So sorry you had to go through that. I cannot imagine. My condolences to you & yes it’s unimaginable to be that young finding a parent murdered in such a violent manner.

Allen Blackthorne died in prison in 2014. He had to be moved from Texas to Alabama shortly after he was imprisoned because another inmate stabbed him multiple times with a screwdriver. He lived on after that, and I like to think that it made him forever keep looking over his shoulder and sleep with one eye open. I like to think that Sheila would have been happy about that.
Sheila had seemingly moved on, meaning her only concern with Blackthorne was presumably not having him around. Anyone who can walk away without obsessing is in a much better place.

Hearing that 911 call just breaks my heart. Someone knew it would be one of her daughters that found her. They didn’t care. For a few thousand dollars-look at the damage they did. So tragic
The sad & ironic thing is, Ann Rule's Life ended very, VERY sadly. Two of her children had embezzled HUGE amounts of money from her. She was in a wheelchair, unable to walk again, after what the Police said was "an extremely suspicious fall". She refused to say how she fell down a flight of stairs. Of her four children, ONLY one was mentioned in her Will.
Kids referring to a parent by their full name tells you everything about that parent. Even calling them a sperm- or egg- donor implies a closer connection than the name any stranger would use.
Nobody ever hits a woman in the face and say it was the one and only time they ever abused that woman. It never starts like that. That was her breaking point.

Just read that the ex-husband died in prison in 2014. Guess his life was cut short too. What a senseless crime! The 21-year old young man had his entire life ahead of him, unfortunately that will be in prison.
The daughter is such a mature lovely young lady. To have to go through that due to her dad and to know it might be him. Its a lot to handle and to be so strong. Bless her and the other children. I hope they are doing well.
I pray for that young girl. The horror of what she witnessed will stay with her forever. The babies will supress what they saw until they are triggered by images still residing deep within their psyche. ❤

In an interview, he stated that as he hid and waited to ambush her, she never hurt those children. The ex husband was a horrible person. In order to extradite the actual shooter from where he fled to Mexico, Florida had to agree to take the death penalty off the table. The others did plea agreements to testify about what they knew to avoid it.
The reporter, peter, is wrong abt danny being THE reason Sheila is dead. If Danny had told blackthorn no, blackthorn would have found someone else to do the killing….
Doubt whether this was about money... Rather about revenge, after losing custody. Who knows what could happen, after the narcissistic injury of a violent controller?
@maricamaas2326 true, I was speaking from the angle of the actual killers perspective which only brutally killed this woman for the agreement of a few thousand bucks- and the guy that played golf with the narcissistic ex psycho that set this whole thing in motion, for money, through an investment...if those 2 weren't motivated by worthless money this mom may be with her children, we will never know.
Around 30:16 he asks Blackthorn if he had anything to do with this Blackthorn replays " I had absolutely nothing to do with this period" while his head shakes yes. Ppl that study body behaviors especially when ppl r lying is amazing to me cause it's so telling the body is doing it without being aware of it.
That stuff is a bunch of nonsense. Certainly without a baseline of his body language it is meaningless. Blackthorne was evil, and now he's dead, and nodding has nothing to do with it.
He did the same thing when talking about the assault at @14:57. He nodded when he admits to hit her and and then shakes his head when telling its the only time he ever hit her. I can imagine there is more.
"There is no evidence that I have any involvement in this whatsoever" he says... (translation: he planned it very carefully and thought he had gotten away with it.) What an evil man or should I say monster.
No evidence? The sheer arrogance in thinking just because you set up an alibi and are playing golf 1000 miles away means you ignore Rocha being the critical link between the actual killer! Hubris.

He died in prison aged 59. He gambled on not getting caught and lost. Those poor 6 children, particularly the older half siblings who were old enough to take it all in and to know their own father did it. In the UK you cannot take children too far away from the other parent on a divorce without consent of the court and good reason. That girlw ho was only 13 years old at the time is one of the true heroines of this story as is the brave bereaved husband and that poor elderly mother.
Makes good sense to not be fighting over custody of children; such a battle is bound to bring out the worst in one another. Most of these tragedies could have been prevented had there not been attachments formed with third parties. Remaining single is by far the better option; when compared to one's children having to cope with one parent dead, and another jailed for life.
I don't think Alen cared about his kids at all he just cared about controlling Sheila. The report even said he never once called and checked on his two children after their mother was murdered to make sure they were okay. If he couldn't control her he wanted her dead.
Even the way Alan mows the lawn is psychotic. The interview with him is chilling, he’s a very dangerous, evil man. My thoughts and prayers are with Sheila’s family. I hope they all found peace and some sort of closure xx
It's funny that you mention the golf swing because I thought that too and I'm not even a golfer but I can spot aesthetics. He wobbled after the shot. The swing itself didn't look so bad though. At 41:22 he got his period comment come to haunt him.

