Where India’s Top Brass Get Their Instruments
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 лип 2017
- No Indian celebration is complete without a brass band. In the country of 1.3 billion people, there are at least 700,000 villages. And each village generally has two or three brass bands. But where do all of the trumpets, trombones and tubas come from? It turns out that 90 percent of the country’s brass bands get their instruments from one street-Jali Kothi Lane-in the city of Meerut. Along this quaint alley, you'll find around 100 instrument makers. One of the most renowned is Nadir Ali and Company, a fourth generation instrument maker whose drums, cornets and trumpets have been setting international standards for quality since 1885.

"We follow a system of quality control"
*A really old man looks through a pipe*
Anuj Nagpal quality controlled 👍
nailed it
you are underestimating the power of craftsmanship lol
He's a craftsman, he probably has good eyesight
Then you see a guy simply throwing a part of an instrument away
1:12 Your editor made a horrible mistake....
You showed the following images: Trumpet, Pocket Trumpet, Cornet, Euphonium.
NOT Trumpet, Cornet, Euphonium, Tuba.
that's not a euphonium but a cornet
@@Brenglezote thats not a freaking flugel horn
Mr. Trent Hamilton seriously needs to review a brass instrument from the Nadir Ali company!!
Please no.
Yes, but who else got here FROM Trent Hamilton?
You say quality control right after some guy tossed a part to the table
"You see, instrument making is an art." 'clink'
Cáca Milis sa Seomra Spraoi it doesn't break but it dents if you toss it hard enough
Cáca Milis sa Seomra Spraoi Yes, but for anyone that knows anything about taking care of a brass instrument, you don't throw the parts around like that because that could cause damage.
I bet one of those got dented
Could've been throwing it in a pile of scraped peices because it wasnt good enough maybe? Idk
*gets born in a village with no band present* I guess I was never born.
Maybe it is a thing in western UP remember, India is a land of 1.3 billion people with diverse cultural backgrounds, so something that is very common place in one area, would be completely foreign in another.
I was born in a village in Southern India and didn't have a band perform. I have been to funerals in India, and have never seen a brass band perform, and I have been to multiple weddings, all of which had a mix or percussion, strings, and piano. Never even once have I seen a village with its own band. That guy was completely bullshitting us at the beginning...
@@meownira2066 who you are.. come to tamilnadu and Kerala.. we will show u
"Instrument making is an art"
Throws the instrument piece away
I spent most of the time reading the subtitles until I realized I understand fluent English
lol me too
Subtitles are just something like that. Lol
*sigh*
That "cornet" is a pocket trumpet, and that "euphonium" is a cornet. A for effort........I guess
The "Tuba" looks kinda small which leads me to believe it's actually a Euphonium, but I'm not sure.
Little Jon it was probably a mistake on the editors part
Little Jon I was literally thinking to myself, "I know nothing about musical instruments. But I bet they fucked up labeling an instrument." So many often do.
Little Jon I think it was the editor, because their website is a little more correct. nadiralico.com
yeah they made a mistake
correct. a tuba is way bigger.
its trumpet, pocket trumpet, cornet, euphonium
he’s like “we are the best” and he claims instruments are everywhere, I didn’t even know this company existed until this video....
Please come to India and you will notice only nadir Ali company instruments are filled allover India...
My father was born in Jali Kothi Meerut and migrated to Pakistan in 1947. I still have very close relatives living in Jali Kothi but I have no trace of them. I visited the city in 1990. You refreshed my memories, Thank you for showing my father's janam bhoomi.
the way his fingers are placed on the euphonium valves :^(
I know... and i don't even play a brass instrument to know that they should be using their finger tips.
They are poor as fuck and not much apprection for the music as an art form it's a way to fill their belly.
Also they play for 7hours straight sometimes so hard to follow the etiwuites and ruels
1:13 - that's a pocket cornet. the one that followed isn't a Euphonium but a cornet. The Euphonium is shaped like the Tuba. But smaller. It plays mellow part.
I can't possibly take this company seriously until they make a truly fine French horn. And I want the workers to use their feet like that one guy with the drum rim. Then maybe…
It's rather sad to know that India's most relied company have stopped their manufacturing of export quality products. All that's left now is old stock.
"Like Trumpets *shows trumpet*
"Cornets *shows pocket trumpet*
"Euphonium *shows actual cornet*
"Tuba *shows euphonium or maybe Eb Tuba*
Awesome production. Keep going!
The figure one has heard for the number of villages in India is 664,369 villages. I wonder if each village really has more than one band as villages seems to share their bands with a number of neighbouring villages. The idea that the first band in India was started in 1900 is debatable, as there have been many in Goa much before that...
Having played multiple brass instruments for well over a decade, this guy is waaay overselling the quality of his instruments.
Frost • ikr
Compared to the rest of the instruments made in India they are better
Bro the misidentification of instruments is astounding.
sometimes i put this on my smartv and i think its a tv channel, lol
Prithvi Raj youre calling others retarded when you obviously look like you needed help spelling it out with those spaces. Also what's wrong with somebody using technology you look like you can't afford.
Prithvi Raj ??
what does he mean i put this on my tv? tf nigga everybody watches it on big screen when phone/notebook is not around.
Prithvi Raj his point is not that he puts it on tv, it's that he pretends as if it's a tv channel, this is where sir you've failed at using enough neurological pathways.
i know that he meant it there. he should not have added i see this on TV. as it was not fucking necessary. these days people watch tv shows on notebook and phones too.
Imagine playing a valve trombone
1:12 literally 4 of those 5 instruments are wrong lmao
I'm Hispanic and amazed on how similar it sounds to Mexican Banda I think I'm going to listen to Indian band too listen too more similarities
LFDS94 nice
LFDS94 *to
All browns think alike
sathvik reddy Apperantly not on school exams.
@Sir Underbridge funny considering the average child per Indian family is just 2
What about the french horn?
they probably don't have enough technology to make slide or rotters
Music is the elixir of life.
I love the thoughts and value they hold for music. Truly inspiring!
In Norway, towns with like 50-60 thousand people has atleast 5 bands
Music IS the elixir of life!
Wtf. The instruments at 1:13 and 1:14 are not what the video says. At 1:13 they have a picture of a pocket trumpet. At 1:14, they have a cornet, not an Euphonium. How tf do you mess up an Euph with a Cornet?
I love it!!!
Words of wisdom
I love this channel, where do you find these amazing stories?

I play grade 6 cornet 😊
10/10 euphonium.
Good to know there is still nobody that knows what a euphonium is.
Great generation
This is definitely...One Great Big Ginormous Story...
Good video and very interesting, but its too bad they mixed up the instrument names.
Wow...
**Sees valve trombone**
*****_TRIGGERED_*****
trombone players relate
So, they make, in all actuality,
Trumpets.
Pocket Trumpets, Obviously is not a cornet.
Euphonium, Which is actually a cornet.
Tuba, which is actually a Euphonium.
you gys miss labeled the instruments at 1:13
Just ran a cross this channel and like the variety of subjects here. It's too bad that all the videos are so short though. Guess that's the format though. Seems like a waste to do all that work and only put out two or three minutes worth of video.
so cornets are pocket trumpets and euphoniums are cornets and tubas are euphoniums? makes sense 1:10
I love it
I actually want a trumpet in well a euphonium which is a tuba from that company!
(Update) I am getting a trumpet on Wednesday! I am excited to try it!
(Update 2) I got it and I'm failing very badly 😌
How did you get your hands on one of those? I couldn't figure out how to import their instruments ro America.
everyday instruments: car horns
Did I just see a valve trombone?
Huhwhat you just seen a mistake whoever made it needs to apologise
At 1:13 that looks more like a pocket trumpet... A cornet is smaller than a regular trumpet, but I don’t think it’s that small.
1000 degree trumpet vs drum
"Music is the elixir of life" :)
Do the Mexico one 🎺🎷🎶🎵🎶🇲🇽
Is that a trombone with valves?
The "cornet" they showed was a pocket trumpet, and the "euphonium" was a cornet SMH Great Big Story 🤦
I was wondering why this had so little views. I've never been this early
“Cornet” shows pocket trumpet “euphonium” shows cornet lol
Aw3some
That wasn't a cornet, it was a pocket Bb trumpet
Is it just me or does the thumbnail look like a guy taking a hit from a bong
Cousin Nicky That's just you.
P99AT eh Idk it looks like it to me but yeah I see how I doesn't look like it
nadir Ali in best ccc
How much is the set kit
W2C rings from thumbnail
i'm not sure the working conditions are safe
This is kinda standard actually. I’ve been making my own parts for my horns for a year now, and I’ve learned that if you have common sense (don’t touch the bell you literally just heated with a torch with your bare hands) you’ll have a lot of fun.
Are saxophones popular anymore
My families village had and still has no band.. I guess we were one of the odd ones 😂
Interesting...
Nadir Ali probably have some of the worst brass instruments I've seen and had the chance to play on. It felt like it was from the 1880's when I saw one a year or two ago.
dk is coolguy Well I mean you can't blame them, right? Some instruments are perfect because they are factory made. This one is not, so it may be abit bad. But yes, it is quite bad
Hey, at least they haven't changed since they were founded. XD
They are bad I have a euphonium that broke in a year smh never again I will replace it with a Jupiter
Trent Hamilton would like to know your location
Can u please please put a water key and tune your 22 inch sousaphones
Where's the tuba???
Instant like for the pun in the title
1:13 that’s not an euphonium that’s a cornet.
:"( a lot of talented world class brass players don't get an opportunity on world stages or symphony orchestra. They usually end up in baarat party getting barely minimum wages.
"Cornet" "Euphonium"
Valve trombone!
where's Faulad Band though
Valved Trombones I can see the work ethic of this company
what he said is only 50% true
Meerut guys hit likes .....
Who else her doing homework during quarantine 🎺
Valve trombone?
These bands are immensely common in India, but the men who play them (women don't) come from the lower castes and a significantly marginalised poor economic strata in society. To play in other's weddings is unrewarding, to snake their way through different families's joys yet never becoming a part of it as well as travelling with the groom through any part of the city/town/village is something that is seen with condescension and even distate by the upper classes.
Anidrita Saikia wtf........You just have to play the caste card everywhere ....Get a life those people are earning there bread and you have to bring the caste angle here .
Gourav Taparia well there certainly is an angle to this that can't be ignored.. the players of instruments are part of story.
band is life
They called the euphonium and the tuba the wrong thing
Theres no cancer without a band
at 1:13 that is a pocket trumpet and at 1:14 that is a cornet not a euphonium...
That cornet was a pocket trumpet and that euphonium was a cornet. smh
a valve trombone?
Did this dude just call a euphonium a tuba?
they're different instrument
Just a little bit similar to philippines
The thumbnail looks like chance the rapper
How much in best trumpet prize
Sanjay Parihar if you want the best, they’ll start anywhere from $2,000 to 3,500 and can go upwards of 7,000
I live in MEERUT and wasn't aware of this .... this is wowowowow😍
"Top brass" lol I was thinking of something else.
As a trumpet player, i approve
These are horrendous “instruments”
0 band in my village
I forgot how to play the trumpet:(
you blow air in to the hole.
Ya gotta blow and finger yhe trumpet
this is soo true but when you stand right next to them your ears will bleed like so loud
sorry if my english is wrong
anshika yadav feeling is mutual
"Quality Control" Using feet to handle the materials, throwing parts across to a table, and mislabeling instruments.
That Euphonium wasn't a euphonium, that cornet, looked like it was squashed to shite, and the tuba looked to be much more the size of a baritone-horn. Also, the band they used sounded AWFUL. Music teacher out. PEACE
Glade Ahonen the band....audience with us all the way...managed to shake them off at the bus station ... Lol
Are you serious? His English doesn't require subtitles.
it's the accent that can be hard to understand for some people...
