    Nice! Very excited to see more entrants in the performance cruiser segment. Just hope someone builds something with that much attention to weight/performance in the low 40' range.

    Finally a decent helm with some coverage, you mention the helm area could be closed off, do you have a link of one covered? Great post, thanks.

    Toby committed an oops when he stated the vertical winch in the aft center of the cockpit is for jib and main sheets, etc., as it is actually for the halyards. An interesting boat, this one. I love those helm positions too, best yet on a cruising cat IMO.

    • @SeawindCatamarans
      @SeawindCatamarans 6 років тому +1

      In fact - it does handle the jib sheets too! So I think he's right - he just meant to say that the main sheets were on either side of it.

    Great review again Toby, I guess you have to sacrifice cabin space for speed! Three smallish cabins means not really meant to be chartered! Only for about a $1 million?

    what about the propeller protection when grounding is there a skeg or something ? narrow bodies and sharp entries ok for speed but are they not allowing more pitching reducing comfort ? i understood you cannot combine speed and comfort. ? independant seatrials and experience from users will soon reveal more lets hope for a positive evaluation that would be great achievement.

    Nice enough boat but, not really sure if I like the design, Is it possible to get a 1600 with a 1260 design plan?

    a good review but cannot say I am overly impressed by the new 1600. If you had not said it was a Seawind I would have never have guessed. Lots of compromises and lacks so many functional features that really set the old 10 and 12 meter versions apart from the competition. This boat at 16 meters gives the impression it is smaller than the 12 meter.

    Don't care for the look or layout above or below deck.. but be more performance orientated that might be why..

  • @FXPL9277
    @FXPL9277 5 років тому

    What an odd design. OK, it is meant for performance, but it appears strange to sail, with winches and cables in complicated places. Cabins equivalent to the ones of a 40 feet cat. Two helm stations aren't needed in a cat. The front deck has no use, and there's not even a mat on the fly...

  • @louseckler3016

    very similar to the Privilege 585

  • @brokerhc
    @brokerhc 5 років тому +1

    Very unprotected helm stations for a bluewater cat. Ugly nav station that looks like an antique office desk. Why the designer didn't just put a center helm station with a huge glass hatch on the roof of the cockpit to monitor the mainsail and another helm station in place of the ugly nav station for night watches? This boat does not heel upwind.

    This is merely an aesthetic criticism but I do not like blond wood cabinetry in a yacht. It looks cheap, like contractor grade, Motel 6 construction. Granted, the wood work is probably finely done, but it still looks cheap, like you paid a $million for the Chevy instead of getting the Cadillac.

      Outremer is the comparison, here. Labor rights are a concern with outsourcing to cheap labor, as well as the principle - I don't want to reward a company for searching for the cheapest possible labor in the world. Race to the bottom.

    • @MrRugbylane
      @MrRugbylane 6 років тому +8

      The thing is, as more work is sent to these areas, there is an inevitable evening out of wages over time. If Vietnam is where its deemed to be cheapest at the moment - come back in ten years and find a country awash with skilled tradesmen demanding increased wages.

    • @RD-kq3ml
      @RD-kq3ml 6 років тому +2

      Here in SEA, EA, Oceania, and the South Pacific we very much prefer Vietnamese, SA, Australian, and Taiwanese built boats than the French ones. Not all is cheapest=low quality. FYI, only the mainland chinese does that. One french guy working on a boat yard in France have wages equal to 3-5 Taiwanese guys even though the workmanship can be equally high. But yeah, as someone above mentioned..opinions vary. Same thing what they've said about the HH cats, but at the end of the day, the people who saw the boat in person tells that the built quality stands for itself.

    • @berg8970
      @berg8970 6 років тому +2

      @@MrRugbylane Yes then come back in 11 years to find the corporations have moved to the next cheap labor hot spot. This is a wage race to the bottom for everyone, not a good thing in my opinion.

  • @thomaselliott573

    Very basic and it better be cheap because that is what it looks like. Great idea having inaccessible halyards.

    I cannot think of anything I like about this boat. Just as porsche shouldn't design yachts...mono hull companies shouldn't create multi hulls.
    Edit have yet to see Toby do a new gunboat. He always seems to have disliked them though it seems (except for the 55). Jealousy is a hell of a drug, the limeys have.
