

Still have the turbo S though.. its going nowhere..
@9and3 You mean it was awesome except it wasn't!? 😁 I don't doubt that it is fun to drive but there are too many problems: The depreciation (which is mindboggling), the charging time, the repair costs, the costs for the battery that certainly has to be replaced in the future, the low but existing risc of a spontaneous fire (one ev, and i am not making this up, even exploded(!) here in the area after(!) it has been driven back from the charging point (at least no one was harmed)), and the cost for the charging point (display) subscription, which won't be free after the first 3 years and what costs about 300(?) each year.
@@skynetsworld You're clearly an ev hater but I like all cars on their own merit not power train. All cars catch fire from time to time, hybrids the most, then petrol cars then occasionally EVs. Yes depreciation is horrific, mind you this turbo S has halved in price after doing only 8,000km from new which is why it was such a good buy. Just as right now a second hand e-tron GT or Taycan is also a very good buy for what it is. (you can buy a second hand Etron GT RS in NZ for about $110k ($280k new) the second hand Turbo S of mine was $230k (500k new)..
@9and3 I'm not an ev hater. I'm a disadvantages hater. 😁 In 10 years the etron's value will have dropped to what the wheels can be resold for, while your 911 turbo will still be worth a considerable amount of money if not more than today.
@@skynetsworld for me because I have free electricity. If you cant find it just respond and I'll go look at mine and figure out how I did it. same with setting the temperature when you start it.. you have to save it to your key profile (again on the .1 it's on the drivers door panel and the button has a 'key' icon on it). When you save it, it will store your seat position, mirrors, dash display setting and temperature settings. You can also have it auto-save however you left everything each time you turn the car off, that's another related setting in the dash circular display.

Any time you make a change you want to keep and code it to that specific key you have to press the set button on the door and then the key icon. It will save everything you change from menu settings to climate control temps etc etc units etc etc.
Yeah it's not saving on mine which is very odd. I'll need to check with the dealer I think.
@@9and3 ohh interesting, yeah it should save everything from seat, to clock to units to air con settings. Deffinetly something to get checked out. Is your key battery low maybe, just throwing ideas out.
The only points i wouldn't like are the center lock system and the missing key startup procedure.
Great video - thanks - really love the presentation - and the car looks amazing. I have been considering a 997, partly because its slightly more classic in feel, I believe its a little narrower, and I think still a bit cheaper - however that turbo is tempting too!! Good luck with all the treatment.
Thanks ! I dont think you can go too wrong with the 997 although I've not driven one yet
I bought mine as a first-time Porsche owner in 2017. No questions asked, In Canada.
Great video. Regarding multimedia fwd and back, you can half solve that problem. The little diamond button on your steering wheel can be programmed to skip fwd or back, through your settings via that screen dial on your dashboard. I've got mine set to fwd skip.
Yeah good tip I just set mine to do that 👍🏼
Nice video. On my almost exact car I press memory -> key on door to save all settings to my key including AC temp. Good luck with your recovery.
Thanks and I’ll try that!
@@TobyD Can't get it to save on mine but I'll chat with Porsche today..
Re cup holder, close the center part of the cup holder door. This minimizes the cup swinging.
Thanks that helps for sure but the service tech said it is broken and will fix it . Spring had gone
Regarding the suspension, the active “brains” can be upgraded easily via DSC controller that plugs straight it. Makes big difference to compliance, especially with good geo. Will be noticeable on less than perfect road surfaces, especially when using sport settings which opens up a different aspect of the car.
wow thats really good to know. Is this an aftermarket software / hardware solution? where do you get it from?
Nice, I'll try again I think.. not sure whats going wrong with my car saving this setting..
When is the garage update coming? 🙏🏻
Want the same with this color!
Porsche a very good value and invest for the midle term.
L’EV like S Plaid so good but no sound with no
Heart emotion as the passionate driver needed❤😊
Regarding the sound system: first, with a car that has such a compact interior, you will never achieve great sound. It's pointless to try. But that being said, I have the Burmeister system in mine and the real issue is VW - they deliberately keep noise and power levels to a degree that will not degrade your hearing. This is true across their lineup from Audi to Lamborghini, as far as I can tell. It's annoying that my 8000 pound diesel truck can punch out more volume than my expensive GT car.
Could you do a feature on the rear end squeak?
Turned out it was as simple as the rear seats leather rubbing on the plastic sides.. they needed adjusting - now its done all sorted!
@@9and3 Not as exciting of a root cause as I imagined. Nonetheless, glad it was sorted.
@@Slowcarfastbeans yeah same! it was very deceiving as to its location but once I got a Porsche tech in the back seat and took them for a drive he found it!
I had 991.1 now 992, disagree on interior, I find 992 way superior, clean timeless design. Infotainment 100% improved on 991.
Agree its peak Porsche
I’m a lot older than you but regular health checks do save lives. Us Kiwi blokes are not good at interacting in a preventative way with health professionals. It’s a major fault in my humble opinion. Enjoy driving your car collection. Last year in Florida I was able to drive a Tesla Model S Plaid and a Lucid Air. Boy what a blast! Cheers from AKL.
Yes the Plaid is pretty nuts, heck my model 3 performance is nuts at around 3s to 100kph (feels faster than that in reality). Electric cars a like driving a rollercoaster on the road!
Auto lock can be activated in my 2018 718 cayman GTS via the steering wheel toggle on the right.
I found the setting! deep in the menu as you mention.. Not sure how I missed it TBH but its working great now.
make more vids about this specific car in your collection!!!!
Ok!
It was stressful watching how close the back of your chair was getting to the paint work.
Has a 991.1 S Manual, now 2023 gt4 Manual.
This was a great review!!!!
Thanks 🙏🏼
Great vid
Thanks ! Like and subscribe ;)
Beware dealer prices if rear suspension bushes are the issue...there is an alternative...
Still under a Porsche warranty which is why I'm trying to get it resolved.
@9and3 lower control arm bushes are known to deteriorate regardless of mileage....fwiw I feel your pain re Police incident mine was 137 and he was grumpy to boot..Great video btw
@@stevejames9507 Thanks and good to know about the arm. I played the cancer card and got it reduced to 120kph but yeah the radar didn't go off till he was passing me and fully mufti with no big areal on the back of the car.. Wide open road, perfect conditions... Its all too easy to gather speed in this car without realising it..
Put Michelin tires on it when you need new ones.
@@9and3 I got mine with P Zeros, switched to PS4S, difference in grip is massive especially in the wet.
I have a 991.1 Turbo S and it remembers my last AC temperature.
Himm I wonder why they changed it. There must be a totally different system - or mine needs a software update . I’ll ask porsche tomorrow when I take it in for the creaking
@@9and3 No it does remember your AC settings. You need to enable the option through the instrument cluster computer, its not on the PCM unit.
@@fullwerkes ahh good to know, I'll keep looking for it! so far havent managed to save it yet.
@@wardkarns Good comments, and great tip on the washer reservoir! Thanks.
It’s a cup holder, not a bottle holder.
True!! Valid point .
Your cup holder should not be swinging, I would say it is broken.
Good to know - still under warranty so I’ll get that fixed
I think if you close the long horizontal trim piece (that opens to reveal the cup holder), it should stop it from swinging. Give it a try.
He csnt possible not have figured that out lol? That's what makes the cupholder so nice! @@eric.frasch
@@theosiegstolz3991 if you watch the video, at 14:16 the shot shows it open, so I don’t think he knows.
Yeah I agree, I wonder why porsche spec them. Keen to try the DSG controller