All the men, not just the mastermind, were sick individuals. This is what happens when narcissism and greed get into a partnership.
Lol guess nobody ever told this guy that staring unblinking while making the entire false statement is like surrounding himself with neon guilty signs 😑
How in the world did he go that long without blinking?😂

This series continued into the new century and beyond because stories like yours were so compelling Sheila and told so well by presenters like Peter.
Hearing that 911 call just breaks my heart. Someone knew it would be one of her daughters that found her. They didn’t care. For a few thousand dollars-look at the damage they did. So tragic
Ann Rule wrote a really compelling book about Sheila’s story. This man Blackthorn was totally a cold and evil person.
He was a monster
And such a blatant liar.... 😮
You can listen to him speak for a few minutes and now he’s a sociopath. 😮. Sickening.
Yes! Heard about this story from Ann Rule first! One of her best books.
Kids referring to a parent by their full name tells you everything about that parent. Even calling them a sperm- or egg- donor implies a closer connection than the name any stranger would use.
Keep the episodes coming!
Nobody ever hits a woman in the face and say it was the one and only time they ever abused that woman. It never starts like that. That was her breaking point.
Well said

You can tell he rehearsed his response to the journalist at the beginning. No blinking, leaning forward. His eyes are unsettling AF. The not blinking is a sign he rehearsed it and thought I better keep complete eye contact so they believe my lies! So unsettling

I watch these episodes almost daily.. this one was particularly hard to listen to and actually brought me to tears. That poor woman and those poor children. 😭💔
Indeed. Another sad thing is there is a lot of victim blaming on this thread...a few people back up the violent killer and blame the mother trying to protect her children! There are a lot of sick people out there...
A 48hrs classic episode. This story was very high profile at the time. Still very haunting, the brutality of the crime
Absolutely.
Just read that the ex-husband died in prison in 2014. Guess his life was cut short too. What a senseless crime! The 21-year old young man had his entire life ahead of him, unfortunately that will be in prison.
Not that unfortunate
Poor Stievie, she needs a lot of therapy for finding her mother like that 😢
She's 39 years old now. I imagine that happened long ago.
She looks like she suffers badly of PTSD. she’s emotionally shut down.
Born and raised in San Antonio. I’d heard of the Quads over the years but now I understand why my parents never told me what happened to Sheila. RIP.
❤
I remember this story as it happened here in Florida. The ex husband had told the murderer that she was abusing the children. In an interview, he stated that as he hid and waited to ambush her, she never hurt those children. The ex husband was a horrible person. It was truly heartbreaking and chilling that those babies crawled all through the bloody crime scene.
Yet he still went in and shot then sliced a woman, with her kids in front of him, because someone asked him to do it for a stranger. He's no better.
It started in Boerne Texas. He was a horribly abusive man. She fled to Florida to get away from him. Sadly, she couldn't run far enough away.

Buddy, you are as guilty as the day is long!! Way too many coincidences for him not to be guilty, the fact that you hired a private detective to find her…speaks volumes.
So nice to see a classic episode.
I have always said! Once you are out of their control they no longer love the children. And if they do, it’s to keep a close eye on what you are doing. Thank you God for justice! Someone could of stopped and called it off! The horror of being killed in front of your children! 😢😢😢
That's got to be the worst way to go. Not knowing if your kids are next, and then knowing even if they aren't they're all going to be traumatized. That monster didn't love his kids.
Watching the husband deny with an absolute blank face. Is just incredible. I'm glad justice was finally done.
I watched, think maybe he really didn't, but once I saw the smirk behind his eyes, and not blinking, I was convinced.
I think that they got it right. Prayers to the victims children, & the rest of Sheila’s family. 🙏🏿
I love all these full _48 Hours_ episodes being uploaded (I'm not even a big TV viewer, but they're so addictive), but I'd really love to see some more from this era. It was great to see Dan Rather at the start and a younger Peter Van Sant (my favourite correspondent). Surely all the episodes must still exist in an archive.
The 911 call from the daughter is heart wrenching. Those poor children. And 4 wives for dear Alan? Hope those 3 slept with one eye open...O wait, he has OTHERS do the dirty work for him.

Why didn't anyone get the death penalty in this case? Florida is a death penalty state.
Bribery ?
In order to extradite the actual shooter from where he fled to Mexico, Florida had to agree to take the death penalty off the table. The others did plea agreements to testify about what they knew to avoid it.
The reporter, peter, is wrong abt danny being THE reason Sheila is dead. If Danny had told blackthorn no, blackthorn would have found someone else to do the killing….
You know it's bad when your own daughter won't call you dad but your own name.
Great reporting 48 hours. I remembered this case and had thought of it. Thank you for bringing it full circle.
It's so sad that Shelia's ex husband Alan Blackmore didn't let her go live her life in happiness and peace. Prayers 🙏😢 for her family and friends.

@@robs1873He died in 2014 in prison.
The pain and cruelty inflicted on others for money, worthless money...how incredibly sad for those 6 children, loving husband and family
Just like how Shauna Gardner did to her children by hitman to killing their father in front of their half sister
Yup, caught that, too.
41:22 Period
"There is no evidence that I have any involvement in this whatsoever" he says... (translation: he planned it very carefully and thought he had gotten away with it.) What an evil man or should I say monster.
No evidence? The sheer arrogance in thinking just because you set up an alibi and are playing golf 1000 miles away means you ignore Rocha being the critical link between the actual killer! Hubris.

Fabulous Mum, fabulous woman. Some Justice served Sheila. RIP.
So relieved there was finally justice. Sheila's family, oh my goodness 😢💔
Well after the outcome of this story it makes perfect sense why she wanted to get those kids far away from that man, the so called “father”
He gave up custody
@@molliemae6855
He must have experienced this as losing, and as being humiliated?
I don't think Alen cared about his kids at all he just cared about controlling Sheila. The report even said he never once called and checked on his two children after their mother was murdered to make sure they were okay. If he couldn't control her he wanted her dead.
With all the money, power, prestige Alan was not happy, could not be happy because he was blinded by hate. What a waste of life.
Well done, 48hrs. Thank you for posting this. I am grateful for the Justice at the end. 🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸
