  • Carnival time in Trinidad and Tobago is possibly the best time to lime in a Pan Yard. There are over 100 steelbands in Trinidad and Tobago with each having a panyard and all are active as they prepare for the annual Steel Band Panorama competition held during the Carnival season. Going to lime in the steel band pan yard gives you a chance to hear the steel band prepare the song they will play in the competition and hang out with friends. Although the Carnival season may be the best time to hear steel pan music it is not the only time you can hear a steel orchestra practice. Whenever there is a steel pan music festival the major steel orchestras will have practice sessions and you are free to visit their pan yard to listen to the music from these steel drums.

Being able to experience the bands preparing and polishing their performances for competition in such pleasant and comfortable surroundings is one of the greatest joys of Carnival time. I was able to do just that last night at Despers, All Stars and Renegades' yards as they got ready for tonight's prelims.
All of that is well captured in the video for the less fortunate unable to take it in first hand.

Thank you. While I enjoy going to all pan yards, it is definitely a pleasure to go those that have upgraded their pan yards. Hopefully I will be able to produce at least two other videos that highlight steel band.

@@pointboy12 You're most welcome bro. Keep it up. Why don't you introduce it to schools to be used in their annual Carnival preparations?

The tuning of the pans were first derived in Trinidad and Tobago by the late Cyril Spree Simon.

Thanks for reminding me of my 2019 experience at Desperadoes and Invaders panyards. Groups came in mini buses...drinks in hand. The character voices did not fit the panyard vibe during the panyard journey...such dialogue better suited at the end ...saying something like...Now I cant wait to visit panyard as I leave Japan, UK... IF YOUR INTENT is to reach tourists

I am glad that I was able to bring back good memories. I appreciate your comments on the characters. I introduced characters into the video for several reasons. Firstly to add something different and hopefully funny to the video. I also wanted to show that visitors partake in all aspects of Trinidad Carnival. In addition I wanted to encourage both visitors and locals to visit pan yards. I appreciate your comments and indeed it has made me go and add to the end of a video that I am presently editing.

What happened to RENEGADES and DESPERS?

I could not show every steel band in the video, otherwise I would have had to go to Tobago to show Redemption and Buccooneers, go in the East to show Exodus and Supernovas, go back South for Fonclaire and Nightingales, go Central for Angel Harps. Therefore I selected some and used them in the video.
