    is that a versa helm , before the versa helm became marketed as the versa helm? they should have marketed it better , seems like they beat balance to it?

    dingi location does not seem smart in rough seas.

      I regret setting foot on every monohull I've ever been on or owned with the exception of the Sabot I learned to sail on when I was 7. You just can't take a monohull seriously after ripping along at 20 knots on a trimaran or cruising on a cat when you can literally dance with 15 of your best new friends in the cockpit. Not to mention how rolly a mono is at anchor or how deep their draft is so you can't even get into the choicest of anchorages or river bars.

      He didn't demonstrate the third position, which is completely inboard in front of the cabin door. The newest versahelm yachts such as the Outremer 55 are tri-position.

      Convert this from French to English: www.boatindustry.fr/article/26702/catamarans-alibi-liquidation-judiciaire
      Real shame! There is nothing really like it on the market. Maybe a Schionning G-Force but they have all the performance without the nice production boat fitouts.

    wow what a fresh design looks more open than most cats and still a nice slippery design.. why there are so many negative comments one wonders I think its always good to push new designs forward and not to stand on formality.

    nice ideas, but the salon, and hulls, for a cat, too small. Sail with this in the southern oceans, and you're gonna hate it. There should be one helm station inside, and one outside.

    • @pigmyable
      @pigmyable 4 роки тому

      There is more than adequate space in the hulls but definitely not a huge amount of spare space. You need to tell the crew to leave the deck chairs at home.

    Don't know why all these boats never want to divulge the price? Why can they not say "From $xxx,xxx" It just means us dreamers can figure if this boat is a dream or within reality!

    Looks like a simple and clean design with a bit of flair. I wonder what the price and build quality is like. If he is sourcing internal fittings from Asia I would have my doubts. It looks like it is fast, enjoyable sailing.

    • @makanimike
      @makanimike 7 років тому

      well, the price is easily determined. Their website offers a tool that allows you to mix and match the different options and gives you the final price istantaneously.

    • @thomaselliott573
      @thomaselliott573 7 років тому

      There is no pricing on their website but it does give a lot more information. These are a very attractive vessel. There is a very well spec'd new pre owned one available for about 1.2 million euro.

    • @makanimike
      @makanimike 7 років тому +1

      EUR 1.2M is the starting price for a brand new boat. I think you missed the page where you can build your boat: www.alibi-catamarans.com/spec/

    This boat is just crammed full of things where you think "why has no-one ever done that before?". It's a really clever design and looks way bigger and more comfortable than a (more or less) racer has any right to.

    Was sailing on one recently - owner moved the dinghy onto the longeron, works perfectly. This 11 year old boat is simply awesome, here is a video in action: ua-cam.com/video/YoDqZQwmQuA/v-deo.html

    Watching this video in 2021 I think that's really too bad Alibi dos not exist anymore! The boat itself is super great. The interior design style is really refreshing. Not to mention the canting helm system copied ten years after by Balance! The 54 and 65 are great performance cats. Actually, except the dinghy system design which was pretty too bad, I really like this performant cat. On another hand, still don't understand why Alibis were built in Thailand! Along with the complicated dinghy system , that's their second big mistake. Regeneration systems are more reliable those days. I really think Loic Goepfert should have a second chance! An Alibi 65 with a standard carbon cross in the front and a regular cat dinghy system at the stern, this would be my perfect performance cat in 2021!

    The comments on the tender launching position are laughable. Or do those who wrote them believe the builders didn‘t think about rough seas and the possibility of the thing being ripped off the boat 😂😂😂

    Waiting for another Peter Johnstone to produce a Cat with Swath design concepts that will hang at 20 knots......bring it....

    • @Sugarsail1
      @Sugarsail1 6 років тому +2

      SWATHs are are terrible idea for a sailing yacht. A swath's immersion rate goes down dramatically with depth and thus it's righting moment diminishes with heel, which is exactly opposite what you want with a sailing catamaran. How about getting a Schionning Gforce for 1/2 the price of anything Johnstone ever hyped and it'll sail as well or better?

    If you cruise on a Cat, why not play on one.? Look into Expandacraft, a modular watercraft that stores in small spaces and converts into all sorts of different craft. Oh, and we ship all over the world.

    What I don't get is how, with "all your experiences", you cannot see the obvious design flaws... you just tack about 2 or 3 things that impress you (and you don't need much to be impressed) but you never mention the important stuff... and you mention how great they are building yachts in Thailand? As much as I love Thai people, building yachts is not their forte... just look at the floor you are walking on.. Do you sell the dam thing? do you get a commission, or are you reviewing it? And I don't even mention how you can make such a depressing video about a yacht... cheer up mate!

    I am sorry but that doesn't look or sound like good quality. It looks plasticky and cheap, the woods are all cheap veneers like you would find in IKEA.
    It's not often I disagree with oyu but that doesn't look that nice at all.

    • @Sugarsail1
      @Sugarsail1 6 років тому +6

      Performance boats use veneers over sandwich core to save considerably on weight and keep the speed up. Production boats that use solid ply or solid wood interior inserts are heavy and painfully slow.