@@9and3 2018/2019 is Rev1, I'm fairly sure. You could confirm with DSCSport. I'm using the GT3 Touring file, I find it better than the standard 991 file. Unfortunately the Rev2 is definitely better and yes I feel let down that they offered no upgrade path.
Not VW cutting corners at Porsche dope. Porsche went independent when they were spun off in 2022 and have to earn their way now and can’t sponge off of VW group. Porsche is cutting corners. They are heading back to the 1970s.
"Audi etron"
🤮
But at least you can't say they hid the fact.
You are free to look up what etron means in French. 😂
Ha, the e-tron GT I had was actually awesome as a daily driver but it was just unreliable and kept braking down so I got it refunded. I do miss it though as a GT car, it's a totally different car to the 911 of course. I'm now driving a 928 daily and loving that, more of a GT cruiser than this turbo s..
There are far more advantages to have that electric car than the 911 however you’re absolutely right about EV values versus Porsche values in general which is exactly why I switched to a 911. I had the ET Tron for two years did 20,000 km in it and it cost me zero dollars in total. The car was fully refunded.
regarding auto locking - at least on the .1 there is a setting in the circular dash screen for various auto-lock settings. I have mine set to lock when I start the car so you may want to poke around in there.
Thanks! I'll look at that soon and report back.
Just looked and I only have the unlock drivers door / unlock drivers and passenger with key options, nothing about drive away and auto lock.
@@9and3 Hmmmm..so on mine in the circular dash display I go to Settings>Locking>door lock>[options: off/after ign on/after drive off].
That said I do have the 'entry & drive' package but I thought that was just about the key fob rfid and not needing to insert it into the switch, seems odd that it would affect locking behaviour.
In the same screen menu (Locking) the options are: Door Unlock, Door lock, Mirror retract, Comfort entry, Auto memory.
I think I pushed the selector when I was on display showing the bar gages (boost, temp, pressure, etc.)
@@9and3 for the lock, in the vehicle menu, select : settings/locking/ door lock and you can select one off the 3 options
